Tiny Tina's Wonderlands - Gameplay Reveal Trailer

IbizaPocholo

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

Embark on an epic adventure full of whimsy, wonder, and high-powered weaponry! Bullets, magic, and broadswords collide across this chaotic fantasy world brought to life by the unpredictable Tiny Tina.

Roll your own multiclass hero and loot, shoot, slash, and cast your way through outlandish monsters and loot-filled dungeons on a quest to stop the tyrannical Dragon Lord. Everyone's welcome, so join the party, throw on your adventuring boots, and be Chaotic Great!

Seems promising. A Borderlands game where you create your own character is something I've wanted for a while.

If there are a lot of classes you can select from that would be cool.

Cautiously optimistic.

"Tiny Tina's Wonderlands launches on March 25, 2022 on PC via the Epic Games Store exclusively at launch, and on other PC digital storefronts later in 2022." UGGGGGHHHHHH

Swing and a miss. 3 replies to this thread shows the hype level. Borderlands 2 is in my top 5 shooters of all time and this could not be a harder pass for me if it tried. I think they have completely mis-read the room. For me, Borderlands was a great shooter that had some zany guns and characters. Now it seems like it's all about being whacky and edgy and the great shooting is secondary.

Weren't try talking about how this spin-off was going to be "so different" compared to the Borderlands series? This looks no different at all aside from the whole "fantasy" aesthetic. There's even guns, and a lot of them apparently, lmao.

Sign me up. At this point you know if you're into more Borderlands or not, this sure isn't going to convert anyone, but I will for sure be putting a lot of hours into this game.

Borderlands 3 was hugely successful because people loved Borderlands 2 so much. However, Borderlands 3 ended up being a massive disappointment, one of the worst written games I have ever come across, it also was almost copy-and-paste from Borderlands 2 in terms of graphics and gameplay. It was a shameless unoriginal game. It went from being witty and clever in the second game to pure toilet humor cringe-fest.

This looks like the same shitty cringe-fest, and if you see the people they employ making the game, it's easy to see why it's struggling so much. They are letting amateur writers who have no experience writing humor do the game, it's bound to fail from day one, Gearbox aren't taking it serious enough.

Custom character with randomised melee weapons would have been such a good change for the series, its fun thinking about what kind of wild combinations of medevil weapons and weapon traits it would have generated. But this, just no. it's like they took the things I liked the least about the series and doubled down on it. I remember in the game (BL2?) you have to meet this annoying Tiny Tina then straight after it was some obese trucker woman and that's where I stopped playing, it tries so hard to be "weird" but just comes across as obnoxious and something i want to distance myself from before my blood boils into steam due to their annoying voices and one-liners.

So they took the same old gunplay that carried the series up until BL3 where they ran out of ideas, mixed it with the worst fucking character (and this is worst character in a game that already had Claptrap, so a high fucking bar) and well, that's about it right? they try to make this look like it's radically different but it's all just window dressing for the same shit they've been doing for a decade. maybe I'm not giving it a fair shake, but as far as first impressions go, it feels like they completely misread the room and their audience.

Huge BL fan but I never got around to playing BL3 because when it finally came out on Steam the hype had died for me.

This looks promising.

I can say, objectively, that you dodged an immense bullet there. The quality of the gameplay is debatable, and you'd probably have liked it because you're a huge BL fan.

But that writing. That story. You don't want any part of that. When BL humor goes wrong it's like a violent trainwreck and the train is full of puppies, dildos and razorblades.

Ya at this point I only play BL coop with my best friend so its really more about chatting, shooting and looting and less about listening to the plot and jokes etc.

Ill probably get around to play BL3 at some point.

Best game on the show for me. Borderlands with magic and melee combat. I'm looking forward to it, while i play my free games on EGS:messenger_grinning_squinting:

The worst part about the "humor" is it's totally nonstop. There's so much dialog and yet there's hardly a single line that isn't trying really hard to be funny.

It's like being surrounded by a bunch of 14 year olds making nonstop dick and vagina jokes and who just never shut the fuck up.

