That's it.....it finally happened. Somebody went and made an instrument that plays every single instrument known to man. The MDT Morrison Digital Trumpet. What does this mean for us? Are all of us classically trained musicians gonna be out of a job? No! This things sounds and looks like ass, but I think it's a hilarious fucking concept.

The MDT is a wonderful instrument and a pleasure to play- and look at. It truly is the "Rolls-Royce" of wind controllers. It has a beautiful blue glow like an instrument right out of Star Trek. It uses a real trumpet mouthpiece but you simply blow into it- you don't buzz the lips. Although the MDT is completely electronic, its familiar feel will enable an acoustic trumpet player to learn it quickly and start playing with the least amount of change from their trumpet skills. The valves move and feel like valves on an acoustic trumpet- but no valve oil is ever needed. Steve Marshall went to such lengths as to even use real trumpet springs and pads for the most authentic trumpet feel. The valves use high tech optical switches so there are no contacts to wear out or get dirty. There are also two right hand programmable buttons that are used for alternate fingerings, programming, and various performance features. The MDT responds unbelievably fast and precisely to your tonguing and breath, it sends numerous MIDI continuous controllers, can transmit on any MIDI channel (actually it can easily flip between two MIDI channels using the MDT's Breath Sustain mode), can send Program Changes including Bank Select messages, can send MIDI Volume (cc#7) or MIDI Expression (cc#11) for quick remote level adjustment of your synths, and it can instantly be transposed chromatically to any key.

Haha, that's great.

I'm a freshman trombone performance major at DePaul University. What do you play GMUNYFan?

Very cool. I study under Mark Fisher of the Lyric Opera Orchestra. I'm thinking of maybe going into a double major as well. How does it look like for jobs in education?

Job field is looking excellent in VA and NY where I'm looking since new schools are opening all over the place.

Um, this has already been achieved... Long ago. That's what MIDI does on music sequencing programs.

But if you listen to the guy who invented it, he says he played both Keyboard and Trumpet, but came to realize that the keyboard can play everything but it's way in the back of the group. The trumpet however is way up front for everyone to see, so he made a trumpet that can do the same thing as a midi keyboard, but still keeps the look of an instrument with valves and all. Personally as a musician I find it insulting that another musician would even think about making this piece of shit.

Sounds awful, looks awful, and all u need to do to play ANYTHING is blow air. If you can breathe, u can play an instrument.

Well, my opinion, to put it rather bluntly...

Get over it. :)

It's not like anyone who can blow into this is going to become an amazing musician, that still takes dedication and talent. Maybe it lowers the bar a bit so that more people can become musicians, but I hardly see that as a bad thing...

I'm sort of with both of you guys on this thing. As of now electronic reproduction cannot match the sound of an acoustic instrument (especially brass instruments). However it will be possible to in the future and then its SELL YOUR INSTRUMENT ITS ALL OVER (please don't ban me, I'm actually being serious here). And what difference will it make whether the music is being produced by a musician playing an instrument or a technician sliding bars on a computer screen if it sounds the same?

the cool thing about wind midi controllers is that you can acheive articulation control that is either not possible live or more difficult on standard keybord controllers.

I always wanted a sax EWI

do you mean thats why SYNTHS do while using MIDI on music sequencing programs?

cause if so, then you are correct.

if not, then you make no sense.

peace

I posted this as a joke.....and I meant it as a joke. I find this thing ridiculous, but I don't think that it's gonna put me out of a job. I find it ridiculous because it looks like a kids toy/machine gun(fa-mas).
