a douchebaggy whitewashed film? probably. I don't give a fuck. decent directing, hans zimmers score, watanabe and some nice cinematography and good costume design oh and samurais, is enough to give me a hard-on.
I am so glad I am not pretentious enough to hate anything that is non-kurosawa when it comes to this. I love both. fuck im awesome.
He is so tiny in real life. I love how he in top gun and other films really was such a massive sex symbol, strong and big. Nothing wrong with being a smaller man, its just that his roles and characters he played symbolised someone tall, and they constantly had to fix camera angles, have him stand on boxes in close-ups with other actors in frame.
They even used some of the LOTR tricks to play with perception, and distance of the character to make him seem bigger and them smaller.
What can I say, I actually really liked the third Mission Impossible. Do you remember 2006? It was just after "tom cruise is insane in oprahs couch" and wrecking the batman begins opening to promote war of the worlds and all that shit. Everyone wanted this to fail so bad, but if I recall right, everything else that summer failed.
I believe among them was pirates 3, cars, da-vinci code, superman returns, and they all ended up like being pieces of shit. MI3 was a really solid, good action movie. It was also one of those that was not CGI heavy, didn't take the bourne moving action camera and fast cutting, and most importantly, phillip seymore hoffman was a good villain and that was why it worked a lot of the way. One movie dwarfed MI3 on it's own turf though. And that was Casino Royale. A Action masterpiece. Perhaps the best Bond film ever.
MI2 I also like much more than many other people. Hans Zimmer made some great songs for this( I love this scene.. injection:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UqM_PHSv8w < great music). MI1 I actually like the least. I saw it recently and I dont think it holds up very well. MI2 had many flaws, but the action worked well, and it had a good look about it. I had a time faulting it.
Collateral. The best Tom Cruise film ever. I actually even like it more than Magnolia. This one hits a nerve after multiple viewings. If you really think that Cruise is a psycho in real life, he probably was able to take some of that and put it into this rational but cold, character.
I really really this film is a gem, and horrible underrated. It's one of Mann's best along with Last of the Mohicans and Heat.
Love this scene, "yo homie, is that my briefcase" :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmKR6evZRQQ < It has a bit of documentary in there. It's such great proof how camera movements can dictate what we feel and how we see things. So many people don't think about this when they talk about good cinematography. Makes me go FFFFFUUUUUU all over my man tits.
others I liked are Minority Report, but he was just Tom Cruise in that film. He was great in Eyes Wide Shut. That film rocks!
