Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition |OT| Lara shot first

A digital release on PSN? Ok, that makes it a bit more tempting. I've got about $35 in PSN credit and wasn't planning on using it anytime soon since the new games that I really want on PS4 I'll buy physical copies of. I might use it towards this. I'm going through AC4 now and Don't Starve after, so we'll see if the price has dipped a bit when I'm done with those. Didn't think I'd double-dip for Tomb Raider in spite of all the fun I had with it but I'm slowly coming around to it.

I've played worse. But it was the poor mans uncharted MP.

Lagged like hell too. Suposidly they had to rip out middlewate and rebuild it for this release. Maybe it got better

Honestly, both of the faces are kind of bad for different reasons but at least with the old face, it just looked kind of plasticine, whereas the new face looks straight up derpy half the time.

I hope to god that for TR2, they just go with the concept art Lara. So much better than either of the faces to date.
 
Just got back from Gamestop with my X1 copy (I know I know, laugh at me :P). They had a few copies of both the regular edition, and the art edition sitting behind the counter on the shelf for both platforms. I just asked for it and the guy checked the art edition and it was the same price as the regular definitive edition, so he rang me out with that, no mentions of street date or anything :P.

The case it comes in is pretty awesome, it's a white hard cover book-like case with the artwork pages built into it, and in the back is the game.

Just put it in my Xbox 2 minutes ago and just got the notification that it is ready to play at 7% (it's already up to 20% as I finish typing this.)

Debated getting it on PS4, but I have a few X1 friends who want to play some MP when they grab it, and my PS4 friends have no plans on buying it last I heard... so went with that one.

Pretty excited to play, heard great things(didn't play last years version) :)

If the tree pic is representative, the textures took a huge hit compared to the pc version.
 
UPDATE

Gamestop JUST called me and told me that I could pick it up :)

He actually mentioned how the street date was broken and everything...

The multiplayer is beyond terrible, you probably should have read up on that before making that decision :(


Either way, enjoy the game! It's super fun :)

I actually started reading about it before the decision, but my friends and I can usually have fun and at least laugh at bad games/MP, and generally get fun out of it that way... is this beyond stupid though?
(For instance, I rather enjoyed Bioshock 2 MP, and Singularity MP and I know people didn't care for either of those generally)

Oh well, probably should have grabbed the PS4 version, I'm sure I screwed myself, but since I won't play the PS4 version I won't know what I'm missing out on :P.
 
While the new face can look great at certain points, it can definitely look terrible too.
I think the old face was more consistent at looking good.

I'm enjoying my second play more than my first. The graphics look pretty good aside from in MP, those things are bad.

Funny enough I don't think they've change it, its just more detailed now and closer to the artworks and CG imo

Yeah it definitely looks closer to the original artwork. I disagree with the "no changes" part though. The eyes are the most noticeable change.

I like the old eyes but they lacked colour, they was lighter
Her new eyes are gorgeous, don't know whats not to like

Yeah as in Lara was supposed to look how she does now but that wasn't possible on lastgen, so it changed in that sense but technically it was wasn't because that was the original design anyway, if ya know what I mean
 
Just picked up my copy- they had a bunch of Xbone versions on the shelf, but only a few for PS4. Although those were the regular versions; the clerk took my copy, with the artbook, from behind the counter.

It varies. I've seen DF do comparisons the day after a release but then I've seen them do comparisons up to three weeks later. I suppose it depends on the popularity and hype of the game they're comparing.

Wow. Didn't know this. I was considering it for the ps4 before this thread, but now I truly can't justify paying $60. Maybe if it was locked at 60 I would change my mind.
Edit: misread this. Glad multiplayer is still in.

I'm telling you man, the old Lara was riding on Hunger Games hype.

The new Lara, although a little jarring, does look closer to the original CG design.

My only criticism that started from the first reveal is that the subtle emotion is lost in the newer model during the in-game cut scenes. Maybe the animation got stiffer, it was rushed, or whatever.

Because no one else is selling it early. I wouldn't deal with them otherwise. I thought that would be blatantly obvious but apparently not.

There should be a comparison between the CG render and the new Lara.
 
I was watching a stream earlier where Lara was hanging upside down and her hair was still going down her back, it looked ridiculous.
