Top-level COD competitions look like what we expect

Why is CoD even an e-sport? the game takes no skill whatsoever, especially on console where it almost aims for you.

Is it hard to understand that some players are much better than others? If there was absolutely no skill shouldn't every game end in a draw?

It's civilized at most "professional tourneys" for most games (even COD). Especially if sponsor money is involved.

They said this was sponsored.. he even mentioned a million dollars in the video.

Dont be a fool its been clear for years that COD is so popular online is because the skill level is very narrow.. you have to be really terrible to be terrible.. while there isnt much to being good. Also the game dosnt end in a draw cause its more paper rock scissors with peoples different load outs and such.

Compare it to something like Quake 3 where the skill levels are very broad and some people can be absolutely god like.

As an older competitive Counter-Strike player this pisses me off. Sounds just like my little brother and his friends when they're on XBOX playing CoD. I remember the days of CoD1+2... the days of CAL and leagues for FPS games that were serious and professional. This is just sad.

And LOL at a tournament for CoD. Might as well pull names out of a hat.

No skill is obviously an exaggeration, but the skill ceiling is lower than in other games. And the lower the skill ceiling, the lower the respect for any given game, that's how it generally goes in the competitive scene.

Reading the comments, I thought this was going to be way worse than it was.

Didn't seem any different than most sports stuff. Only this is in a small room, and everyone is really close to each other. I didn't see anything absolutely outrageous. Is it appropriate, becoming behavior? No. But I also don't see this as like "the black hole of humanity".

Also, it's a supercut. I don't know how the entire match looked.

What do you expect from kids playing such an undemanding game? They gotta keep their young minds occupied somehow and acting out is an easy way to blow off excess energy. This wouldn't happen if they played a game that demands skill and concentration like Q3A.

Thank you. I was really getting at the exageration you speak of. I can play COD and dominate online some nights then I'll play against my nephew and he absolutely embarrasses me. A completely different level.

I would definitely say that there's some mind games going on here. I know for certain that a barrage of insults directed at me affects my judgement in competitive play, and most often for the worse. That being said, it kinda looks out of control in this instance.

Obviously 'no skill' is a slight exaggeration.

But if you compare it to other competitive games that require aiming precision and positioning, call of duty becomes a complete joke.
After you compare it to other games, the exaggeration becomes apt.

gamepad in high level play? do they allow auto aim on or something?

The shittiness of the auto-aim is greatly amplified by the fact that the guns have minimal recoil so the victor of each confrontation at matching skill levels is always going to be whoever pressed LT first. Halo for all the shit it gets at least required skill when it came to handling weapons. Call of Duty is basically laser tag on steroids.

Been involved (as a player and as an admin) is competitive play in several different PC games and in-person events were never like this in my experience, aside from the odd random idiot.

I should mention that whenever I play(ed), I was (and still am) the primary chirper in our group, though I usually push buttons in a... slightly more refined and tailored manner.

Fucking disgusting console gamers. This is is so unprofessional! Esport should only be on PC and never be seen on console again.

COD and dota are the toilets of gaming.
You spelled League of Legends incorrectly. You're also missing Mario Kart, but I don't blame you. I'll never understand why a luck based game has such a huge "competitive" following.

So it's only skill if the weapons recoil like an idiot...?

Doesn't that make it much harder to excel?

Comments like these in the video show how immature and dumb a lot of players and the gaming community can be. I wonder if thats why gaming can still receive so many backslash without fighting back, like it being the cause for murderers, etc...

This is kinda assuming that the opposing players are always facing each other on every encounter with targets pre-aimed at each other.

Those not how shooting games work. Surly things like:
• Map awareness
• Team positioning
• sneaking behind the enemy
• etc

all still count. Its one element of the game that works a bit different and suddenly its "lol consoles".

Some people are strange.

gg is the equivalent of a handshake at the end of a regular sports game.

I got into an argument with some people about this.

In the case of an absolute slaughter outside of a structured competitive environment (a "pugstomp" or just a clan/ladder/guild match where one side is really outgunned), I usually don't say "gg", because it can come across as patronizing and insincere. I definitely use it for the close matches and for matches in more "official" play, or if I lose, but when I win in a more relaxed/informal context, I use a little more discretion and sometimes flesh it out with a sporting comment instead of just dropping the abbreviation. ymmv.

However, at its core, yes, it is the handshake equivalent. :p

Uh, okay, they're really talking a lot of trash when playing COD, kind of like what I run into while playing online. I was expecting something more interesting.

Why are they jumping up and yelling at the other team? Is it just because they are mad that they lost, or do they think the other team cheated?

I can't understand 3/4s of the shit they are saying because they are so lividly angry and screaming at the same time.

However.

Judging from the experience you get playing online it's not that i was expecting much more.

Real Sports would get as ugly if referees would not punish that kind of behaviour.

These guys are more busy screaming British obscenities then communicating with their team about map awareness and strategy.

Even the little bit of play you saw on the video was pretty bad.

They were just running out into the middle of a field, and firing on some guy, positioning went out the window long ago.

Don't you worry, the comment is now at +42. I don't understand why Gaben has so many followers. He isn't even charismatic.

Yes because PC guys play with a cigar in mouth and a glass of brandy in hand.

Please.

Perhaps not, but competitive Dota, LoL, and Starcraft sure as hell don't look like this, if only due to the age gap and those games having more of a history of serious play.

And why are you basing these things on a 'little bit of play'. All the shouting and stuff is when a match ends or after a death or something. The video showed little gameplay, not enough to judge these guys skills.

Im not talking about the idiots in the video. Simply the people saying fps on console cant be competitive.
