This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Is there a reason that the 360 updates are so much quicker than those on PS3? I'm not trolling, I rarely pick up games on releases anymore and I'm just sitting here waiting for Madden 10 to update and I'm curious. And yes, I realize I'm way behind on my sports games.

360 title updates are capped at a certain size, IIRC.

GAF, remember those rewards people would get for Uncharted 3?

Any word on, how we will get them? Can I delete my UC3 Beta? But maybe not delete my UC3 Beta data, right?

If you can, please answer, I'm short on space on my PS3. Thank you

Nobody?

Ok this is a pretty stupid question but Ive read conflicting stories about what happens when using the ps3 data transfer utiltiy..

The hard drive on my 80gig ps3 phat is full, and initially I was just gonna upgrade the hd but now that theres an Uncharted 3 320gig slim bundle Im just gonna get that. My question is when using the data transfer utility from my old ps3 to my new one...will the new ps3 recognize the extra disk space of the 320 gig hard disk and not just only recognize the 80 gig hd from the old one? I know how ridiculous that sounds but I read a couple posts on youtube vids that claim that when using the data transfer utility the new system "thinks" it only has the disk space of the old ps3, which would obviously suck. Has anyone done this first hand and can confirm that the new ps3 DOES recognize the larger hard disk space after the data transfer?

It recognizes the full space - I transferred from an 80GB to 320GB earlier this year and it worked great.

Just really goddamn slow.

Awesome, just wanted to be sure before pulling the trigger on the new system. Thanks!

Can confirm...upgraded my 60GB to a 500GB hard drive back in the day. Worked beautifully.

Still have 300GB left! :)

So I recently ordered and received Star Wars on blu ray. I decided to pop in A New Hope and watch it in all its glory. Before doing so, however, I attempted to hook up my surround sound to my ps3. I had no problems getting the surround sound to work on the phat but now its not working. I'm using an optical cable. I actually got the Star Wars sound to come out of the speakers but I also got a constant loud background noise. Again, with the phat, I had no problems. So I watched the movie without surrounded sound. Anybody know how I go about getting it to work? I went to settings, sound, selected optical and then selected dolby 5.1.

I was playing Gears of War 3 yesterday, and my girlfriend pointed out that the game would be interesting if you got to see the game from the enemy's point of view. I explained to her that there is a Beast mode, where you play as the Locust in attempts to try to take down the COGs - but she stated she would want to see the whole story.

So it got me to thinking, what games have done this?

I remember the demo game on RPG Maker for the PS1 did this - you'd play the game as an enemy. Have there been others?

Half-Minute Hero does this, I believe. There was a Goldeneye game for PS2 that did it too, but it was done extremely poorly.

I moved to TW and wondering what is the best way to get R1 games? (NA - English)

Xbox 360 & PS3.

I looked at amazon it was like 35 bucks. Would it be cheaper to ship to a friend and pay him to use USPS (local place) to stick the game case in the box?

Can the Xbox 360 or PS3 play DVD-Rs? I have a few R2 movie DVDs that I'd like to watch but they're not region-compatible (or are they?), so I was considering ripping them to strip the region protection.

A third party is selling them on Amazon UK and I just bought one from here:

Play.com has them too.

A little pricey but still cheaper than it used to cost locally when it came out here.

I haven't exactly been looking over all the stores lately but last I checked it was out of stock everywhere I looked.

Bad photo, but I'm keepin' this baby sealed!

Help me, GAF. I intend to sell my Playstation Network account. It has a whole bunch of purchased games which I don't have any use for now that I don't have a PS3 anymore and I could really use the money. Thing is, is that even legal? If not really legal, but only "frowned upon", how does one go about doing this? Is there an online portal that lists all games you have purchased and the MSRP?

It's definitely illegal, but Sony will never know...

Anyways, you can go log into Qriocity.com to see your list of games and transaction history.

Anyone know why Nintendo decided on having multiple perspectives on characters and environments in the original Legend of Zelda? Same thing in LTTP but it's more obvious in the first one, imho.

Definitely against the terms of service. I don't think they'd have much of a case for legality.

However, they would have every legal right to ban that account if they found out.

Question for anyone with a Hori HX3-56 arcade stick for the 360 (AKA the one that was bundled with Tekken 6).

