Cool, but I'm more excited about the reprinted volumes. I hope they go further than just a collection of the first 11 issues, Mirage just did that (plus four of the character-centric one-shots) back in '09. I want the rest of that run.

I could also be talked into rebuying the Archie series.

IDW has been doing some awesome stuff lately. I'll be looking forward to what they do with TMNT.

I wonder if TMNT will crossover with the Transformers/Star Trek/GI Joe/Ghostbusters

Excellent news. Only sad thing may be that Volume 4 of the original Mirage series will likely never get its conclusion now. But a small price to pay if it means I'll get a comic series that will stay closer to tone to the Mirage anthology.

More details come in.

IDW Announces 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Creative Team [Exclusive]

What kind of gig could make a writer shout "Shell yeah!"? I think you know what kind. The all-new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from IDW and Nickelodeon. Debuting in August, the new series by original Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman, co-writer Tom Waltz and artist Dan Duncan sets out to reimagine the original TMNT in a contemporary setting. Rather than serve as a port for Nickelodeon's upcoming animated continuity, the 32-page, full-color comics will establish a fresh universe populated by both new and classic characters. What's more, in addition to co-writing, Eastman will contribute page layouts and variant covers alongside artists such as Sam Keith and Walt Simonson. We talked to Waltz to learn about the on the upcoming series. Read our full interview and see loads of new series art by Duncan and Eastman after the jump.

Red bandanas AND Eastman is back? Whatever may happen with that CG NickToon series, at least IDW's new comic seems to be something I can vibe with. And the collected trades are still happening too!

I want TPBs of the Archi comics run, I devoured that shit as a kid

They're supposedly going to happen. I'll take Archie and Mirage stuff in a different array of Ominbus, if they can make it happen.

Oh shit I hope so

Also, that artwork is nice as fuck. Hopefully its the same artist doing interiors.

And another group of turtles joins the fold. Sounds fun! Eastman returning is a surprise.

I really hope Laird gets around to finishing Volume 4. He probably won't though. :P

I always thought he was given the leeway to finish it.

I wonder if IDW will allow crossover with Miyamoto Usagi again... or maybe other entities, like Moo Mesa (thanks for reminding me, Tre!)

I love the new art, excepting the teeth. The way they're drawn, it looks like the turtles all are putting on their best "dat ass" face.

Laird seemed to be serious about wanting a break from the turtles. And so, he's getting just that. Still, the option for him to do a certain amount of stories per year is there, if he ever does feel nostalgic at any point in time.

But for me at least, I can stand to have a break from Laird. After all, he was among those who gave a green light to the likes of Fast Forward, which effectively killed off the 03 Toon. And Volume 4 took forever to really go any place (or maybe it just seemed like such, given the release schedule).

Do you have a source for the Archie news? I never heard anything explicit about the Archie run being reprinted. Only thing I've seen is they're at least doing the a hardcover of the first 11 issues of the original series (and I presume a couple of the one-shots, so it'll match exactly what Mirage put in paperback just two years ago).

I want all the rest of the first run to be collected, and I'd definitely love for the Archie run to get reprinted too. Seems at least possible, IDW did end up collecting Marvel's GI Joe.

Well, here's at least one such source that was captured a month ago.

Q: Does IDW have the rights to reprint the Archie comics?

A: YES. Because those books are based on the [old] cartoon, the thinking right now is to hold onto them until the Nickelodeon cartoon starts next year, but he could be persuaded to start sooner if interest was high enough.

So in short, the more people blow up IDW with wants and desires for Archie trades, the sooner we may get just that. Who knows, we may finally get those unpublished stories some day.

Wait hold on, is the Mirage comic canon discontinued now? Meh whatever it got boring anyway. I think a reboot is absolutely necessary

Hope it and the Archie run get collected in TPB though.

HOLY FUCK. How did I not hear about this!? HOW DID I NOT HEAR ABOUT THIS!?

I lost all hope after Laird abandoned Volume 4. Eastman is back!?

FUCK! MY PENIS!

Well...Laird's Mirage comic canon is basically on "indefinite hold" status.

Per the agreement with Viacom, Laird has the right to put out a certain number of stories per year (which he has yet to exercise). In short, if he ever feels nostalgic, he could opt to return to Volume 4.

But as of now, Laird seemed to have washed his hands of the property. So I wouldn't hold my breath.

@Sanjuro Tsubaki
Ah, there you are! Was wondering when you were going to join the party! :lol

Awesome, thanks. That all sounds pretty good to me. Seems like IDW is serious about releasing a lot of the old Mirage and Archie stuff, not just reprinting past collections.

Unless I hear it's awful, I'll check out the new run too (in trade form).

What's the status on Vol. 4 anyways? Last issue was #28, wish they'd continue it, I like the concept they're going with ATM.

I really liked Series 4. This is really sad news to me.

That said, Both Eastman and Laird back together is amazing news. AMAZING. I don't know why Eastman wasted his time with Heavy Metal for so long.

Like I said above/last page, it's on "indefinite hold" because Laird basically wanted to wash his hands of the property. Whether he comes back to finish his own story will remain to be seen.

You're a bit mistaken. Eastman IS back. Laird isn't.

What? It's JUST Eastman? That's fucking bizarre.

Well, look at this way. Laird wanted out, and there was an opportunity for Eastman to come back. :lol

Besides, after so many years of Laird having control over the property, it'll be interesting to see what Eastman can do with a TMNT comic by himself.
