Tips on beating Gill in Third Strike

I'm starting to get real tired of making to Gill without having to continue, and then having to continue 5 times in a row to beat the fucker (in cases of characters I don't know very well, 15 times, and my current record is 21 continues to beat him). I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips to beat him? I already figured that you should never jump at him, his clothesline is really his undoing, and figure out what move stops his resurrection QUICK.

Any other tips?

Somewhat related question. How do you invite someone to play a game with you on Live? I can easily add people to my friends list, but even when they're online the game only gives me the option to delete them instead of invite them. Am I missing a button or something?

Create a match for Friends Only. Press start, go to FRIENDS, find a friend, press A, invite.
 
Before he revives his energy, get close to him and hit him to stop the revival. I've used any move to stop it (fireball, punch, kick).

Oh shit. I wish I knew that earlier, hah. I've been always trying to quench his revival AFTER he starts reviving.
 
Win your first round before he has enough energy to revive. Try to beat him 2nd round, but it can be tough, just make sure he uses that super bar. 3rd round he is out of super so just rush him down again like 1st time around.
 
Ahhhh.... Third Strike Gill....

It took me a while to figure it out because in NG and 2I I turtled up on him to beat him (which will get you nowhere quick VS. his 3S incarnation).

For me the easiest thing to do is just go buck wild on him. I jump in on him all the time so long as he doesn't have a super bar charged. If he does, I sit back and wait for him to waste the super (which he typically will do eventually). I do the same thing if I'm close to beating him and he has enough energy to revive himself....give him time to waste it on something else. Try super jumping in on him.

Also when he jumps at you or does that flying double knee attack be sure to jump backwards quickly and meet him in the air with a roundhouse kick. You'll knock him out of the air every time.
 
I have a fucking hard time against him (difficulty at max) and i can parry chun li's SA2 in traininG!1111111111 ....

But yeah i gave up on trying to find a pattern or devising a rational method to beat him. Just knock the shit out of him.... I guess laying parry + medium kick+ lp dp is a good way.
 
Just be aggressive. He doesn't use anti-ait attacks too much, and just be prepared to air-parry if he does. The key is to stop his ressurection when/before it starts. Haven't played in awhile, but I think I remember some little barrier that pushes you and your attacks slightly away from him when he heals him self. Supers can break through it easy, though, and possibly some other attacks.

I think he uses tons of anti-air attacks against me, I try my best not to even jump against him. And I'm only on difficulty level 2 :(

I'm trying to beat the game with every character, but right now I'm good as Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Alex, Remy, and Oro. The shoto's and Alex I can usually get to Gill without losing.

PS I just play Oro because no one plays Oro, therefore most people online don't know how to handle him, so I usually win with him (even against people with great records).

My main problem is getting him down to resurrection though. Usually he gets me down low enough that the "Angel" finishing move will chip damage me to death. And everytime I try to trip him, he does this axe kick which puts his one foot JUST out of reach.
 
Beating Gill isn't a very big deal if you know how to exploit the AI. For example I got almost got a double Perfect on him with my Dudley. All I did was get him in the corner, then jump in with roundhouse, then combo (forward, roundhouse, fierce). Ad nauseum :lol

This was on the hardest difficulty too.

While sorta OT, who cares about the single player?
 
Jesus Christ, is Gill easiest on the hardest difficulty level? People keep telling me "I beat him on the hardest doing this" and it just doesn't work against him in the lower difficulty levels. Cause I just played the game using your tips with Ryu and I still had to continue 6 times. I don't care what some of you say, you canNOT jump in on him. He always uses that axe kick when you do, and since that hits twice, parrying it is hard as hell.

Pressuring doesn't work because he seems to always know what I'm about to do. If he gets up and I try to hit low, he blocks low. I try to overhead, he blocks high. Try to throw, he hits at my legs.

But it's not like he destroys me. Out of those 7 times I fought him, 5 of them were 3 rounds that got to the wire. It's just when it's time to put him away, he just always seems to do the right thing at the perfect time.
 
