"Top 10 Worst Game Controllers"

Also, anything with this on it:

Now that i disagree with, Mad Catz has made some fairly good pads.

You always hear a group complaning, "oh no brand X just took brand Y's design..." :)

Yaknow in the end..who really cares? I have no problem with any company copying one another because in the end if it gives me a better feel for the games I play.

copying is totally the wrong term... its called "refining"

that said, the 360 (quality of build aside, and debateable) is a great refinement, but brings zero innovation to the table. i see that as a case were refinement falls short. and yes, i know it has a light and you can plug in your mic to it. bleh. i still liike it though :)

im going to guess we will see some pretty neat game-specific controllers this gen.

I can't believe they didn't mention the Konix Speedking.
Good ergonomics, unless you needed to press the fire button rapidly.

Wow. That brings back so many AMAZING memories of my C64. That was easily the best joystick for it.

Who can find a picture and/or name of the Sega Genesis gyro (don't hate me if it wasn't gyros) joystick? It was a third party "one handed" joystick that you leaned and tilted. If I remember correcty in came in clear circular packaging. Anyone?

Do you guys seriously not know how to backup your statements?

"The GC is the worst!" which then becomes:

1a. It's not good for Capcom vs SNK 2* which then becomes
1b. The button layout is not good for fighting games

or

2. I couldn't play RE4 on it

For scenario 1, you are only saying its a bad controller for fighting games and completely ignoring the majority of games out there. You are also ignoring that companies are pretty much forgoing any thought towards fighting game button setup at all and in the future most controllers will likely suck for fighting games and you'll need third party products. If you don't like the GC button setup, then you might want to bail out while you still can.

Also, if your point of judging a controller is on how well it plays for fighting games, maybe you should vote for Capcom's own Street Fighter Anniversary pad, which is made entirely for its own fighting game and yet controls worse than some cheapo $15 third party PS2 pads.

As for part 2.. I already made a comment on that. Seriously, what were you doing with the controller while playing?

I like how the 3D0 one had an earphone jack on it. I've wanted one of them on just about every controller since.

edit: wth is wrong with that guy's hand, he's only got 3 fingers? ouch

Yeah redefined is a better term. Copying sounds so dirty. :lol

Really I don't know how much more they can give us. Nintendo is going all out with somethin really out there. I dunno what to think,I guess I need to see that one game-that system seller being played with it to come to a conclusion on it. If I had it my way though, and I know this isn't reinventing the wheel here...I'd have it so that true force feedback wheels were a common thing for all consoles out there. It would at the least beef up the racing genre alot more. Yeah I know..makes no sense(the wheel is useless for other genres) but again the racing genre would benefit alot more from it.

Best of both worlds. Unless the only game you like is Capcom vs SNK.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this little gem:

Absolutely terrible for fighters.

but keep in mind fighting games were just becoming a genre when it came out. defintiely didnt have enough buttons, but honestly wasnt much worse than the genesis controller. i never minded holding it... then again i wasnt using full-grown hands at the time. id love to try playing 3DO again today.

gamecube and saturn pads mentioned as worst ever??

they both certainly have flaws but they are not even close to being the worst ever.

How come no one has mentioned Dual Shock or DS2? They are piece of shit for just about any game out there.

The "d-pad" buttons are horrible, the analog sticks sucks, the symbols for the action buttons are stupid. Sure it's easy to hold in your hand and there is lots of buttons so that you won't run out of them, but the controller sucks.

I love my Dukes, still the best console FPS controller IMO. The only thing that truly sucks about them is the placement of the black and white buttons.

I wish they'd release a duke sized 360 controller (with the 2 extra shoulder buttons).

See...I can understand not liking the GC controller (though your reasons are quite pathetic at best) but now I know you're an idiot.

Side note: Duke (while a monstrosity) doesn't deserve spot in the top 5. I'm not sure I would put it in the top 10.

Dumbest post of the year? Looks like we have a solid early contender.

wonder how this holds up these days, because it used to be "the greatest controller of all time" /mystepbrother

Hmmmmm...did that come in black? If so I think I broke one or two of those way back when.

Maybe you mean Tac-2?

That was a good stick. Could handle a whole lot of punishment thats for sure.

I remember wanting the U-Force and Turbo Touch back when I was younger.

I should have learned my lesson with the Power Glove...

I don't know, I really liked that. IIRC the switch implemented turbo if you needed rapid shots.

The Duke had so many laughable design problems that it makes defenders of it look like redneck jocks that refuse to admit something they love is now outdated.
Do you expect people to give you respect when you talk about how you have big hands? OOOooo! "I'm so special! I have gorilla fists!"
You're admitting your appeal is in the minority and the controller was designed toward a minority, a stupid move, hence a poor design.

Also, that hybrid N64 controller kicked ass, aside from the Z-button.

I don't like my PS2 DS2, it is the only pad i have ever know that could make
my hands hurt. Not even the old XBOX Pad managed to do that and i really do have small hands.
