Still not perfect, but just a heads up if you guys want to check it out.

Waiting for the inevitable physical release and i'm glad I waited as this sounds like a big update. Almost sounds like it needed a few more months in the oven.

Does it have original bump mapping now?

Really hoping it gets released as a Deluxe Edition, like the remastered version of I-II-III.

Oh great they fixed the NPC models. I haven't checked yet but when I encountered the secondary NPCs and I noticed the ps2 graphic, I stopped immediately to play it.
Sigh. Checked now. Seems they fixed most of the NPCs models but not all. For the fuck sake why some model is still stuck to the ps2 version, this shit is annoying.

They probably have small teams working on these ports. The first remasters took like 3 or 4 updates to have these things sorted out as well (even if the games released in a great state for remasters of these old games)

Awesome to see. Went through these games a few months ago. Didn't have as great a time as I did with the first three, but that was a given seeing as how these are the black sheep of the series.

AoD is also definitely not some misunderstand flawed gem. That game was absolutely broken on a fundamental level.

Tomb Raider I - III Remaster was a day one purchase for me. For me TRIII feels like my cut-off point for the classic Core series.

I have owned Chronicles and revelation on PC for decades. Never could get around to completing either of them. Never really had any interest in Angel of Darkness. I'm sure I'll get around to them eventually.

The Last Revelation is better than 3 in every way. You should definitely play that one.

Didn't the game suck, anyways?
It's better to include all games in a collection as an option, than to leave out specific ones because people felt that they sucked.

The latter is why we never got Arkham Origins in the Arkham collection and potentially why the 3D PS1 and PS2 Contra/Castlevania games are missing from their collections.

I am also interesting in giving AOD a fair shot. My biggest turn off with Chronicles has always been the opening tutorial stage. Which always felt so wrong for a Tomb Raider game. But I often here that it does get better once you get past that. Revelations always felt like a collection of bonus stages. I'll probably wait for a ... Steam Sale.

When it comes to the classic Core Tomb Raider, the original 1996 game is still on my list of all-time greats. I think it is one of the most influencial games of the 5th console generation, and it laid a lot of groundwork for future third person 3D platformers. Even though the original game (and its sequels) falls under the cinematic platformer category these days. The first time I ever played Tomb Raider was on the Sega Saturn shortly after it was released.

The Last Revelation was a proper evolution to the series after 3 being basically TR2 done by a B team, only harder and bigger. (TR2 team went on working on an actual sequel, which was TR4 The Last Revelation). From the first level you can tell things are different.

Some levels are interconnected for the first time in the series as well. Most of the times it worked even though Cairo levels are a nightmare (but honestly...not much more frustrating than Antartida from TR3).

TLR is the best game in the franchise and collection was to me pretty much worth it for this game alone.

I beat it on this collection, well before the update hit. It doesn't always make sense on where to go, like many classic games of that era, but it isn't all that bad. I kind of enjoyed Cairo. You're pretty much opening the way for your motorcycle so that you can get past the dragon and enter the Citadel. Game peaks at Alexandria and there are also some set pieces in between the tombs such as the jeep section and the train. TLR is one of the best games I've played this year so far. It doesn't hold your hand in any way. Felt good beating it.

I also learned to like the modern controls. I prefer them in fact. You lose backflips (though you can do them with weapon), but you gain a lot. You can just diagonally walk around enemies, or evade rolling debris in a fair manner. Just train to hold R2 at all times and you'll never fall off. Also bless the shortcut buttons.

AoD is interesting, I am at Hall of Seasons and the game is more of a mystery thriller. There is also some RPG elements in there, like talking to NPC for hints or errands. The game has some very questionable design choices such as level progression being gated behind an invisible power stat. Its by no means good, but its novel and the OST slaps.

In my opinion Arkham Origins is the best of the lot. Its stuck to PS360 as far as consoles go which is a shame, and yeah it def was less polished than City. It has the best story and boss battles of the saga though. Would play a remaster again.

