Tomb raider Anniversary Edition -psp- Imprssive video of this ¿cancelled? game

I don't care about the second game or portables, but a remake of the first game would've been really nice! Too bad, I guess.

edit: what the hell is with the SW Ep. 1 soundtrack running over it? :lol
Damn, that looks pretty damned great...looks really, really finished, too. :/ I <3 TR1.

I don't see why would Eidos cancel it. The TR franchise is back in full force judging by the Legends sales.

It is not cancelled,it will be out this fall for Psp and they're considering on releasing it also on PS2.I don't know anyway if this movie is authentic although it looks really good for a PSP game.

Looks like a PC version. I would say it's fake.
Not even the original PC versions had character models and environments looking that nice. As more a mod.. I don't think it's likely judging by the choppy framerate. Unless whoever was running this on a PC, it must be a bit old.

That looks very nice. Probably even better looking than PSP version of TR:Legend on PSP (although that game has streaming environments and is overal a lot more complex) I hope it gets released.

Damn I was expecting to see some shitty video, but that looked great. Someone find out if this video is real.

This is most likely in no way an official trailer even if it's legit. It's either fake (fan made using mods or God knows what) or a developer made trailer for a presentation to publishers or something like that.

The imperfect texture filtering (there's some small amount of shimmering here and there) sure does look like PSP.

Pretty much anyone could have laid that over the trailer, although it does seem to be cut to Duel of the Fates, particularly at the end. Might have been a dev at Crystal D muckin' about with some game footage though, it happens.

I'd kill for that. Tomb Raider 1 was a masterpiece when it came out and even going back and playing it today it is still awesome. Tomb Raider 2 was pretty good as well.

Everything in that trailer looked great. We need this, Eidos. If Core was originally working on it, please get a new studio on this pronto.

This doesn't look real.

The controls and animations (running animations, pushing animations) still say "Tomb Raider original engine," so unless Core/CD left them in for tradition's sake, it's probably a mod.

But wow. It's gorgeous.

CORE DESIGN has spoken at its web page:

"8th June 2006, 12:06:51
Following forum speculation that Core Design is no longer trading, we're pleased to say we're still very much here, so worry not. In fact, we're waiting to officially announce some very exciting news very, very soon. Watch this space."

So, I think this psp project is NOT cancelled (now there's a lot of buzz surrounding Tomb Raider).

(I'm still waiting for an answer of Eidos and/or Core Design)

I don't understand why Core would be working on it. If Core is working on it, it's going to be poopy.

Unless CD gave them the engine and everything they had done on TRL.

Huh? I saw lots of screenshots/footage of a PSP port of the new TR game (the X360/PS2 one) in magazines, so wtf is this?

edit: Um, why are they using Star Wars music?

Remake of the original Tomb Raider and TR2 entitled "Tomb Raider 10th anniversary edition."

It was supposed to be built using the TRL engine, but now I'm not so sure if CORE is doing it. Brace for disappointment.

Edit: It appears to really be CORE. Sadness am here.

Tomb raider forums are hot now. Eidos and Core Design are expected to make official announcment very soon.

From Tomb Raider Chroniches web

Following massive restructuring after the release of The Angel Of Darkness - both in terms of mission objectives and Eidos' plans to streamline its business - the studio refocused and geared its workforce to create and develop titles for Sony's PSP. Smart Bomb and Free Running were born.

Speculation is rife that Core Design is currently reworking the original Tomb Raider video-game for a special 10th anniversary edition planned exclusively for the Sony PSP console, to be released later this year.

I would if I haven't already bought the 360 one and loved that one.

The game needs to be on the TRL engine or I won't even consider taking that gigantic step backwards to 1996.

Ok checking TRC, and apparently the trailer is 100% legit. A guy from Core who posts there pretty much confirmed that its real and he's pissed that it's been leaked like this. He also says to ignore the speculation you've heard on it (i'm guessing he's referring to the cancellation bit). News is apaprently coming pretty soon, he says either tomorrow or Monday there will be official word on it.

pspupdates.com (Please edit out the name if that site is bad) has the full trailer at correct PSP resolution.

It definitely looks PS2 caliber! Really nice. I think the only thing I'd change is the resolution of some of the environment textures, or keep them low and make use of emboss bump mapping.

The character models look excellent, and make use of self-shadowing and curved polygon rendering, as in Laura's thigh you can pause and kinda see the polygon 'edges' where one poly starts and another ends, but the poly itself is curved. Also, look at the Dino tails. and their bodies. Really nice.

Judging by the use of music, I'd imagine this video is from an early build and was meant for internal use only. At least I'd hope so since Lara's model and the animation looks considerably worse than TRL's.

Yes, it looks great, but how does it PLAY?

Is it Legend engine and do you trust core?

In some ways it looks like the Legend engine (environments) in other ways it doesn't (Lara's animation). What's interesting though is that it actually looks better than TRLegend on the PSP.

As for trusting Core, if they're using the controls from Legend then yah I trust them. They really aren't bad, its really just the controls that was their big issue. But I wonder if they're even working on it anymore. The guy also mentions that Core is no longer part of Eidos. So there's 2 possiblities here, Core was working on this remake but left Eidos and its since been switched over to CD or another company. Or Eidos has contracted Core to make it as they did with CD with Legend.

Core shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the Tomb Raider franchise.

Totally agree. They just don't get it anymore.

It won't be fun playing TR1 in nice graphics with 10 year old gameplay and I don't think CD would just turn over their engine.

Well, we're still waiting for an official confirmation from Sci, Eidos or Core Design. We will wait a few days in order to close are august edition. But, I'm pretty sure this project is not cancelled and later this year it will be out.
Tomb raider forums have gone crazy all the afternoon (there's sill A LOT of Tomb Raider fans), and the cancellation rumour is going to force Core and Eidos to make an official annoucement very very soon.

How can you cancel a game that wasn't even officially announced? :lol

ask nintendo! metroid dread: never forget!

also, just emailed eidos and got th' standard company line

Gah, EIDOS! Deny that CORE is involved! DENY CORE DENY!!!

Crystal Dynamics, my heroes, save me!!

CORE should have a bunch of god damn morons to screw this game after Legend. Crystal Dynamics gave them away with the latest game all they need to fix the series, or at least the old games.

What do you mean? I really doubt that Crystal Dynamics would give CORE the engine they developed with their own funds unless CORE/Eidos paid them to do so.

And if they did, Lara still animates like trash.

I want to say that Legend shows very clearly everything wrong with the previous games. CORE only needs a piece of paper and a pen to take notes.

Uh?
Crystal Dynamics does what Eidos decides, they're not independent, they're all studios owned by Eidos.
And actually it makes much sense to let Core make the remake of their game with the Legend engine already ported on PSP while Crystal is working on the future of the series on the next gen consoles.

Oh, and I know I will cream my pants when Eidos unveils the next Tomb Raider. The Xbox 360 version of Legend was pretty neat, but not next gen.

Man, Legend made me a Lara fanboy again.

Crystal Dynamics is owned by Eidos (since 1998), yes, but CORE was liquidated on May 11th. What is left of CORE to design this game?

EDIT: Read the post. Seems like a very small team working.
