AJUMP23

Parody of actual AJUMP23

Donald Trump's unprecedented political comeback culminated in his victory in the 2024 presidential election, marking a remarkable transformation from his controversial exit in 2021. After clearing the Republican field in one of the fastest contested primaries in history, Trump survived an assassination attempt and defeated both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, becoming the first Republican to win the popular vote in 20 years.
Key to Trump's victory was his ability to harness national discontent about the economy, immigration, and cultural issues. His campaign made crucial strategic decisions, including adopting a states' rights position on abortion and embracing mail-in voting, according to campaign aides. The campaign secured Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s endorsement and gained support from influential figures like Elon Musk, who contributed significantly to Trump's campaign.
Trump's second-term agenda is ambitious and controversial. He says he plans to immediately pardon January 6 rioters and implement aggressive immigration policies, including mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. He's willing to use military forces for this purpose, despite potential legal constraints, he says. His administration plans to build more detention centers and use economic leverage to force countries to accept deportees.
The incoming administration features a mix of loyalists and mainstream choices, including Pam Bondi as Attorney General, Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary, and Marco Rubio as Secretary of State. Trump has emphasized loyalty in his appointments and shows willingness to use executive orders if faced with congressional resistance.
On foreign policy, Trump plans to renegotiate international relationships, implement broad tariffs on imports, and seek quick resolutions to conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. He's indicated a possible tough stance on Iran and aims to expand the Abraham Accords.
Trump's domestic agenda includes dismantling parts of the federal bureaucracy through the DOGE commission, led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. He plans to reduce regulations and potentially cut significant numbers of federal workers. Trump aims to preserve the filibuster but shows readiness to use executive actions when faced with legislative obstacles.
Critics worry about Trump's expansive view of executive power and its potential impact on democratic institutions. His plans face potential resistance from Congress, the judiciary, and the federal bureaucracy. There are concerns about the economic impact of his policies, particularly regarding immigration and trade.
The success of Trump's second term will largely depend on his ability to deliver on campaign promises while navigating institutional constraints. His administration faces the challenge of implementing radical changes while maintaining public support and dealing with potential legal challenges. Trump acknowledges some limitations, particularly regarding economic issues like lowering prices, suggesting a potential gap between campaign promises and governing realities.
This second Trump presidency represents a critical moment in American history, with potential far-reaching implications for domestic policy, international relations, and democratic institutions. The extent of his success in implementing his agenda will likely shape American politics and society for years to come.

Hard to pick anyone else honestly.

He is a moron, but he got shot and struck a pose afterwards. That's worth it, not even the winning an election. It was a mere inch difference between 2nd term and exploded brain.

No surprise really, its almost tradition.

"Since the list began, every serving president of the United States has been a Man or Person of the Year at least once, with the exceptions of Calvin Coolidge (in office at the time of the first issue), Herbert Hoover (the subsequent president), and Gerald Ford (the only president never to have been elected to the office of president or vice president). Most were named Man or Person of the Year either the year they were elected or while they were in office; the only one to be given the title before being elected was Dwight D. Eisenhower, in 1944, as Supreme Commander of the Allied Invasion Force, eight years before his first election. He received the title again in 1959 while in office. Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first chosen US president and is the only person to have received the title three times, first as president-elect (1932) and later as the incumbent president (1934 and 1941)."

And Putin got it in 2007, Yasser Arafat, Ruholla Komeini, and even damned Adolph Hitler in 1938 and Stalin in 1939! Getting PotY is hardly an endorsement so much as just recognition of the influence.

It's like the old providence tales told by Native Americans when they tried to shoot George Washington.

Astrologers might consider it part of Pluto return and a fated unavoidable change of national fortune. First President and last.

Indeed. High-profile American politicians (particularly presidents) winning is extremely common.

FYI for everyone else, the text Jason quoted is from the wikipedia article on Time Person of the Year.

Now what would REALLY set people off is giving Trump a Nobel Peace Prize for "his potential" :p

Hypothetically, if he negotiates (or allows, guess it depends on how you view the US influence) a treaty where Russia gets a chunk of Ukraine and Israel expands their boundaries a bit but allows the Palestinians to start policing themselves again (or at least a muslim coalition does most of it), would that be world class peace brokering worthy of a NPP or would the MSM just call it being weak? The framing of these things is so politicized it's nauseating.

I still remember the day one of my friends texted me in June 2015 and told me that I had to watch Trump's speech. I had no idea what he was talking about. Didn't know he was considering running for president or that he had officially announced his candidacy. It took me weeks to finally watch it and I came away intrigued by his candidacy despite mostly hating him up to that point.

What's interesting is how he was viewed during the early days of the Republican primary. My wife and I visited her sister in NYC, and she worked for a very liberal tech company at the time. We had lunch with her and some of her coworkers and there was some lukewarm support for him but no one hated him... yet. It was mostly curiosity and a belief of "he's doing this as a publicity stunt."

Just crazy that he we are almost 10 years later and he has completely dominated the American political scene and MSM news cycle since that escalator ride.

Appeasement hasn't been popular since Chamberlain and through the lens of history seen as weak. But, if the Ukrainians hold onto Kursk it could lead to difficult negotiation that might get Russia to cede land back to Ukraine. Which wouldn't look like appeasement and could earn him that Peace Prize if it leads to fraternity.

It might also be contingent on his behavior with other nations. A constancy of promoting fraternity between nations.

Also, he only had about 1/3rd the campaign funds, and didnt scrape up any easy votes from low brow people who got swayed into George Clooney, Beyonce and Taylor Swift (and any other big wig celeb banging the drum) saying vote democrat.

Trump still won.

If you don't want to listen to your opponents, then these things happen. You lose support for the causes you care about. I'm no fan of the guy myself, but I'm actually more hopeful this time around. Unless we have another bio incident like these lab monkeys recently.

As for the time page, well, how could they not?

He got treated with no respect by Merkel government.

Trump warned Germany about being dependent on Russian resources. He warned Germany about not hitting Nato goals. They laughed at him--in public!

And then... Boom. War in Europe. Everything he said was right. What a shitshow.

If I were American, I would have voted for Trump. But since I'm German, I just hope he's not making life hard for me. Because things suck a lot here in EU already.

He also gets apex predator brownie points for acting like a president though he's not even it yet. He's going around the world meeting other presidents like he's in charge already while Biden/Harris have given up and disappeared. Those two are basically coasting the final few months doing zero.

That's a 180....

Fuel is already down. Like way down where I am. Haven't seen diesel less than petro in a while.
Cool, but that's a Biden thing. Trump doesn't take office till Jan 20th. Already, Canada has stated that if they receive a 25% Tariff they will stop providing energy to Michigan and Ohio.

Fuel is the least of my worries when groceries, electronics and other goods start skyrocketing. Do you fathom how many foods come from other countries? This is insanity. Do you think businesses will start paying us more to accommodate for all these tariffs? Most likely not.

Makes sense after all the craziness that was the last year. If Kamala Harris had won, it'd be her I'm sure.

I'm curious now how many people have been chosen as Time's Person of the Year multiple times.
