Intel CEO admits the company is no longer a top 10 chipmaker

the way they fumbled their CPU market share is a generational blunder.

AMD absolutely destroyed them across the board basically
their PC CPUs are fine, the issue is they dont have ARM, they dont have good GPUs, their AI offerings are meager, they're getting their ass kicked on server... the only thing they're sort of ok in is PC CPU but that is like being the best horse and buggy manufacturer in 1900. It's not where computing is going.

the CPUs are fine, but AMD basically outplayed them while they were stagnant for multiple years.

now Intel is seen as a stability risk, as slower than AMD and as less efficient.

this then begs the question, why buy Intel? and that's the issue they're currently in. there's no good reason to buy an Intel board/cpu over an AMD one. for a while it was the other way around... and then Zen3 happened.

I dunno. I've been buying AMD since Zen 1 came out, even though Zen 1 wasnt as good as Intel's at the time.

But a lot of people still buy Intel.

my first AMD CPU was a Zen1+, and I only got it because it was cheap basically. back then they were still behind Intel in performance. Zen 2 caught up, and Zen3 overtook them for a while. and now they are basically chasing AMD ever since.

I think Intel is only really used by people who either got a good deal, or who buy prebuild PCs.
I doubt anyone who wants to built their own PC and is looking for good performance would choose intel.

whole just 5 years ago I think these positions were entirely flipped around

Intel will never be the same. They fucked up too hard and now the world is passing them by.

If you're tempted to buy Intel stock, just don't. It's fool's gold, plain and simple.

That's what happens when you're at the top of your game and instead of engineering better products to keep their top spot they doubled down on stupid marketing tactics that made more money in the short term but set them up for failure in the long term.

I've used intel CPUs for a while, and AMD only dabbled with at certain times. If I was building a new computer today though, easily would be an AMD CPU, and likely an AMD GPU if I wanted the best bang for buck mid-tier option.

AMD has been killing it with their CPUs at great price and power since AM4 and onwards. Really happy with my AMD mobo CPU and don't need anything else. Intel got itself to blame by being too conservative during the AI rush.
I really appreciate their support for older mb's in newer CPU's. Makes upgrading a really affordable option for cheapskates like me who still like to upgrade fairly frequently

Built an AMD PC for World of Warcraft in 2005. Been using Intel exclusively since 2009. 🤷
Bulldozer will do that to a mofo. I had a 6 core Phenom II and only recently and very reluctantly bought a 7800x3D. Those 3 core Phenom II's tho.... ooooooooh weeeeeeee. Man that 955 Black Edition triple core? Tough to beat.

18A was supposed to be sexy, then clients evaluated it and.... didnt use it.
that was just a month or two ago.

so now theyre humping 14A hard, which does appear competitive, but i guess we'll have to see.
if 14A fails... that might be it for Intel Foundry
maybe the govt buys it.
That's not quite the case… Amazon, Broadcom and Microsoft all liked it enough to place orders (yes, defense contractors too), however, they were unable to meet demand and had serious production and quality control issues at volume and had to cancel most of it, leading them instead to just focus on 14A and buy themselves more time.

So it's worse than you thought.

Well, Intel has been resting on their laurels. AMD was doing very poorly during the FX days but once Ryzen released, they should've gotten their shit together then. Even more so when AMD started stealing the server space from Intel, they should've put a lot more into Xeon, but they didn't.

Intel got cocky, and are now paying for it. They could always come back but for now, AMD is reaping the benefits.
