Titanfall: Official Launch Trailer

The fact that there are probably objectives and a story interwoven into those "matches" completely eludes you?

There's most likely campaign mode dialogue and encounters on the map that aren't in normal multiplayer matches.

Take the bay/beach map. The campaign could consist of a landing in an attempt to capture something at that location. One side tries to push back the beachfront invasion and protect civilians while the other tries to push forward into the bay area to take over the Hydro Control Bay.

The success of either side could tie into alternate outcomes in the campaign. Try to think outside the box ;). People are excited, and you seem to think a pessimistic approach is the best way to see it.

I'm all for people being excited, I just don't thing hype helps anyone really. If Titanfall doesn't get straight 10's because of a lack of content come launch then NeoGaf will be crying in its coffee.

I can't see how not officially being told how many maps there are, how many titans or game modes can be a good thing.

Since they already have bots in play, I would actually like to see some story based "campaign moments" interwoven between multiplayer matches. Moving back and forth between specific single player style moments and multiplayer matches sounds kind of amazing. I wonder if there is anything like that in the final game?

1. I don't care what scores the game gets. It's already a 10 in my book after playing the beta.
2. I'd like to know how many maps there are, but they probably have some kind of coverage plan in place.
3. We know there are 3 titan classes, all of which could be used in the beta.

The normal multiplayer already does this to an extent. Large ships start falling from the sky during the end of the match

Also, one thing I never noticed people talking about is the presence of "hero" moments where the game seems to specifically place AI bots engaged in hand to hand combat for you to intervene in - where doing so gets you a bit of that campaign scripted moment vibe.

Only an idiot cries if something doesn't get 10s.

If it gets 7.5/8's...I'll be happy. Just 2 maps in the Beta and limited time told me it's a day one purchase. I haven't had this much fun in a shooter since Tribes and Unreal/Quake LANs in High School/my early 20's.

Well I'm honestly glad everyone is happy and I truly enjoyed the beta myself, even though I am far from a shooter fan. I just don't want people misled that's all.

Sure everyone on the Gaf will be happy because they are generally hardcore gamers, but if this game has a lack of content and does not represent value for money, then it will not be a success. Simple really.

So is there word on the final Xbox One res? Still trying to decide if I should go digital or not. Really like the fast switching you can get with digital games.

I appreciate the marketing for this game. People have mixed views on the "ethics" (for lack of a better term) of CG trailers. It is interesting how a game like Titanfall, a good looking title but not a graphics spectacle, has used exclusively in-game footage since the beginning.

It helps prove to other pubs/devs that you can get people excited about your game if you make it look fun, not just pretty.

Also, what's happening in the third screenshot in the OP? How is the Titan falling like that?

What exactly is misleading though? No one has answered this adequately. Every shot of the trailer probably came directly from the game in one mode or another. And how do you quantify value by map count, exactly? By the end of my time with the beta, I was STILL finding new paths and portions of the maps I had not previously discovered.

I won't say its purposefully misleading, but I do think the mainstream marketing should find a way to mention that the game is multiplayer-only. Otherwise people might see these trailers and get the wrong idea.

Has there been any marketing for this game that mentions the multiplayer only part?

Personally I think they should embrace and revel in it - their core audience would thank them for it I'd think.

Well, the trailer does say XBL Gold is required on Xbox.

Is the argument that it doesn't have a traditional single-player campaign or that it requires an Internet connection? Because as far as I am aware, all the retail boxes say that an Internet connection is required to play. And I don't really understand what the huge distinction is between a single-player campaign where you run down corridors and shoot things and what Titanfall is offering.

Thanks for showing up.

On a serious note, shooter fans have been playing mostly MP for quite some time now.

Very few people who play any of the bigger titles are going to think.. well I'm not getting any value out of this awesome MP experience.

I'm not really sure how they are supposed to gracefully say that it's "Online Multiplayer Only". Or if they need to.

World of Warcraft trailers don't come with giant "You Must Go Online To Play This Game" or "This is no singleplayer campaign!" disclaimers, nor do trailers for most other online-only titles (MOBAs, Shadowrun 360, Counterstrike Xbox, Chivalry, DayZ, etc).

And I don't really understand what the huge distinction is between a single-player campaign where you run down corridors and shoot things and what Titanfall is offering.
You realize there are a lot of shooters out there which offer a whole lot more than running down corridors shooting things. That's oversimplifying things.

Really, though, it's the social engagement aspect and constant go go go type of experience that actually does put me off a bit. This is a problem specific to myself, I believe, but sitting down to play multiplayer requires so much more of a commitment that I just can't seem to overcome. It's not the way I like to enjoy games. I can't relax when I'm playing multiplayer.

Both I'd think - just that you'd want to be crystal clear about that kind of thing, right? And to a multiplayer focused audience a focus on multiplayer would be a selling point, wouldn't it?

But I don't get that sense from the marketing at all, and especially this trailer, which would make most people who didn't know any better believe there was a single player campaign. I mean, why wouldn't they think so? All the big multiplayer games have offline campaigns.

We'll see though - maybe it won't be an issue.

Edit: v v v Awesome stuff ElTorro :)

This isn't a Naughty Dog game.

Let people get excited, no need to try and bring things down.

I am definitely interested to see what the response is. I've never seen Respawn's pursuit of campaign multiplayer as a big risk like some do, but it's possible that I am underestimating a typical FPS player's attachment to traditional single-player campaigns. Either way, it will be exciting to see how the market responds to something new like this.

Interestingly enough, South Park is going to be the thing holding me over until next Tuesday.

I would be playing it, but then I wouldn't be able to get Titanfall. I barely had enough to buy Titanfall. I should try to play some backlog steam games, but I know I'll probably just think about Titanfall until it comes out.

Title sequence is too long. (Sorry for shitty minus.com spam)

me after announcement "meh looks like cod with mechs"

me after playing beta and watching trailer "fuck everything else I want this game now"

Its a very well made trailer.

But i like these more popular kick ass way, these trailers are doing it. Having music in which the target audience likes, also I think the more testosterone amped tone of these ads resonates better with the cod/FPS BRO audience.

The majority of Gaf probably prefers the official titanfall trailer which would not surprise me .

When there some cool music combined with aggressive alpha footage, I'am just like wow.

Apart from the editing these are some fan made trailers I actually prefer , I like it when make the titan fall in time to the music

It's been all over the net.

Also why do you think there is so little information on the game? Do you think EA and Respawn are being quiet about the on disc content because a) it's lacking or b) because it's so wonderful it's not worth talking about.

15 maps is the equivalent to a 100 hour plus RPG for those like myself who spent 30 plus hours in the alpha/beta on 2 maps and very limited gametypes. The full package is MORE then enough.

Yes, especially if the maps are as quality as the two beta ones (that info might be out, but I'm not reading it).
