Part of me wonders if we've put this in the top ten as a political decision to stop us burning in the flames of damnation.

This was the motive behind most top 10 lists imo.

I haven't played Halo 2, but the comments are the kind of things I've heard off friends etc who have it. I haven't played Total War either. I agree with everything else on the list :D

Although Eurogamer in the main is a decent site the Halo2 statement make them look slightly foolish. Saying Halo2 is only in their top 10 because of political reasons, and that fact they would gat hassle? On about going with your instincts. For me Halo2 should be in the top 10 quite eaisly, it still for me has the best battles in any FPS in the some of the best designed levels with fantastically balanced weapons against enemy with great AI. I'm about 3/4 through finsihing HL2 for the 2nd time, I want make sure I fully experience this game and I think I have now. Yep its got some great areas where you can use the enviroment to cause great great damage and destruction but and I haven't seen this pointed out strongly before, it feels (and to me is) more linear than Halo2 by a long shot. The gun battles are nowhere near the standard of halo2 nor is the AI. In some area's the fights feel postively cheap in comparison with enemies poping out of nowhere whilst other areas shooting one explosive barrel takes out a whole squadren. It is still a great game but I'm having trouble finding the greatness places like Eurogemer and Edge have placed on it and at the same having trouble understand the backlash Halo2 is receive. But hey opinions are like arseholes, we all have one.

"Agree with our selections? Of course you don't. Nobody's ever going to be "right" about this sort of thing."

ding ding ding ding ding

I'm starting to see a pattern with Halo 2. It got too popular and now some feel the need to tear it down a notch. Understandable because it's on a console that some just can't really force themselves to like. Good luck there. It's probably at around 7 to 8 million worldwide in sales now. Have fun.

People were let-down. It happens. I know you like it because you pretty much have to, but not everyone in the world did. It's gotten a lot of recognition as one of the best games of the year and from some of all-time. Let it go.

That's just damage control bullshit. And that you even try to reinforce the childish 'oh it's just 'cause it's too popular people have to hate on it, reverse psycology bollocks by quoting sales, as a quality indicator.

For lots of people Halo2 just wasn't that great (even once you take in to account the hype). Not everyone gets a hardon for 16 player online play, and finds the single player to be lacking.
