Thanks to Keit4 for informing me of the heartbreaking news (for me personally). Thursday has always been ahead of the curve in terms of musical complexity, depth and lyricism in that ever-dead sub genre we all love called "screamo".

Their final album "No Devolucion" is one of a kind and has been hailed by critics.

Here is their final message and farewwell tour dates. Im gonna try and get to the Philly show.

"Yup. Yesterday thrice, today Thursday. Crazy coincidence for two bands that have led such parallel and intersecting lives. We would’ve spaced our announcement out and given the dust a chance to settle but we are about to play a bunch of shows and we didn’t want anyone to miss the chance to see us one more time, so here it goes

If you’re reading this long version of our statement, you’ve probably had some interaction with Thursday. We’ve been a band for thirteen years. We’ve played an uncountable number of shows, ranging from living rooms to stadiums. We’ve talked to every Zine, blog, Daily, Weekly, Monthly periodical… We’ve talked to every College, Commercial and Public Radio Station and sometimes we just hung out on the street talking to strangers. Maybe we met you. Maybe we worked together somewhere. Maybe you saw us or heard us with friends. Whatever the case may be, we owe you thanks. You’ve allowed us to be a band for thirteen years, to travel the world, to make records, to meet all of the people we’ve grown to love. And to open for our idols, work with our heroes, employ our friends (the best crew around) and see our dreams made real.

This year, Thursday has had so much to celebrate: our new record, No Devolución, came out ten years, to the week, after the record that was to become our touchstone: Full Collapse. To have one record still being celebrated a decade after it’s release and another to be met with such critical acclaim was really more than we ever could’ve imagined. We just wanted to play basement shows in New Brunswick. It’s funny… That sounds like a well-worn line now but it’s absolutely the truth.

Well, if you’ve been touched by our music or our dedication or our embarrassingly out-of-fashion sincerity, then this is for you, friend: thank you for letting us make No Devolución. We hope you’ve heard it. We say “beg, borrow or steal… music is an idea… ideas are free” but we encourage you to support our fantastically sweet and hardworking label, Epitaph, by buying it if you can afford to.

Despite the fantastic year that the band has enjoyed, creatively, things haven’t been as easy for us on a personal level. Without diving into detail, it’s fair to say that this year has been an endless series of personal difficulties. We haven’t had any falling out and are all still close. I’m sure that we will continue to create, in some capacity, together. We’ve talked about turning Thursday into something else: a non-profit, a band that only records sporadically, a collection of other projects… Underneath it all, the personal circumstances involved make it impossible to continue Thursday in the spirit that has made it special. So, we stop. For now, at least.

We hope to see many of you at these last shows. They’ll be a lot of fun. We promise
."

Lots of love,
Geoff & Tom & Tucker & Steve & Andrew & Tim & Lukas
(Thursday)

Can't say I'm too upset about Thursday or Thrice. I haven't liked anything since War All The Time and Artist In The Ambulance.

This is the first time a band break up has hit me hard. Thankfully I've got tickets to see them on the 4th. They're my favorite band live and I'm going to miss seeing them. I'm just glad I have some of my rare Thursday swag still. Full Collapse autographed from the time I met them, a limited edition (only 30) shirt from the Full Collapse tour this year and the limited hand made edition of No Devolucion signed by the artist. Almost none of the bands I listen to would exist if it wasn't for Thursday.

While Thrice was sinking into sameness Thursday at least managed to make different (and good) stuff. Their split with Envy was the best thing they did after Full Colapse and I wish they had gone thru that path.

That said, hopefully other good stuff will come out of this departure (I don't like UN all that much though).

is Envy the Japanese grind-y kinda band? i loved their album

I honestly didn't know Thursday was still around. I still listen to War All The Time and Full Collapse on occasion.

You need to hear "No Devolucion". Check out the tracks "Fast to the End", 'A Gun in the First Act" and "Milimeter"

Oh yeah, man. I am a big proponent of giving old bands you liked in high school a listen today. If you approach them like a new band you've never heard before, you'll most likely be surprised. It's the harsh reality of music fandom. I found myself really enjoying the new Saves the Day record, because I approached it like it was a new band. (It is, really) If I would have been comparing it to the band I loved in high school, I'd be really disappointed. lol

If I had money to spend on shows, I'd go to the DC show for sure.

I agree, although I got into Thursday when I was 19 or 20 when Full Collapse released. I still listen to bands today that I listened to in HS though. For example, last night I was blasting Sponges "Rotting Pinata" album =D

I listened to my Green Jelly album the other day and it was an "Oh God why?" moment

Post-rock-ey hardcore :P but yes, that split was amazing. It definetely had a positive influence on Thursday's songs (comparing to 'A City by the Light Divided') that bleeded a bit onto 'Common Existance', but not as much as I wished for.

