The PS2 is far from dead - Huge install base leads to more cheaper price games for mass market.
Consumers are looking for more Wii Sports - sports games like baseball and golf sell more on Wii.
Exclusives still rule, and Wii rules exclusives - 11 exclusives for Wii (12 including RE4), similar for DS, X360 and PS3 not so close.
The common knowledge still applies - Million dollar exclusives, license properties, inexpensive games for Wii and DS(needs to strike a chord with audience though); make money.

Only they were. STALKER went past 1 mil I believe and the lowest selling game there sold 470k, so where are they? Hell not even WoW's there.

All this is in the other thread, but these numbers:

A) are only for games released from Mar 1, 2007 to Mar 1, 2008. Hence no Wii Play

B) are sold at retail numbers. That's why certain titles like Kane and Lynch are a lot lower than the numbers reported by their publishers (which are shipped numbers).

EDIT:

C) EU numbers are only for Western Europe. So games like Witcher and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. which were hits in Russia and the Eastern Block countries get short-changed.

Alright so Ratchet and Uncharted didn't do as badly as most people thought. Not amazing, but certainly enough to recoup investment, I'd think. Though, TBH, I expected Uncharted numbers a little higher.

Ya im sure Sony isnt to thrilled either. I honestly think this year will be good though, maybe 5 - 1 million+ sellers (MGS, LBP, Killzone, Resistance, GT P) off the top of my head.

I can't remember the number insomniac commented on/gave for R&C but was sure it would be pass that especially for these combined regions. Also can't believe Gow2 only sold that much in comparison to bioshock and mass effect. Not the same genre sure but it's quite popular and had since february I think it was on quite a wide base.

Interesting that there are only 3x X360 exclusives in the top 100 period. (and this was the year where Sony "had no games")

wow, the last PGR sold nothing I guess, or less than #100. It really was passed up.

Anyway, skate sold a lot more than I thought, hope the sequel is at least equal on PS3. Burnout Paradise sold less than I thought, but it has only been 3 months.

Oh and for the Tony Hawk thing, it was on WAY more platforms, fuck that franchise.

LOL @ NFS, more of the same coming I guess.

It probably did on the two platforms both games were released on. Tony Hawk just happened to have a PS2, Wii and DS release along with its 360/PS3 release.

To be fair, the Orange box sold pretty well considering how crowded the the FPS market was on the 360 in the second half of 2007 (Bioshock, Halo 3, COD4, etc).

Halo as an IP is a freaking powerhouse.

It will take years for another (anyone) exclusive/stand-alone game to reach that.

Anyoe has the data about the next best selling game after halo 3 to be exclusive/standalone?

it has to be wii-play right? people buy 2 or 3 of them.

Wow! It only took 7 months for Zelda: Phantom Hourglass to reach 2 million copies and it hasn't been a year (Oct. 1st, 'o8) yet.


I hope we get a sequel to Phantom Hourglass in the near future. :D
