Time to scour those shops for REZ

I'm a bit pissed that I sold a new copy of Rez on eBay right before it was rumored to come out Greatest Hits style, so that I could make at least a little mark-up before copies flooded the stores.

Now that it never went Greatest Hits, it goes for twice what I sold it at.

Oh well, I flipped what I got for it so that I could get R&C:UYA and play online back when there were actually people online to play with.

You don't know how lucky you Americans have it. I paid the equivalent of US$87 dollars here in Nz for Rez when it was brand new...on release day (recommended retail price).

Serves 'em right.

I did start to see used copies of Rez around me back before Christmas, I assume because people figured the GH was coming out.

Now that they traded theirs in and its not, they want it back.

Suckers.

I think this says a lot about the state of Sega right now. Here you have people paying upwards to $90 for a new copy of Rez because Sega refuses to re-issue it, and then the same company turns around and releases a game nobody wants (Virtua Quest) which moves a whopping 258 copies for PS2 last month.

Unreal.

I think you can make a contest out of this auction:

What will be the higher value?
A) The number of dollars the winner pays for the game
B) The number of minutes the winner plays the game

Do you think the buyer will even open it? :)

Why, is the winner retarded or Folder?

My REZ collection stands at:
DC promo JP
DC promo UK
DC full version JP
PS2 Trance Vibrator
PS2 preview code (groovy orange disc)
PS2 review code
PS2 full version JP
PS2 full version UK

So I guess it might have been me. But no, sadly not.

That's not really that ridiculous... Ridiculous is the fact that Gitaroo Man US, which was absolutely everywhere for $10 for about 2 years, sells regularly for $110+!

Current bid: US $83.00
(Approximately AU $105.09)

LOL

$100au = a new game in Australia, but the prices have been coming down to 80/90.

This bears repeating.

once it goes over $50-60, it starts to get ridiculous. SEGA should so have a web ordering page for the game (any game house when titles don't sell well through the retail channel should).

Shit man I saw that at Best Buy for so long but never made a move on it. Curses!!

I was mostly going off this statement by you and others from this thread you started...

REZ. It’s quite boring, nothing much happens. A stick man shoots stuff

...but hooray for having tons of shit for a game you find boring or, conversely, for misrepresenting how you feel about the game just to start shit.

I have unopened DC and PS2 (PS2 jap +eng) versions, the shirt from the introduction party at WIRE (SEGA + PS2 = Rez) cuz Rez was really the first PS2 game, the American V-neck t-shirt, the special edition ball T shirt that came with the super limited boxed set, another UNOPENED Box set with the t-shirt, trance vibrator, wristband, stickers, VIBRATING head set, and of course multiple open copies of the game in both Japanese and US.

I also got the team to sign a limited boxed set and sent it to JetJevons, it was the only copy of Rez signed by the whole development team, and it went up in flames when Jevons apartment burned down!! Only the t-shirt survived!! I wonder how much THAT would have gone for on Ebay!!

Here's an awesome pic of the shirts courtesy of jkooXL...

Holy crap. I should have cleaned out Best Buy when I got it for $10 years ago. One of the best purchases ever...I can't believe I was actually gonna pass it up too

Yeah I think I picked mine up for $15 Can. It was a new copy too.

Stuff like this makes up for all the money we've all wasted on games that sucked. :D

Just before Christmas I sold 5 new copies of Rez on eBay for only $60 each, I got them for $4 CND each too. Bought myself a nice MP3 player with the profits. :D

I think I'm the king of shameful self ownage when it comes to the Rez Re-release Rumors.

I tried unloading my sealed copy on eBay last year, and I had no luck with ridiculous mark up returns.

With my dire financial situation and gaming habit, I decided that if I couldn't eBay the damned thing for an arm and a leg; I'd just use it as trade-in credit.

What did I trade it in towards?

King of Fighters: Maximum CRAPact

Oh christ - that's probably The Worst Decision in my history of gaming.

Damn you OPM.

Damn you SNK.

Yes, it stings.

My only consolation is the open copy of Rez I have for my own library. :D

I suck at the whole buy / sit / sell collector mentality game.

I just hope things don't get so tight that I have to part with Radiant Silvergun. Although it's tight enough that Panzer Dragoon Saga is looking like potential eBay fodder. :X

Kind of crazy to see Gitaroo Man going for so much. It's well deserved inflation, and I still wish Koei would put U1 in a Dynasty Warriors game as a hidden character. Just for kicks.

I've never had regrets about selling a game. Sure you could sit on a game, in hopes that it will become one of those in-demand titles (that you STILL won't want to sell anyways!), but what's the point? If you don't see yourself playing the game ever again, why fret that you sold it? Sitting around hoping that games like Alien Hominid, P.N. 03 and Katamari Damarcy become ebay gems is silly to me. I had Panzer Dragoon Saga, loved playing it, beat the hell out of it, sold it for twice what I bought it for (which only equals 96 bucks). Do I wish that I sat on it longer so I could squeeze more money out of it? Nope. I don't see myself wanting to rebuy it again, eitherl

Brother? :P

Seriously though, I've got the same mentality. Maybe it comes from being a comic nerd in addition to a gamer, but I've got comics in my collection that were worth stupid amounts of money when every nerd in the country had a boner for that character, artist, writer at the time; but I kept them because I enjoyed them.

I just don't have the patience for that crap. And if I wanted to gamble on something that would gain market value, I'd invest in the stock market - not video games or funnybooks.

There's a collectors market for just about every damned thing under the sun, and I don't have the patience for it. Although if it can bring me some money down the road I'll exploit it. :P

I know of someone who bought KotOR AND Xenosaga over Rez. He didn't like either game, and now he wants Rez. :lol

Where the fuck were all you people when Rez was sitting in plentiful supply in the stores for so long? The game sat and didn't sell and now that stores liquidated stock, making the game rare, you all want it? :lol :lol

I have a Gitaroo Man but it's opened and played. It's still mint -- I wonder how much I can get for it. I don't have a PS2, but I bought it to play at friends' houses, so I don't get too much use out of it :(

This post reminds me of a friend/coworker who wrote into Gamer's Republic about the state of the NGP in the US when the system was clearanced at retail. i can see why people would not buy Rez, but it still hurts to see inspired and different games bomb in lieu of average at best "trash".

Actually it wasn't really sitting "plentiful" on store shelves at all. Sega America had little to no faith in the game, nor an understanding of it. The LIMITED marketing campaign was HORRIBLE, and the print run was extremely limited as well. The number I heard bandied around was close to 15,000 units. I am not sure they made another print after that.

SOA, please die a horrible death kthanksbye.

The game sat in many a store around where I live (SoCal). Copies of it could be found at almost every EB or Gamestop within a 50 mile radius. I also saw plenty of other stores where the game sat collecting dust (TRU, BB, CC and Frys). YMMV but if you really wanted the game back around when it was originally released (and even a while afterwards), you could find one with little effort.

Either you A) waited too long for the hopeful price drop (which never really occured) or B) you had no real interest in the game when it came out. But that's me speculating ;)

I didn't even know Rez existed when it first came out. I didn't really keep track of new releases back then. Now I want the game, but am not willing to pay ridiculous prices.

Before going to ebay, I suggest checking Gamestop's store availability locator. You can put in your zip code, and it tells you if the game is at any stores near you. I've gotten lucky quite a few times. (Gitaroo Man for $15!)

I remember it was one of the few games I got the day it came out. Friend had DC version and I loved it. Also bought the soundtrack for some ridiculous price, but got cool stickers! :D
