Probably the best we can hope for unless someone like Nightdive remasters Deathtrap Dungeon.

I've not seen anything as a spiritual successor to the puzzle platformer that the OG TR games were.

There's a couple of big reasons of why ths is a bad casting (other than this, she's a good actress).

It's a shame, because with a good director, writer and fitting actress they could make very cool Tomb Raider movies.

Man, Jolie was just on another level. Like, Sophie Turner looks fine, but rather bland compared but Angelina Jolie was like a super model, super hero, larger than life person as Lara.

The new laras dont come close.

I have no faith this will turn out well.

This is almost surely going to be a feminist version of Tomb Raider. Similar to the horrific 2019 Charlie Angel's film. And just like Charlie's Angels, the demographic is young male men, not women. I hate the overly anti-woke shit, but this is a terrible idea

Also, Sophie Turner is a very mediocre actress. Outside of Game of Thrones, she has done nothing noteworthy

Work some purple shades (sexual frustration) in there to catch gooner zoomers.

Always tilt the camera down just a tiny few degrees so she seems bigger than the viewer (Freudian gooner principles).

Alica Vickander was a pretty good reboot trilogy Lara. I actually kinda liked the movie as far as game to movie adaptions go.

She did ok but that movie was a snore-fest. I truly hope they don't make a movie as boring as Alicia's version.

What made Jolie's movies stand out (as highly inaccurate as they were) was the fact that everyone involved had fun with the concept and was in it to make a fun movie.

I'd even recommend the Dora movie to people here, in the vein of the Jolie movies, because it was a fun family friendly Tomb Raider movie.

It was also Isabela Merced's first role and she has been a scene stealer ever since this movie.

I can sort of see how they came up with this - modern video game movies that landed have been those that had fun with the franchise i.e. Sonic, Mario, Minecraft and it's perhaps easier to have fun with a female character with a female writer with some comedy pedigree… but this still seems like an absolutely terrible mismatch with the core demographic of people who might actually pay to watch this and the casting is bizarre.

Verdict: box poison poison. It will have to launch on netflix so nobody has any idea how few people watch it.