Would this wireless stick work on the PS3 or PC as well?

Thanks!

Mine works on PC with my wireless Xbox 360 adapter that I use to play with Xbox 360 controller on PC. I have a feeling the wireless for PS3 would be different though...

I too have a question:

Where might I find articles on AI in FPS games? I want to find somewhat up-to-date and innovative uses of AI in this genre of games in particular but I am unsure as to where to look. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

do most, if not all, ps3 games imported from japan come with english subtitles? also, is there a list of games from japan that do have subtitles?

what is the cheapest (but effective) way of getting my xbox360 hooked up wirelessly? I have no laptop or nearby pc to tether to, so I need a dongle/unit of some sort.

also, where are Xbox live codes cheapest?

any help is appreciated! :]

When Windows Update tells me it has an optional update for my video card, should I actually install it?
That's one way to update your drivers, although I would suggest getting it from the manufacturer's website.

Playing Torchlight.. is it always the same map layout with slightly different vegetation?

Been playing for a couple hours and it's already losing its shine...

There are several different levels. You'll find some change once you reach deeper in the dungeon. I personally thought the game was average, but what made it fun was finding new loot and leveling up my character's skills. The level design and the core combat mechanics aren't very exciting.

Spoilers:
Total number of floors in the main dungeon:
32 and then an infinity dungeon
Total number of dungeon layouts:
seven

Wasn't really sure where to ask this so I'm just going to post it here...

I only have a 60 GB hard drive for my 360 and it's been completely full for months now. I've basically been having to delete and manage stuff constantly whenever something new releases. I was considering taking my fairly large external HDD and using it as extra memory for my 360. I'm pretty sure this is possible at least. How would I go about doing such a thing? I'm under the impression that I would need to make separate partitions and format them correctly. How would I do that? What size would I want them to be? Would I only be able to do one per USB port, or could I make two partitions for the 360 and then just hook the HDD up normally and my 360 would be able to sort it out? Also, if I make these separate partitions for my 360, would it be safe to keep everything else on there with the rest of the space?

Sorry for the lengthy block of text, just wasn't really sure how to parse it down without being too vague. Hopefully someone can help!

Posting this here to be safe:

OK, in the BioShock demo thread it was recommended by the mod I ask my question here. I'm using the Asus G74SX-BBK7, I downloaded the BioShock demo off Steam, and despite my system playing Amnesia with all settings on High without any issues, the BioShock demo won't even get past the black screen after I exit the desktop upon boot-up; instead I have to ctrl+alt+delete and then force-quit the non-responding demo via task manager. I'm downloading the 280.26 driver at NVidia's site to see if it will help; it's what was recommended when I searched new drivers for the GTX560 graphics card. But the feature list doesn't seem to mention any compatability increases with BioShock... Just seems to add 3D to existing games. Any ideas in the meanwhile?

EDIT: When I tried running the driver it said it could not find a compatible graphics card...?

What's the difference between a port and a remake?

How I see it.

A remake is an old title built from scratch on another system some time later from the release of the original that shares little to no coding of the original.
Examples of a remake. Super Mario 64 DS, Mega Man The Wily Wars, Ocarina of Time 3D, Resident Evil for Gamecube aka REmake. A remake can do it's best to look and feel like the original so that you can't tell the difference or be drastically different, but is still built from scratch for a newer system.

A port is the old title moved to another console of lesser or greater quality at any point with the code either simply altered to fit the different hardware or emulated. A port can be enhanced for new controls, access to better graphical access, online, a new hat, and still be essentially the same game in it's skeleton.

Which is the best version of REmake? Archives on Wii or the original REmake on Gamecube?

The only difference is controls. If you want to play on Classic Controller or Nunchuck and Remote, get it on Wii. If you are fine with Gamecube controller, Gamecube obviously.

Absolutely no GCN controller support on the Wii version?

Silly me, didn't even look at my copy. You can use the Gamecube controller on Archive.

Also as a plus for Archive, one DVD rather then two mini-DVDs of the Gamecube. So no disc switching on Wii.

While playing Wii games sometimes the controller that is connected to the Wiimote gets "disconnected" (mostly the nunchuck) So my question is, is it the wiimote that's becoming faulty and it thinks the attachments are getting disconnected? i've been using the same Wiimote since launch btw.
