Top-level COD competitions look like what we expect

this post is weird, you replied to every point but you didn't counter a single thing

yes COD is fun, we know that, it's just not designed for competition (as it's primary focus). And also, like any game, it takes a great deal of time investment to be the best, what others are saying is that you hit that skill ceiling sooner than in other games.
I went back and forth with him 3 times and he still didn't counter the initial point I brought up with him.

It's frustrating.
Too bad MOBAs have some of the most toxic playerbases in gaming today.

Somebody flames me in lol I can report them and they'll get banned.

The playerbase in cod is something else.
im just repeating what ive been told...CoD is easy...so we should have some world class CoD champions in here...

How would you extrapolate somebody saying anyone can win to mean that they think they'd win consistently?

i can appreciate some good shit talk in sports and in games but these idiots are just screaming sweet nothings at each other

if i did this when i was a kid my dad might kick my ass
Good shit talk is not easy! These are mere amateur shit talkers.

ive answered you 3 times...frankly it becomes a question of comprehension at this point...

because one person said "anyone can win" and i say that is an excuse for not being good at it....

everyone else is simply saying how easy the game is...

If the game is easy, why does this mean they would win?

It would at that point be random.

If the game is easy and millions play, anyone can win. This means it would be a game of chance.

I promise you I understand what you're saying. You're just not saying anything that goes against my point.

I'll point out again that I don't believe this thing, I just find your argument lacking and struggle to understand how you think the way you do.

and im saying that is FALSE...period...simply haters hating...
OK, I think I understand, you think there is a substantial difference between somebody thinking the game is easy and somebody thinking that anyone can win.

Apologies for the misunderstanding. Most people would find these two ideas to be linked, and you do not.

Sorry for my inability to see where you're coming from.

What's up with the guy trying to justify it as "amazing?" Fighting game players are infamous for talking shit and even defend it as their "culture," but they don't hop around and swear at each other on stage. Enthusiasm isn't automatically a good thing.

That. The thing is, look at pretty much any other "eSport" and, no matter how big the prize they just missed out on, people are almost always shaking hands and happily standing next to each other on stage as the top finishers are announced, etc.

You can't compare things that these guys say to the general playerbase, because these guys are "professionals" which means they're accountable to a higher standard. Nor can you excuse this by saying that "real" athletes trash talk all the time. "Real" athletes are kept on a very tight leash when cameras are on them. Even Michael Jordan is said to have been a notorious trash talker. Yet it's not like he'd get up on the podium and start spewing shit or go call out the opposing team after hitting a game-winning shot. Athletes talking like that with the cameras rolling lead to all sorts of problems and/or fines.

I expected the unprofessional and immature rage...

But I still can't get over people playing a competitive FPS event with... gamepads.

That's like having a Formula 1 race where they make the drivers steer with their feet.

Not much of an issue when the car does 95% of the steering itself.

yes...i interpret easy as accessible...easy to pick up, play and enjoy...but not a complete coin flip in regards to outcome

Funny how behavior like in OPs vid seems to be exclusive to the West. I'm usually relegated to Japanese lobbies, and it's been a fine experience so far, 500 hours in MW3 (PS3) and counting. Just dudes having fun with the game.

inb4 no one has mics on PS3

Because nobody said that.

really??...

They do, but there's more to competitive PC games than "Pull left trigger, pull right trigger". Getting angry and making an ass of yourself over such a simplistic game is hilarious.

How on earth are there competitions for it?

No offense, as I played a shitload of Quake back in the day.. but watching that is like watching paint dry. I know there's skill involved, but a lot of it is just knowing the maps very well and knowing the spawn routines and anticipating movement.

What I don't get is the CoD haters who give the game shit for being "easy-mode" when it's really just made to have fun with.. you know.. a game.

If you can't enjoy popping in and playing a few matches for fun, then just ignore it.

You can't be serious. However well players know the map and anticipate movement there is still a lot of variability and aim makes a massive difference. Watch this game and tell me its less entertaining than watching COD.

Except "pull left trigger, pull right trigger" is something that actually happens in Call of Duty. "Point and click" isn't something that happens in PC games because your crosshair is always in the center of the screen, so it's not even a remotely valid criticism.

To be fair, the infamous "Snap to Target" feature that results from Pull Left Trigger, Pull Right trigger is only in Campaign and Zombies. In PvP it just gives you aim down sights, and more aim assist/magnetism/adhesion.

CoD is a joke even in the category of low tier Competitive Console FPS, but it has the most people playing, so it is competitive due to the sheer fact of the highest player population.

I thought i'd see something bad in the OP, but it was pretty much just a bunch of teens spamming the word "fuck" repeatedly.