Actually the same thing occured to me a few times, i swear it was as if the computer become harder when he was near fatal. This remains an interesting question, whether the AI is programmed is dependant to such variables as time or health. It may also be that we are both reading too much into things and it is pure coincidence. :P
 
It's true that you can't jump on him, because he'll axe you or whatever. But I dunno, there just seem to be situations where the AI just breaks down. I'm sure it depends on your rhythm and everything.
 
Yeah. My one problem with the AI in Third Strike is that the AI is not consistant between rounds. Some rounds (usually after 10+ continues) Gill starts to be real easy and will just let you hit him constantly the first round, doesn't block often, but then becomes normal hard Gill for the next two rounds. Just real odd, takes me out of the game.
 
Bumping this.

I did an experiment of sorts. I tried to beat Gill with Remy, and I discovered that it takes 15 loses before the AI becomes super stupid AI. The game basically just gives you the win. Gill stops blocking everything, stops doing his huge hitting combos... I hate that. I wanna beat the REAL him after that many tries. I just get so frustrated at losing to him with a sliver of life on the third round time and time again.

So if anyone else has any other tips that work, please give them to me.
 
I used to have the hardest time on him. He's a cakewalk for me now.

- If you're turtling, uses multiple jabs to push him away if he's approaching. He may parry (sometimes more than once) so you have to do many jabs.
- Learn to parry his flying knee drop. This leads to a much needed combo/super.
- Almost every character has a standing anti air move. This works well since Gill jumps towards you a lot if you push him to the other edge of the screen. Hugo's MP, Ryu's HK, Twelve's HP, etc.
- EX moves work well to stop Resurrection if done at the right time. Keep in mind there is a field around him that slows you/projectiles down. EX fireball, Hugo's EX clothesline, Yun's EX dash punch, etc work well.
- Don't let him get close or he will powerbomb you.
- Don't jump to him or you'll get the elbow/headbutt combo, rushing clothesline, the standing fierce kick or worse yet, a few meteors in your face.

If you have decent skill, that should be enough of a strategy to beat him IMO. It will take practice though.
 
I still remember the face I put the first time I played New Generation/2nd Impact when the fucker did a resurection...I was very surprised.
 
Obviously, you're not a jumpkick>sweep master. :D Seriously though, sometimes I can't land a single jumpkick on him and sometimes he falls for continuous sweeps the whole round. The most consistent strategy I beat him with is cornering him. Best done with characters good at pressuring like Makoto by staying on the offensive or counter-offensive.

Best help I've gotten. Thank you so much. Last time I faced him I realized he NEVER parries when he jumps in. He tries to do that one kick of his (which has huge distance and priority, so you gotta hit him high up so it don't hit you first) so that's a lot of free hits there. I realize I'm never gonna air parry any of his anti-airs consistantly, so stopping jumping is definetly on my list of things to do.

I still have only beaten him once on the first continue, and that was only because it was 1 star (I was Twelve, I didn't want to bother continue 27 times). Actually no, I beat it in 3 star my first try with Urien, but his moves are designed to beat Gill.
 
I forgot to mention, Yun & Makoto = instant double perfects (or close) on Gill. Their dashing moves on his stand up always hit if timed right. He might parry once in a while. With Makoto you'll need to charge it so it knocks him down.

Urien can combo his clothesline into his clothesline super easily.
 
I've beaten Gill at hardest difficulty using half the roster with the following strategies (the other half I haven't gotten to yet):


-Parry the fireballs to build up your super meter.

-Parry the Knee-drop to punish him afterwards.

-Punish him after you parry/block his tackle move.

-Put the hurt on him with a Super Art while standing next to him just as he wakes up.

-If he does his Meteor Super and you're right next to him, hit him ASAP.

-If he does his Angel of Death, block and then walk up and punish hard on his recovery.

-Hit him out of his resurrection (of course).

-If he has a Super bar, and you're leading, turtle smartly depending on how much time is left. Turtling smartly includes: Tech throws once he's right next to you (you can tech throws crouching). Parry or high-block if he does his Standing axe-kick. If he does his Knee-drop, dash under and out of the corner or parry/block.

-Finally, Anti-air his jump-ins early (if applicable to your character) so that you don't exchange damage and come out on the losing end of the trade.


That's what I use to beat Gill pretty consistently, your mileage may vary.