There's not even a single scene in the game that manages to be serious. Even when
Tannis is on the ship giving the eulogy for Maya
she starts making painfully unfunny jokes like 2 sentences in.

BL 3 and Doom Eternal literally are the best fps of this gen from a pure gunplay perspective, here's hoping Wonderlands will feel as good. That said im a tad disappointed to see some gun models from 3 in there

BL3 gunplay was great but the writing was fucking atrocious, and it had some of the absolute worst villains I've ever been exposed too. It improved a bit in the DLCs but still wasn't great. I wish they'd combine BL3 gameplay and BL2 writing quality into a single game but unfortunately I doubt it'll happen here. Maybe in BL4 when it inevitably happens.

In Tiny Tina's Wonderlands you can play as the Stabbomancer, the Brr Zerker and more. Get ready to use your weapons and magical powers to earn all that sweet, sweet loot. Learn more about both of these characters in this latest reveal trailer for the game. Get a glimpse of the Stabbomancers skills including the Ghost Blade, From the Shadows, and more. The Brr Zerker can use skills like Feral Surge, Dreadwind and more!

The "D&D" DLC for Borderlands 2 was fucking amazing.
But I have zero faith in SJW Borderlands.
I was a die-hard BL fan and couldn't care less about this.

P.S.
Butt Stallion is WAY overused and never really been fun.

You didn't miss much.
The gunplay is great, probably the best in the series, but I found the weapons to be the least interesting of the 3 games (no, TPS is a piece of shit that I refuse to acknowledge). And there are kinda... too many of them, and for me diluting the pool so much made the looting less interesting and making builds a chore. Collecting weapons just wasn't fun anymore. I played BL1 and BL2 for thousands of hours, but couldn't play another second after completing BL3.
But its greatest sin, what's really unforgivable and destroyed the franchise for me, is that the writing is SO BAD it's infuriating. I loved to death the characters, the humour and the writing of BL1 and BL2. BL3 is SJWish, amateurish, dumb, tryhard, idiotic and worst of all, it ruins estabilished characters. It's unforgivable.
BL went from absolute, unconditioned love to absolute contempt.

I'll check it out but I think sticking with guns for a D&D inspired game is a bad move.

Agreed. Borderlands in general has never been funny.

Hold up. Where's that Ryan Davis tweet. Here we go.

Huh..didnt see this tread back when it was first announced. Just finding out now.

Really loved Borderlands 1 and 2. Passed on 3 and have no interest in playing it. This looked good though..will keep an eye on it.

Also whoever is doing the music for the trailers is on point.

The soundtrack was great tho. Mcann, Kyd, etc.

I skipped 3 because of its EGS excusivity, I guess I'm skipping this too.

For what it's worth, the Tiny Tina DLC was the best BL2 DLC ever, and BL2 the best game in the series. So this will probably be a gem. Shame that I'll miss this one.

Love Borderlands, don't like Tina's character but the Dragon's Keep DLC for BL2 is the single best piece of Borderlands content ever released, this is an entire game built on and expanding on that idea, I'm hyped for it 👌.

It's EGS so if I pick it up it'll be when it releases on Steam at a discounted price. Probably in 2023. >_>

Same, I even liked the pre-sequel and "Tales from", but I only made it to the second planet in BL3 and I stopped playing. I might give it another try later but I hated everything about it, especially the streamer antagonists.
Too edgy for me, no charm at all.

Nah.
1 and 2 were amazing, and Anthony Burch is (was?) a great writer.

This is funny as fuck to me:

I recall BL1s writing/humor being mostly generic. It was far from annoying, just kinda there at times. The series didn't find it's true identity until BL2. And while I thought the story bits in BL2 were effective at times, I am not a fan of the dopey tongue-in-cheek internet humor that Burch brought to the table. Way too in your face and it was fucking constant. Like STFU PLEASE!

BL3 though?

To each his own, I guess.

This had me in tears:

Would much rather have the dopey tongue-in-cheek stuff than the absolutely soulless BL3.

I liked the vibe of Borderlands 1 though....had a much more "strangeness" to it and felt more "alone" sprinkled with ridiculous parts.
