Tiger aquires Warthog - oh NOOOOO!

Sorry if old.

UK stock market-listed games developer Warthog is to be bought by US-based Tiger Telematics, owner of the Gizmondo mobile gaming console for almost 500,000 Tiger shares and $1.13m in cash - together worth $8.1m.

Tiger will acquire all of Warthog's operating subsidiaries, along with the group's debts, and Warthog's CEO, Ashley Hall, COO Steven Law and CFO Simon Elms, will become Tiger employees.

The completion of the sale was formally announced today, with the transaction bypassing shareholders in order to complete the deal as "rapidly as possible". Why the need to act so quickly? "Because the group has continued to face difficult trading conditions within the games development industry," the company said.

In the year to March 2004, Warthog lost over £9m on sales of £5.7m - almost all of it in the form of development advances - down "significantly" on the previous year.

Tiger is best-known as the owner of Gizmondo Europe, a subsidiary that this past Friday launched the Gizmondo console in Europe. The device needs to build up a library of quality titles, and the Warthog acquisition may be seen as a way of doing so. Warthog's team also has close ties with key games publishers and franchise owners.

Warthog itself was founded in 1997 by ex-Electronic Arts staffers. It employs 250 in offices in Manchester, the US and Sweden. To date, the company has focused on developing games on behalf of publishers such as EA, Warner and Universal. In particular it has worked on a number of key cross-media franchises, such as the Harry Potter games. ®

CRAP CRAP CRAP! They are already porting Richard Burns Rally to the Gizmodo but what does this mean for RBR2 on other platforms? The greatest rally game of all time cannot be constrained to a measly handheld!!!! SCi had a multi-game contract with Richard Burns. Does SCi still hold the license? What the fuck is going on????? *Pulling all hair out*

Xbox pad. And I dont have the game anymore, sold it months ago. I liked CMR 04 better.

Flatout (on Pro setting) handles more realisticly than RBR.

FYI:

RBR (Xbox): Shitty Shitty Shitty
RBR ( PC ) : Hot Hot Hot!!

As for this news, I hope this isn't the end of Warthog's trip into hardcore simulation, but somehow I think that hope is misplaced :(

Gek, played the rFactor MP test yet?

I havnt tried rFactor, how is it?

Yeah I keep hearing that the Xbox version of RBR was very weak.

No pro setting I can find on my PS2 version of Flatout. As is the physics are nice and fun but no where near as realistic as RBR.

Fun, & best ISI multiplayer yet* - so worth a go for sure, it's very very early but once you've set up your wheel/pedals properly, and turned off ALL the aids its a blast.

The server browser UI is still very ropey, but the ISI devs are getting quite vocal & involved over at RSC and listening to us :D

*although still haven't got GTR yet to compare, damned German only release :/

IIRC you select the handling setting when you create a new profile. Normal mode = You can drive with full gas and no fear of spinning....

RBR (atleast on Xbox) has VERY unrealistic braking. Its like braking on a perfectly smooth ice.

You mean if you apply too much pressure your wheels will lock under braking?

Just tried Proffesional in Flatout and I get a CMR handling feeling. Rally Trophey has more accurate physics than this.

It doesnt matter. Even if your wheels are locked, real rally car shouldnt slide on rough gravel like its on ice. It was way too slippery.

Stopping distance for a Subaru WRC car & pro performance tyres with locked wheels on rough gravel is roughly 200 yards @ 60mph (roughly double that of tarmac), it increases with speed so yes it can feel like braking on ice, especially if you're driving too fast (Common mistake in RBR).

Not sure about the Xbox version as I never had it long enough to find out, but in the PC version the braking distances under locked wheel conditions is just about perfect.

Yeah but their Gizmondo seems to be pushing DC quality from what I have seen. 400MHz and GeForce. Seems interesting so far.