Patch 2 just dropped. Here's the patch notes (and apparently a lot of stuff isn't included). Sounds like another meaty one. Anyway, here it is:

I've been going through Tomb Raider Chronicles forums and lots of stuff isn't mentioned here. The following list and feedback is based on comments on that forum and i haven't checked them out. Almost all of them for The Angel of Darkness:

(Angel of Darkness)
. They have removed the tutorial boxes and re-added in the tutorial lines from Lara in Parisian Backstreet.
. Homeless men and their dog have been remastered.
. The Sleeper has been remastered.
. There's colour filter, colour intensity, noise, blur, and lighting options in photo mode!
. A lot of texture updates in AOD-HD right from the start and the difference when you change graphics is so much more noticeable.
. Tank controls for the game have been given a considerable update apparently.
. The movements seem to have been slightly improved, especially the gunfight system in modern controls.
. The reflections are amazing and in my opinion much better than the original (the OG reflections always felt like too much for me, it was literally like looking in the mirror)
. There's a ton of reflections throughout the game like in Hall of Seasons, Neptune's Hall, Monstrum Crime Scene, etc. and not just in the first level and the Louvre like some people were claiming
. Water looks great, they really nailed to intensity of the reflection
. Bsides the new remastered character models, they even upgraded already existing remastered models
. We can finally use the X Ray machine, it's so cool *
. Francine's watch is automatically sold when you reach Prague
. A bunch of restored dialogue
. A ton of bugs were fixed

* I have no idea what X Ray machine people are mentioning over there.

(the only one about The Last Revelation)
. New loading screens for The Last Revelation

Haven't found any feedback on Chronicles yet.

The first trilogy also got an update but for those Golden Guns no one asked for.

If you guys have been holding on, specially for AOD seems like this could be a big help. But it's not like the game was rebuilt. You can't polish a turd but seems to be getting better and better.

Mmm nothing about an option to toggle higher contrast/brightness in Angel of Darkness? It's really too dark almost "broken" in some area.

It is amazing how well they are supporting these games! Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness was a looker on PS2 IMHO and they are improving the visuals, restoring content, fixing bugs, and enhancing a lot of the experience.

By having it ported to so many platforms, works really well on Steam Deck too, it is easy to keep it alive in the era of digital libraries.

Fair to say they released far less updates this time than the previous collection and, especially Angel of Darkness, is really in a rough state. I have to try it before express my opinion but they have supported a lot better the first trilogy and it wasn't that easy to play with Angel of Darkness. The brigthness is also broken.

They have released humongous updates though. For the brightness bit, a lot of devs and film makers are seemingly using only very high quality very bright and perfectly calibrated HDR panels in completely dark rooms and sensibilities changed… in some cases the realtime switch to the old graphics can help there.

What do you mean? They are releasing the updates each 2 or 3 months months. Like the previous collection. Its not that different.
In fact most requests at this point besides AOD updates is another final update for the first trilogy that is actually behind in a lot of things. The biggest one? No 60fps for those games in their old mode.
This collection is building up on stuff they did on the previous remaster already. The first two games don't really need updates at this point. Its mostly AOD.

Didn't the game suck, anyways?
It was woke, but it's punishment era has ended, the wheel turns and we move forward. It is now officiated as a post-woke product.

You may go ahead and purchase.

Correction : This applies to I-III, not sure about IV-VI

Those 3 TR are awful.

I bought the collection just to have all 6.

TR1 & 2 are still some of my favorite games of all time.

Yep, I remember now why I've only played 4-6 once. And I consider myself a TR fan.

It was great playing the original again, though. Loved it!

For the first trilogy they released updates almost every two weeks or at least more frequently and regularly, I had almost lost hope lately. Honestly Angel of Darkness still shows too many weird bugs, unnecessary loadings and the brightness is still broken (let's not talk about the input delay of the controls...)

The last revelation might be the best Tomb Raider game of the classics. The way all levels interconnected was just a huge step ahead for the franchise.
Its miles better than tr3 at least.

I will always like tr1 and 2 though. The Temple of Shian level is the best TR level of the classics. What a masterclass of level design that is.
