Tim Hortons is garbage

I read this article this morning in the paper about how Tim Horton's sales are slumping again, which is prompting them to make their shitty new rewards program even shittier.

We've attracted far more guests to our loyalty program far more quickly than we had planned, Cil told investors on a conference call on Monday.

Well what did you idiots expect? You're like the only fucking game in town, and you introduced a card that gives people a free item after 7 purchases. You didn't expect every single person who goes to grab one of the free cards?

Later this month, Tims Rewards will pivot to a points-based loyalty system. Customers will earn 10 points for every purchase, which they can eventually use to redeem free products.

The move is an attempt to extract more value from the program, which appears to be testing the patience of franchisees.

The Alliance of Canadian Franchisees, an independent group of Tims store owners, recently complained that the program hasn't provided any benefits despite the massive number of giveaways.

I wonder exactly what benefit they expected to see. Giving away products for free doesn't provide a corporation tangible benefit? They already had everyone in this dumb country by the balls, I don't quite know why they felt they had to put this new program in place, or understand why they thought giving away massive amounts of free things would improve numbers.

The new points-based format essentially preserves the previous one-in-eight giveaway structure, since 70 points is good for a free coffee, tea, premium doughnut or bagel. But customers can now accumulate more points to get larger menu items: for example, a premium breakfast sandwich is 220 points.

This doesn't sound all that different, I guess what they're hoping is that people just keep saving them and never redeeming them or something? Because as it is now you don't even have a choice to stack your freebees, you'll walk in and scan your card for something before finding out it was free - you have to keep track of when your card is "ready" for a free item, then only have it scanned when you want that item (so no accruing points until that's used either.)

Through the program, Tims will send targeted offers to members, in an attempt to convert a customer who buys only coffee into one who also buys breakfast sandwiches.

But to send those offers, Tims needs plan members to register online. Only 25 per cent of the current 7.5 million members have done that.

In April, members who haven't registered will be bumped to a worse program and only receive a reward after 12 purchases instead of seven.

Oh you don't want to sign up for data collection and targeted marketing? Ok no problem you'll just go in this "Preferred Customers B" line and need a few more purchases for those rewards! I hate this company so much you people have no idea.

Uh oh eh, I can hear the Canadian rage already.

Nobody seems to care, I don't understand people here. Nobody likes their coffee or their service, but everyone just keeps going. The competition costs more dollars and time so people don't make the effort to change. Although something has clearly putting a dent in their sales for a while, I wonder if people are just making coffee at home more now, I see a lot more of that personally.

I dunno, every time I'm in Toronto visiting my moms, Tim Hortons seems always busy.

We have em here in the state I live in and quite a few since Wendy's use to own them and Wendy's in from my city.

Coffee is their worst product, and the prices have been steadily climbing on everything they sell. I don't feel bad for them if they feel the squeeze.

Bro have you tried their farmer wrap? With the chipotle sauce? Crush one of those and I bet you'll change your tune.

No and zero interest honestly. I'm a simple man. I just want a chain that specializes in coffee and fucking donuts - that's it. Timmy's coffee is disgusting and their pastry quality gets worse every year.

There is a TH near my work and I have never been. Is it just drinks? Or do they serve lunch?

They have been shooting themselves in the foot by focusing on lunches and diner menus for years now, instead of delivering good coffee, pastries, and service. I read an article a few weeks ago detailing how all these new food options were hurting them, and make it more difficult for the staff who are only there for a few days a week to learn new procedures and so forth.

And it's just so hit or miss, a couple weeks ago, two people I work with went to a Timmys across the street from where I work at about 6 o'clock for dinner. Sorry, no soups, no sandwiches, no chili, they weren't able to order anything from the dinner menu. At dinner time.

That's the thing man, they're all always busy, people here are stupid. Every morning I drive by a Timmies and the entire area is packed to the gills with cars, the drive thru and parking lot, and inside people are waiting in lines out the fucking doors. For absolute trash tier coffee.

The Iced Capp is their best product and they pretty much have a monopoly in the columbus, ohio area.

Their service is fantastic. at least the store i go to every morning. the line moves fast and they are super nice. I have no complaints other than how expensive their toasted bagel with cream cheese is. $3.20 for that is ridiculous. should be $2 max.

Service blows where live, but I suppose that will vary at different locations and franchisees.

I stopped buying their bagels once I realized they were literally Dempster's bagels with Philadelphia cream cheese. They prepare them incorrectly too. The bagels come in two varieties - under-toasted or charred black. They put cold cream cheese right on that, so it doesn't spread well at all and is usually too thick.

Great Canadian Bagel is the shit. They make amazing bagels in house, and I think they make their own cream cheese too. All kinds of weird flavours and stuff. But I go for the poppy seed with plain cream cheese. They don't keep it ice cold, so when you get a bagel there, the cream cheese is just perfectly warm and creamy, puts Timmies to absolute shame.

