and if the word's first letter isn't A thats just lame for the way they wrote it then. I don't interpret that any other way that having a first letter of A.

Belfast said:Well, you need to think of it in a different way. There's nothing grammatically wrong with what they are saying. Its a puzzle for a reason and that reason being that because most people are going to immediately interpret it one way, the true meaning of the question is veiled. That way, it forces you to flex your mind a little bit and seek out other possibilities.
For everyone new to this, don't get too frustrated with the puzzles. This is supposed to be fun, too, but don't think you're behind just because you get stuck. Puzzledonkey is definitely a long-term thing and nobody is going to get through all of the puzzles in a day or two, or even a week. Well, the best of the best *might* be able to get through it in a week, but that doesn't concern 99% of the people who are going to be playing along. The best way to think of it is not really as a contest, but just a fun diversion that exercises your mind a little bit. There's no time limit on it or anything, but the whole project IS designed to provide some of the most challenging puzzles known to man.
That said, it still doesn't come close to the challenge that TimeHunt presented, that was just ungodly. A 3d crossword completely in LATIN with each cube being rotatable? TimeHunt was damn near impossible. I think I only ever solved one puzzle.