I think it's a good time to reminisce about Thursday and say Wind-Up is my personal best song.

And best Geoff Rickley apparition outside Thursday would be with This Day Forward.

Im listing a few favorites:

-Where The Circle Ends: spoken word over a soft ethereal guitar
-I Am The Killer: My first Thursday song. Aggressive and passionate
-You Were The Cancer: Everdings and Rules work on the bridge is exceptional to say the least
-Telegraph Avenue Kiss: I love the chorus and the lyrics. The awesome remix is on the "Kill The House Lights" album
-We Will Overcome: I love the guitar work, especially during the second verse leading up to the chorus.

geoff was in this day forward?

i never heard the split - i only ever heard the Envy LP "footsteps..."

new Saves the Day record, because I approached it like it was a new band. (It is, really)

none of the original members are still in it? through being cool was their jam for me back in the day.

The breakups hit me harder than I expected. It was just so sudden and I worked all day so I didnt really have time to soak it in. Now Im sitting at home staring at their entire catalogue, listening to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57PlcABnRLQ and sipping on some cuervo. They will be sorely missed by me. If Im like this for Thursday, Ill be a fucking wreck when bands like Pearl Jam are gone.

Have you even heard Beggars, Major/Minor or Alchemy Index? This comment makes no sense if you've heard any of those, and that's 6 years of albums. Even Vhiessu is a pretty experimental album. It's like the last album you heard by them was Artist in the Ambulance or something. o_O

To those going to see the farewell tour, definitely don't skip out on Zechs Marquise, one of the openers. Fantastic live band.

But that is exactly what I'm talking about haha I thought the Alchemy Index was a great album especially the Earth parth, but Beggars felt like a low key, more akin to Dustin solo project than Thrice itself, then comes Major/Minor that I'll be honest, I've only listened to it 2 times, which it isn't a departure from Beggars in quality or style.
But I guess I may be butthurt because they went to a direction I didn't like!

And Geoff was a guest vocal in Sunfalls and Watershine, which is amazing.

Well, okay, I can understand not liking Beggars or Major/Minor. The only thing I would really take issue with is calling it more of the same when it's clearly an entirely different musical direction.

Wow. This Day Forward is great.Im listening to the song Rickley guests on and Ive got goosebumps during his vocals on the bridge. I had never heard of them and I love post hardcore but really Ive only ever heard and focused on At the Drive In and Thursday. If any of you guys have an other suggestions lemme have it. I gotta fill in the void.

Oh, I was saying more of the same between their own (last) cds, not in the genre. They are amazing, crafty people, I just feel like they were not shining it on the past cds.

In Pieces
Hopesfall - start with the No wings to speak of
Cave In - start with Jupiter
Poison the Well - old stuff too

They are more in line with This Day Forward then Thursday though and but introductory to the genre.
If you are feeling brave, you could give Pianos Become the Teeth a try. Amazing band, and their two latest cds have a special place in my heart.

Really sucks. Piece of my teenage years just died along with them. What sucks even more is I got tickets to another show Friday (lights) here in Toronto and can't see them. I've seen them a dozen times in the last 10 years but would like to see them on this final tour. Rochester NY is probably the closest option so I think I'll drive down there for that.

What makes Pianos so good. Ill check them right now.

Getting "The Lack Long After"

They sound too sincere (aside great musicianship), I empathize with them in another level. And that only happens with a few bands/vocalists/songs.

Thursday. :(

Everytime I read your username, a car crashed in my head and some sinister keyboard started playing and a girl screamed.

Haven't listened to Thrice or Thursday since high school to be honest, but loved them back then. Still listen to Understanding in a car crash now and then.

Listen to "No Devolucion" man, trust me

IN FACT EVERYONE THAT VISITS THIS THREAD SHOULD GO LISTEN TO THAT ALBUM THIS INSTANT

Hahaha you rule :)

Can't say I'm a big underoath fan as I used to be when I joined GAF but I still got love for them.

Fuck, first Thrice and now this? Two of my favorite bands. At least they are making a stop in Pittsburgh. Damn :(

Thursday is a band I've grown up listening to most of my life. Waiting was great but when Full Collapse came out my sophomore year of high school it was a defining album for me and my friends. To this day the most memorable show I ever attended was when they toured with Thrice and Coheed in 2003.

I'm so glad I'll be in Rochester on the 4th, I wouldn't want to miss the chance to say goodbye.

I had no idea Thrice was no more.

Maybe Dustin can make another solo folk album. It was the shit.

Read their damn website, they're on hiatus from touring!

You made me worry for a second.

Never liked Thursday, or most of the relevant bands around them, but it's good that they went out on a high note.
