Top GBA Games?

DCX

DCX
I need a top 10 or 15 GBA games. I'm looking to enhance my GBA library and i really want some of GAF's opinions on this matter, thx in advanced :)

DCX

Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls
Wario Ware Twisted
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Mario & Luigi
Marios
Pokemonz

Both Advance Wars
Both Fire Emblems
Zelda: Minish Cap
Wario Ware and Twisted
Metroid Zero Mission and Fusion
Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga
One of the Megaman Battle Networks (don't know which is the best one anymore)

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Mario Kart: Super Circut
DK: King of Swing

I hear the GBA Grand Theft Auto was pretty damn good..

Advance Wars (2)
Fire Emblem
Metroids
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
Mario Kart
Wario Ware (Twisted)
River City Ransom
Yoshi's Island
Zelda Minish Cap

I always have to lol at the GBA "good games" lists (which I agree with) because it reminds me that 99.9% of the library is utter filth.

Which is a shame given that it's such a great handheld.

Are you looking for original content, games to play on the go or both?
Both. How are those Fire Emblems games and which type of RPGs do they play like?

the FE games are Strategy RPGS. The series most similar to FE is Shining Force (although it's a direct ripoff of FE. Fire Emblem is the series that invented the console SRPG genre, which Shining Force, FF Tactics, Ogre Battle, and so many others take after).

Man i wish you didn't say that. I have never gotten into strategy RPGs. I have tried to stay away from, i have no idea why. Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactic's Orge, Suidoken sp? all the same...i hope if i give it a try the genre bias will hold me from enjoying it.

I think it will. Most people I know, even those who don't usually like SRPGS, love FE.

Some people don't like the sytem, though. (If one of your characters dies, he's gone for good for the rest of the quest. No reviving characters)

Wow harsh, i'll give it a try.

it was extremly good.

i mean it's not going to cure aids and cancer or anything but it's one of my favorite gba games. goty 2004 for me too.

I'm not big into RPGs, so I'll leave that to everyone else here. :)

Action:

-Gunstar Super Heroes- Awesome sequel to the Genesis classic. Well-done all around; I'm not a big fan of the overhead shooting stage, however.

-Astroboy: The Omega Factor- Like GSH, Astroboy is an incredibly well done action/shooting game from Treasure.

-Advance Guardian Heroes- I have a love/hate relationship with this game...it's NOWHERE near as good as Guardian Heroes was, but it's also a very different game, is very challenging, and has great replay value.

-Double Dragon Advance- The best classic-style beat-em-up game released this generation, period. An excellent recreation of the orginal arcade game, with new stages/enemies from DD2, and moves taken from every game in the series. A must-buy if you like the genre.

Fighting:

-Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper- Still an impressive port of the game to the GBA; certainly not perfect, but developer Crawfish managed to squeeze in the entire roster, plus Yun, Eagle, and Maki from CvS2, into the game, along with a large amount of voices, all the ISMs, and even dramatic battle modes. Some of the characters even have animations missing from the PSX port of the game.

-The King of Fighters EX2- The first EX game sucked, but the sequel plays almost exactly like KOF 2000. The roster is a little on the small side for a KOF game, but it plays very well and has three new characters.

-Guilty Gear X Advance Edition- Doesn't look as good as the other two fighters, but plays great and animates very well. The game even has team battle and tag battle modes that the other GG games are still lacking in.

Platform:

-Dragonball Advance Adventure (import)- Well-done platformer based on the original (as in Goku as a child; no Z drag-on battles here) Dragonball story. Some boss fights are done fighting game-style, and the game play mimics the battles from the series, with air combos and huge fireballs.

-Mario Advance series- You pretty much know what to expect here. :)

Puzzle:

-Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo- Has a bit of a bad reputation of the GBA due to some bugs; my copy has never crashed, but a lot of people have had the game's memory get erased for no reason whatsoever. Despite this bug, Puzzle Fighter is a great port overall.

-Panel De Pon/Dr. Mario (import)- This recent release contains two great puzzle games in one cart, for about $20. Definitely worth it.

Adventure:

-Castlevania: Aria Of Sorrow- The other two GBA Castlevania games are good too, but AoS approaches the same level of quality as SOTN. A must-buy.

-Metroid Zero Mission- Awesome remake of the original Metroid with more areas to explore than the original game.

-The Legend of Zelda: LttP- Great port of the SNES classic.

-The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap- I'm currently playing through this game right now...it may end up beating out Link's Awakening as my favorite GB Zelda game.

-Shining Soul II- Fun dungeon crawler with a variety of characters to play as. I sold this off a while back and I really miss it right now. :(

Racing:

-Mario Kart Super Circuit- Not only does the game have a bunch of brand new stages, but you also get all the classic courses from the original SNES game!

-F-Zero Final (import...I think this is the right name)- The third F-Zero GBA game; contains some challenging courses, a large number of cars, and a track editor(!).

Two games i know very little about. I will try them out.

DCX

both Fire Emblems
both Advance Wars
the 3 Castlevanias
Pokemon Emerald
Minish Cap
Metroid Zero Mission

The GBC (not GBA) Metal Gear Solid is actually an amazing little game, and well worth tracking down. I would also recommend any of the Gradius games, if you like shmups. They are ideal games for handhelds.

Metrod Fusion
Metroid Zero Mission
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Fire Emblem
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Those are my personal favorites for the system. Gunstar Super Heroes was fun, but pretty short (but fun). Riviera: The Promise Land can be really drawn out and unappealing if you aren't a fan of RPGs.

This thread happens like once a month.

Astro Boy
Metroid Fusion
Castlevania Circle of the Moon
Fire Emblem
Advance Wars
Metroid Zero Mission
Wario Ware
Wario Ware Twisted
Mario vs Donkey Kong

Personal faves:

---> Final Fantasy IV Advance (soon to be #1)
1. Pokemon Emerald / Sapphire / Ruby
2. Pokemon Leaf Green / Fire Red
3. Fire Emblem
4. Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
5. Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3
6. Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2
7. Super Mario Advance
8. Super Mario Bros. 3: Super Mario Advance 4
9. Donkey Kong Country
10. Wario Ware Inc.: Mega Micro Games

Kinda liked DK: King of Swing too. Easy controls, yet pretty hard further on. Kept me busy for a few weeks.

If you can get it: Castlevania: HoD and AoS.

check out mr. driller 2 as well. I am currently totally digging it on my GBM. Never ever playes such a hard game! Just finished NORMAL mode this week end (started playing it in june)
currently trying to beat the difficult mode - but....... don't know if I EVER beat that mode.

so if you are looking for a long lasting game, take it :)

other than that, try:
- golden sun 1 + 2
- fire emblem: sacred stones
- bubble bobble old & new
- advance wars 1 + 2
