This video sold me on Ouendan

I kept reading how godly Ouendan for DS is, but I wasn't convinced, even after watching a couple of videos way back many months ago, but now a couple of days ago I saw this video on YouTube, and I was sold instantly!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7Vbw9ZICUM&search=Ouendan

Even though the camera is zoomed-in a bit too much, and there's watermarks all-over; but I really liked the song and I thought this one showed the "rythm" aspect of the game which I failed to notice in other videos.

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! there goes my hard earned money for an expensive import.

I want that so bad. But I haven't got a DS.

BTW why is there the display stuff of the camera in the video ?

Hell with that normal-level shit. I just made a video of that song on Cheer Girls mode. Doesn't look so hot (and I screw up a couple times) but you'll see the true power of Ouendan once YouTube gets it online...

That was the first Ossu! Tatakae! Ouendan! video I've seen. And I don't know what the hell was going on but I want in too!

The game is intriguing in both Elite Beat Agents and Ouendan form except I really don't care for pop music whether it's jpop or us pop.

If I get a chance I'll try out Elite Beat Agents when it's released.

Ouendan is the hardest ****ing rhythm game I've ever played. I can deal with keeping the rhythm, it's having to focus on clicking on the right spot, and anticipating where to click next that drives me nuts.

confirmed 2006 right? RIGHT!?!?
Elite Beat Agents, the US version, will be a completely different set of songs/scenarios, so it's pretty much a sequel. Buy both.

This is still one of the - if not THE one - best games on DS right now.

In all the videos I've seen of Ouendan, it seems like the stylus movements don't have much to do with the music -- the clicks aren't in time to the music or anything. Is this an accurate characterization of the gameplay, or is it just that the people playing it in the videos aren't very good at it? :)

The taps definitely go with the music, but sometimes you're tapping on off-beats, not directly with an instrument in the song. It works out very well. When there's a track to follow, once you tap, a ball appears and you follow the ball along the track. The game is easy to learn, easy to get addicted to, hard to put down, and hard to master (simply because the amount of taps in later songs are INSANE).

That's what I was wondering. He used an Olympic camera for that by the looks of it, and I'm sure the one I have doesn't do that by default on videos.

I dunno... I kinda think it's one of the easiest rhythm games personally. Not that it's easy, but anyone? can do well if they practice a little. It's still fun though.

I find Daigassou Band Brothers much more difficult with the button combination coordination. No matter how much I practice, I eventually hit a wall where I cannot really do much better.

Ah ... hmm :| . That makes sense, I guess, although it doesn't sound as fun to me as a game where you're really playing along with the song. Thanks for the info.

The guy playing in that video SUCKS!

Anyway yes, this IS the best game on DS. Buy it AND Elite Beat Agents. The other day I actually dreamed that I was playing Elite Beat Agents. I can assure everyone here that, based on what I saw, it is going to be completely awesome.

As hard as Cheer Mode was, it's not that bad after playing it through the 2nd time.
Once you've cleard RSG with Cheergirls, you never really forget how to play. I just picked it up again the other day, months since I last payed it, and I was able to remaster everything after just a try or two.

Now some Elite Beat Agent videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys7fNU7L4EM&search=elite beat agents
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRluX7VPN4I&search=elite beat agents

The first one actually has good sound, but isn't complete. The second one is complete, but has absymal sound. Fit them together and you get a good idea of the big picture.

Hmm that was the first video I ever watched of the game.
That doesn't even look like a game to me..drawing lines and tapping circles.

I'm not trying to be a trolling butthole but that looks really dumb. Then again I was into Bust a Move years ago and that's just completing a combo of button presses by the 4th beat.
But I think the stylus is blah and have never been interested in using the thing when I hopefully do get a DS.

:/

Fission Mailed.

A little hard to see, but there you have it. You can get a sense of Cheer Girls -- the circles are much smaller and only appear on screen for half the time.
I like the RSG Cheergirl S rank videos better. Here's one:

EDIT: This one is (slightly) better quality:

I'm just stating my initial impression. I loathe the pen. If you think what I said was being a trolling butthole, you haven't seen much here yet.

