Toonami is BACK

What I'm most concerned about is if Toonami's comeback will bring new bumps like Broken Promises and their special openings for shows. I feel pretty sure that we can expect that for openings, but might be a while before we see some bumps.

The biggest contributor to the final death of Toonami was the Naruto fillers. They were so close to the end of the fillers too, the ratings would've been fine had they picked up Shippuden but for whatever reason they dropped it.

I also just realized that the HD Cartoon Network/Adult Swim channel is three hours ahead of the SD channel, so I'll actually get to watch this at 9 to 12, and still go sleep at a decent time.

They make a good point. If the block stays stagnant, people will watch for awhile but then move on quickly. Ideally you would want to air new things, catch the interest of a new audience. And then also pepper in some classics, to keep the old fans. Airing the block as it was 10 years ago seems pointless to me.

I'm actually surprisingly indifferent to this news, despite the fact that I grew up on Toonami. I actually sorta miss the pre-Adult Swim days, to be honest. I remember getting so hyped up for the Midnight Run.

I honestly don’t have a problem with his tweets. He’s right, anime and the times have changed. A lot of people who will be watching Toonami will be the old school fans who watched it back in their youth, but because of its Saturday timeslot they’re more than likely going to get younger people watching it too. And as we all know the younger generation doesn’t always appreciate the classics, so it does make sense not to air any older shows, unless they’re of excellent quality like Bebop and should be forced down a younger audience’s throat.

Besides not all new anime is shit.

we didnt say that. Besides, theres six or so shows from last year he can air, and 20 or so from the last 5 years. DeMarco knows what hes doing.

I'm glad they addressed this. The 90's shows were good, but I really don't want to see the same old shows over and over again. Then it really would just be a re branding and not something special.

I also love how people assume Anime is nothing more than moe and "battling" shows like Beyblade and Pokemon. I know its an obvious troll, but seriously... that's like commenting that US television only consists of shitty reality shows and audition shows like Dancing with the Stars and Real Housewives... instead of a variety like Game of Thrones and Revenge.

If anything, I hope they show recent shows:
Deadman Wonderland
Eureka Seven AO (and show the original as well)
Tiger & Bunny
Zetman (edited of course)
OnePiece
Persona 4
Katanagatari (not recent, but still good)
Monster (oldie but goodie)

And not all old 90's anime you can find in a pawnshop shelf or cousins ancient DVD collection.

If the US Business had there way... but there are some who fight against those trends you mentioned before. DeMarco is one of them.

I'm wondering if adult swim will be allowing viewers to watch the shows on their site. I've left cable and I'm worried this will pull me back in.

Tiger & Bunny and One Piece and I guess Monster are probably the only ones that can make it this year/summer. Dont know why they would do Monster, One Piece...but if they can do two episode each week, even then it will take two and a half years just to catch up to what Funimation has licensed currently... For the rest can anime really be dubbed that fast and come to tv even while they are still airing in JPN (Eureka Seven AO still has 20 more weeks).

Guys. GUYS.

Megas XLR Season 2.

...I will pay to have cable television reinstated in my house if that happens.

The fact that they aren't announcing the line-up in advance coupled with the "Move forward" comment makes me think I'll probably only be watching this once to see what's on, be disappointed and never watch it again.

I am going to post that they should show Gurren Lagann until they fucking do it.

You don't understand until you've seen this show. Toonami exists specifically for that show to be pushed, goddammit. I don't care that it was on SyFy - it doesn't count. Toonami or BUST.

Why didn't they let fans vote on 3/4 of the line up? That way, they would appease anime fans and a large chunk of people would tune in because they voted for those shows. The last 1/4 could be spent on shows that skew toward a younger demographic.

Because there's no guarantee that people who vote ever have or ever will watch the channel (people will be voting for their favorite shows just to see them win, regardless of whether they have the channel or not), and are still voting anyway? Not to mention that's just asking for something like a block of people on 4ch or reddit or something to get together and troll the results, making sure the winning stuff is junk like Tsubasa or something. Having a (non-1 day) television lineup decided via vote is a very bad idea.
