TLOU Remastered: 30 fps option gives better shadow quality [Up: Comparison GIF in OP]

Yeah, Naughty Dog essentially used every trick and graphical shortcut they could to get the game running on PS3 hardware, and because that stuff was in the engine all of that carries over to the PS4 version. This is still a game designed for the PS3, so there are weird things like that simply built into the engine. They aren't going to be able to fix or improve all of that without completely rewriting a bunch of stuff I assume. Trying to use stuff like that as evidence that the PS4 version is half-assed seems wildly unfair.

If true then that's fine. I still am curious why AO, moving wrinkles in clothing and some environmental shadows are missing

http://i.imgur.com/mtSWIg2.jpg <- That looks really bad to me. Impossible to not notice it.

Assuming that the game is about 15 hours long and you linger in that spot for about a minute to ruminate on how really bad that aliasing is that means that 15hrs*60mins/hr*60secs/min*60fps~3,240,000 unique frames will be shown to you the player. Now you lingered for a minute so 360/3,240,000= .0001111 or .01111% of this game is really bad. Hot off the presses this port is either half assed, full ass, lazy or really bad. Pick yo adjectives.

The clothing is probably because they've changed character models, and the shifting meshes have been applied to the higher poly models.

What happened to "cutscene models"? Now that I can see a direct comparison, they look exactly the same.

Very disappointed :(

There you go.

Anyone here familiar with tall poppy syndrome.

Looks like there are some genuine issues and concern though I think most issues are not things to be overly worried about. Sure, the lighting isn't perfect when you hold a torch at exactly the right angle in a particular scene.

But it's getting harder to tell which ones are genuine and which ones are trying to cut down the tall poppy.

Wow, some people's playthrough must be taking 150 hrs as they stop and try to pick out every fault they can find.

Did you even read who I quoted? Because right now you're dismissing me just because I'm a junior member and yet you failed to read who I quoted and what I replied to. Just because a title makes you feel superior doesn't mean you're actually superior.

I apologize. I didn't look to much into what you were responding to. My mistake.

There's a whole lot of weird going on in that screen. It doesn't seem representative at all of everything else I've seen from the game.

The models were always cutscene level since cutscenes and gameplay models had the same poly count but with reduced texture quality and shading in gameplay. They improved that in the remaster, what you are seeing in that picture is a result of harsh in game lighting. The lighting is probably the biggest reason for the difference between the cutscene models and gameplay models since the cutscenes feature high quality and soft lighting.

Here's a gameplay picture from an area with softer lighting

my main takeaway from this thread is that the PS3 version looked really good. ND really knows how to squeeze juice out of that fucker

Don't be, that comparison isn't very good imo (has a weird off-screen look to it, and super high contrast), people need to stop using it. This is what the character models actually look like in-game:

Now rest easy my child.

For the Gamestop promo deal, I know they'll accept games without the OG box/manual, but does anyone know for sure if you can just trade in the TLOU disc to get the deal?

Don't want to give up my sweet, sweet steelbook from the PS3 special edition.

They're using them, there just never was that much perceivable difference between them, biggest upgrade is the increased texture resolution, but it was always the lighting that made the difference in cutscenes.

Here is the comparison video on youtube (sorry don't know where else to post it). MAJOR SPOILERS DO NOT WATCH IF YOU HAVENT BEATEN THE LAST OF US. Early in the video there are several examples of cloth wrinkling and shadows present in the ps4 version.

Maybe now the drama queen hyperbole will stop....at least a little.

Ah, who am I kidding....

Also, what is that music in the video from? TLOU OST?

The amusing thing is, after all the who ha and this simply being a Remaster of a previous gen game, it still looks better than most new gen games, even big budget and prominent one's.

I think one thing we can all take away from this is Naughty Dog squeezed every ounce they could from the PS3 to create such a beautiful game in the first place.

I don't think the music is from TLOU, just the song someone picked to go with it. Also a disclaimer that is not my video. I don't know who the original creator is just that I downloaded the video and re-hosted it.

Under certain conditions it really looks outstanding.

But it reveals its origin under others. :P

I think the updated texture assets, improved AA/AF, and resolution will really let the art shine. They didn't redo anything, just let what was already there be shown off properly.

Agree. I watched the uncompressed Gamersyde video on my tv and was pretty amazed at how good it looks.

Now just imagine an Uncharted collection on PS4 :)