It has nothing on what you said the other day anyway:

Yeah, those are a million times better. That's what happens when you try. Also when you just do a replay after playing it through -- I was trying to show actual gameplay with the pen and all :(

^- :lol

I got this game after seeing GAFfers post how awesome it is, and I kept hearing about how awesome it was around the net.

Awesome story:

I busted my DS screen doing those damn wheel segments. But it's all good because I suckered the GameStop guy into taking my broken system without him knowing and giving me the full trade in value while snatching the new DS Lite. Long Live Ouendan!

Sarcasm detection for the lose? No need to get nasty over fission mailing.

PS. Thanks for taking that out of context! If you weren't trolling before, you surely are now. :D

You must be new to the internet. Sarcasm is very difficult to get across.

Anyway, Kobun's video had more to it, but I don't think tapping a screen and drawing lines is for me. Hope you like the game, Naked Snake.

Ok, I'm sold, can anyone recommend a good place to buy this game from? I'm sort of new to the whole import scene, as the only other game I've ever imported was Electroplankton.

Try ncsx.com. They've always worked well for me. And with that, I'm gone from this topic (don't want it to turn into a 5-page argument). go go go

Yet you (and most of this board) obviously knows what it refers to, and knew that the statement is inherently facetious, and yet still decided to dig up whatever dirt you could find on me in a lame attempt at trolling (the thinly veiled insults were a nice touch). Anyway, I bit your bait - congradulations, that's the last I have to say. Mission Complete?

http://play-asia.com or http://lik-sang.com are both highly recommended. Some people like http://ncsx.com as well, though I've never used them personally.

NCSX.com = Fast shipping to the US, high shipping prices.
Play-Asia.com = somewhat slower shipping, but lower shipping costs.
Lik-Sang = shipping can be abysmally slow sometimes, but is often shipped free

If I had money to throw around I'd use NCSX, but I usually go with Play-Asia

that is my 2nd favorite level, the 1st is Kokoro Odoru (pottery level)
i got only one 100 and the rest 300's on that level in cheerleader mode, i was so proud and pissed

How can you know the timing for the pulls?
They're pretty much the same speed. It's more about its size, shape, and whether you're supposed to be bouncing back and forth.

Yeah. I'm not that great, but that's not the kind of performance I'd use to show off to the world.

Well, it's a rhythm game, whether that appeals to you or not. The thing I like about Ouendan is that due to the touch screen, it gets to play like it has a really really nice extra controller. With some games you use a dance pad, or a set of keys, or a bongo, but with Ouendan your successive points of tapping could be anywhere. The path you have to follow could start anywhere and end anywhere. Lots of freedom in design.

Now if there were to be something like an arcade version of Ouendan, that could be really cool. Touch screen several feet on each side, that could potentially get you using both hands at once.

Seeing these makes me wish youtube was full of Band Brothers videos, while not as visually appealing, I'd love to see someone playing through the Gold Ticket mode. I can't for the life of me figure out how anyone could beat that.

It's too bad Jam with the Band never happened either, maybe if Elite Beat Agents does well it'll come over. I think they'd go well together.

Great avatar, it just won't be the same when people scream "ELITE BEAT AGENTS" (or whatever the name is)
That's when we either come up with something new or revert back to the Kobun Kat Dance.

Man, I just went back and set a new high score on that level because this thread has got me SO AMPED.

2,447,230.

My current total score is 43,480,890. Not especially high.

One thing weird about this game. I had seen others talk so great about it and I had seen many videos of it. None of those really hype me up a lot....

But man, after I get to play the game it's just so awesome esp. once you get to the hard level or above, you won't be able to put it down anymore. It's so addictive it should be considered as drug. BTW, hard difficulty(the third one from the bottom) is the one I found to have the best synchronization between the tap and the beat the most ( after reading this sentence, I realised how bad my english is). The cheer girl is hard mode on fire, basically.
