To be fair, the build-up to GL was amazing because of the sense of scale kept growing. We went from being underground to the surface to flying in the air to space to OMG ROBOTS AS BIG AS GALAXIES.

Considering the show hasn't even left Earth, its not close to Gurren's scope.

Its definitely its own thing at this point.

Its not just scale but also themes, characters, music, animation & art, etc. KLK doesn't measure up in most respects.