*shrugs*

you know damn well thats not what was being referred to. pulling the triggers was used completely to say the game is "easy"

oh, and you still tried to say NOBODY said it...

Still boring as fuck, not that watching CoD is all that more entertaining.

Honestly, I find just about all eSports incredibly boring to watch.

Controller method is slightly overrated as well.. back in the day my friend Dave was one of the highest ranked players in Quake players back in the day using JUST a fucking keyboard. It took him forever to switch to using a mouse.

It was slightly disturbing watching him play.

I can use both, started using KBM when it first even became an option... but prefer controller these days.

I'm glad PC players aren't like this or we'd be seeing people trying to say TF2 is an eSport.

Epsilon drops Impact (Team in 2nd Video)

We strive day after day to assure an additional dimension to eSports. Since 2006, we have worked, like others before us, to bring a degree of professionalism to our domain and to create a set of rules followed by all.

We must lead by example for the next generation. We have the chance to live our passions and we must thank our fans & the public for this privilege as we would not be here today without them and their support.

Regardless of how a player may outplay another, there must be an understanding that he is studied and analysed by all, just as any other celebrity.
Upon the recruitment of Impact, we were conscious of the issues of their public image, and tried to set a base of acceptable behavior by speaking with the line-up. Regardless of their attitudes towards nV being amicable & trash talk having a place in every sport, the public’s response was justifiably negative towards the overall behavior of the squad.

It is thus with regret that today we must release the American Call of Duty line-up due to a lack of professional discipline during the Black Ops 2 tournament at UMG AtLANtA 2013.

Impact is composed of great, sociable players who are, once you look past the game, good people. However, we must maintain a standard of excellence and professionalism. The world of eSports will not only be advanced by inter-organizational relationships, but also the image that we present to our fans and the rest of the world.

I would like to personally thank Chris, Adam, Marcus and John for their brief stay with Epsilon. They know that we do not hold anything against them and that we enjoyed our short time together. We have obligations, standards that our players must abide to, and no amount of talent can allow those principles to be broken.

We would like to offer our apologies to @TeamEnVyUs, @UMGGAMING, @elgatogaming, and our sponsors @BurnControllers, @TeamRazer and particularly to the public.

We love the Call of Duty scene, and will continue to support it in the future.

Finally, we would like to wish the best of luck to Impact in the future and to congratulate them on securing a 3rd place standing at UMG AtLaNtA.

As someone who follows competitive FPS console gaming this is the quickest I've seen a team dropped after an event for trash talking. Props to Epsilon.

I'm glad PC players aren't like this or we'd be seeing people trying to say TF2 is an eSport.

PC FPS eSports have suffered the same missteps, a lot of leagues jumped on to newer, less competitively viable titles because there was sponsor money behind it. How many different leagues that focused on PC FPS games crumbled because they removed quality titles and added shit like F.E.A.R. and Quake 4 instead of continuing to run CS 1.6 and Quake 3. It's the same shit everywhere.

At least the PC gaming community at large stays true to the great games, console FPS gamers jump to the new shit even if they don't really like it. Console cycles, online infrastructure being ignored or completely shut down doesn't help the situation. But, if console gamers stuck with the games they love, instead of moving on to the latest big release, then maybe their favorite games would stay supported.

whaT in the fuck? this has to be the worst post i've ever read

yup because we all know the pc gamer is the master race........

You all need to read further in the thread to understand, there are a lot more posts. Its clearly not the best post reflecting what I mean.

Besides I have not seen any level of professionalism at any console LAN I have been to. If you can show me somewhere there has been(other than fighting games evo) maybe on youtube I would love to see it.

Whenever I played Halo 3 with my friends online, I remember getting pretty mad at times, but in a frustrated sort of way, not in a "let's scream at the competition" way.

When that one idiot gestured towards his crotch and said: "I'm the fucking daddy, man," it made me realise why gamers get such a bad reputation.

The saddest thing about this video is that these fools aren't shouting down a telephone line to somebody across the world, they're not hidden behind a veil of anonymity. They're screaming and being aggressive to people 10 feet away.

I honestly believe it's more because of the game attracting certain people rather than the genre (see TF2) or console (see others).

Ok, but are they really pros? I always figured they were playing competetively as a hobby, rather than actually making a living out of esports, like say sc2-players and dota-players are. I would be very surprised to find that people who actually expect to make a living out of esports are talking like this.

So did anyone watch the video until the end? You guys never ever swear? Watch it till the end for the final words of the author and think about it.

Never ever. Why would you swear, especially on the internet of all places where everyone will read it? Rude.