Just give it a shot. I don't like coffee so I can't speak on that but that farmer wrap....

Sure some of the stuff is fine but I try to stay away on principle. The only thing I will go there for is chili sometimes when I need a quick meal, and I feel bad about it every time because I want to stop giving them money entirely but I'm weak and the Timmies is so close to my house so I'll stop on the way home from work sometimes.

I think every Canadian I know agrees with this now.

It's a damn shame because they used to really have it together but then started falling apart during the last decade.

For me it was over when the eggs in the breakfast meals at MCDonald's tasted like actual eggs and the eggs in the Tim Hortons counterpart tasted like chemically frozen manufactured crap.

They used to close shop very late too before so you could chill wiht you friends past mdinight. In recent years, after 11pm they kick you out.

Back when I lived in Ohio, I liked this maple pecan donut thing that they had, but other than that they were kind of meh. Coffee wasn't half bad. Dunkin's coffee is better, but Dunkin's donuts are frozen trash.

I miss Mister Donut's green tea donut offerings back from when I lived in Japan.

Truth! I used to always get sausage and egg on a english muffin until I tried this. Not anymore. And where I live Tim's is still top notch coffee. Although McDonald's is catching up.

They have chili? I may have to pop in today and check it all out. It's a new building so I assume the food and stuff will still be "good". I know quality tends to drop off in the area I am the longer the place is around.

Timmy ho's has been SHIT for years. They've gone downhill ever since they stopped making donuts on site and instead opt for frozen ones that are made in a centralized location. They also cheap out on the coffee so it tastes like water. Let's put it this way, Mcdonalds has better coffee and really stepped up their breakfast game.

The reason why people still go there is due to habit, especially in small towns in Canada.

"A simple man doesn't need donuts to enjoy his coffee. A simple man enjoys his coffee black and doesn't main Chun Li." (Cammy is better Psalm 99c)

Also, there is no other game in town for donuts, it's kind of insane. I've seen a couple Country Styles popping up in the past year, they have better donuts. Even if they weren't better I'd still go there for donuts just to support someone other than Timmies.

I can't comment on America or Canada but I love Horton's here in the Philippines. Their cafe latte's are good and I frickin love their donuts, best donuts here.

It really is awful. I tried the coffee a couple years ago and it tasted like dishwater. North Americans in general don't know good coffee.

So bad, our only Tim Horton's in the state closed after 3 months of operation.

Had one near close after 4 or 5 months of it opening. They built a brand new building for it also and then closed up shop. I tried it a couple times and liked it.

Then about a month later it became a dunkin donuts.

fuck Tim Hortons, they use to have great local bakers. that made fantastic donuts ..but they got greedy..the "new" flash fried donuts are about 1/2 to 2/3 original size for more money.
Man they use to have the best apple fritters :(
McDonalds upgraded their coffee and cup sizes, rewards program etc. I only go to timmy's if there isn't a Mac in the area for drive thru

But in general ya I make my own , grind fresh beans and brew for significantly savings :)

I don't drink coffee so I don't go there often. I had a streak of 5x in a row over 4 years where I went there to get whatever gimmick food item they were advertising heavily and they were sold out of them. They spend more on advertising and not enough on the product they are advertising. It just seems like a bait and switch. I always noped out of there because I wasn't going to fall for their bullshit. I recently went in the buy a box of donuts and they were terrible for the price. The cheap donuts they sell at walmart tasted better.

What type of car do you drive?

A Tim's every 4th blocked here. Coffee tastes like gutter water since they apparently switched coffee suppliers a years back. Shit doesnt even have a coffee smell anymore.

Mccafe if I dont brew my own now.

Never had Horton's but it's Canadian, eh?

Don't feels bad good guy because Starbucks is muddy junk here in the States but the dudes who look like lumberjacks like it.

Best coffee is Seattle's Best Mochalatte Chills from Cinabbon. Dat shit awesome.

Can't stand donuts at Timmy's anymore. If I want a quality donut I head to Country Style. Completely shits all over the crap Timmy's serves.

Yes its garbage. Even Starbucks is better than this bollocks

I think that SB has better beans, but they still can't make coffee for shit there. Every time I've gotten a pour over from there it was trash. They have great light roast beans though. The True North blend.

I take their beans sometimes and do the coffee myself at home. Better than Starbucks and better than Tim Fartons

Mista Sista Fista The Barista!

Not sure if they do where your at but before they got bought out they used to make the donuts in store. Those were damn good.

That whole chain was good until the buyout and they went downhill fast.

Chili in a bread bowl was fucking delicious.

Especially after that lunatic woman dropped a hot deuce and threw it at the staff.

That Tim Hortons is close by my place. A lot of junkies around at night. More than sure that chick wanted the key to the bathroom and they said no, probably assuming she was going to shoot up.
