Top Thrill Dragster/Millennium Force

I just remembered something...

The day after graduation, my senior class took a trip to Cedar Point. I was so looking forward to the trip because I hadn't ridden Millennium Force or Top Thrill Dragster (or Raptor, or Mantis, or Wicked Twister now that I think about it). So I was ready to hop in the first line I saw.

Near the end of the day, most of us headed in the direction of Millennium Force. After we got to the line, some people decided that they didn't want to ride it for their own personal reasons--if I had to guess, I'd probably say it was due to extreme fright. :)

Well, after we all got into the train, it then began its surprisingly swift ascent to the first hill. OMG! That first drop is something else! :D The speed doesn't let up throughout the entire ride (...and each and every time we sped towards a tunnel, it was funny to see all of us lower our hands as if they would have been chopped off or something :)).

I say it's the #1 ride at the park.

After that, we all went to Dragster. We almost didn't ride it because it malfunctioned right as we were about to get into the train. Fortunately, it only suffered a 10-minute downtime...and they announced that it was backup right as we were about to get out of line.

I have to admit: I was pretty nervous when our train was about to be launched. :) It was that "aw shit" feeling that felt good, but kinda strange at the same time.

The launch is the most spectacular aspect of the ride...because at the top of the hill, and while spiraling down, I was still reeling from that amazing launch. I wish the ride was longer, though.

I didn't get a chance to ride Wicked Twister.

If I had to rank (what I rode), they'd go like this (all positive):

1. Millennium Force
2. The Raptor
3. Top Thrill Dragster
4. The Mantis

Damn, you're lucky. I love coasters. I'm on the west coast though, so I have Magic Mountain and Knott's and that's about it. I thought the one at Buffalo Bill's in Nevada was pretty wicked, and definitely one of my favorites, but I'd seen that Top Thrill Dragster on the internet. SHIT! That's insane. I actually don't know if I'd have the balls to go on that thing.

Sadly, I didn't get a chance to ride Millennium Force (insanely long line), but Top Thrill Dragster was insane. You blink and you miss it, but it is an incredible experience. The look on people's faces as they are coming back into the station is priceless.

Wicked Twister is also pretty fun, but there isn't much to it. Mantis was the only coaster there that managed to make me sick. I did not like having to stand up the entire time, especially after standing in the line for a good half an hour or so.

Cedar Point is an amazing place, I can't wait to go back :D

We're blessed. We have Cedar Point AND Geagua Lake (formerly known as Six Flags Worlds of Adventure) :)

I've only been to Cedar Point twice: once when I was in 8th grade and this past Tuesday.

I grew up in Sandusky, Ohio and my family had a house on the causeway. Try being a nice 20 minute walk away from Cedar Point during the summer. SPOILED

EDIT: I worked there for 4 years also. Great experience. :D

Agreed. A 2hr (or less) drive to Sandusky is something most of us take for granted. And hell, the Beast is still kickin too, even though it's nowhere near as fast as it was when I was a kid.

Yeah, I hear ya. It's too bad tho that Top Thrill Dragster breaks down all the damn time.:(

Cedar Point is a whole lotta fun, but I much prefer Kennywood. Wooden coasters and water rides are more my forte, not this newfangled stuff.

I hear that from a lot of people, but when I went it was running most of the time. I must say one of the funniest things about that ride is when you're standing in line and see the big sign that says "Sometimes the trains may not clear the top hat. THERE IS NO NEED FOR ALARM! The trains will simply roll back down backwards and into the station." I was almost wishing, while standing in line, that one of them wouldn't clear the hill.

My trip was originally supposed to three days, but we only ended up getting to go one and a half. We fit in every roller coaster except the Millennium Force and the Corkscrew I think. The second day when we got there it was so foggy you couldn't even see the top of the Top Thrill Dragster, but they were still running it. I thought it would have been really cool to ride then, but we didn't get a chance because it started storming. I honestly think more people were screaming when it started storming than when they were on the rides.

Don't forget King's Island in Cincinatti and Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville. A lot of coaster choices in the area.

Nothing beats riding the coasters in the pitch black of night looking off in the moonlit horizon with the cool fall breezes coming off the lake. Halloweeked is THE BEST time to go to Cedar Point. THE BEST.

I can remember when King's Island was the place to go because Cedar Point was a trash heap. It wasn't well taken care of at all. Then, around 1990 Cedar Fair really started kicking it up a notch both in terms of park appearance and coaster goodness and things changed very quickly. Paramount buying KI probably helped a hell of a lot too.

Last time I went to Cedar Point, a couple of weeks ago, I waited in line for the Millenium Force for 1 1/2 hours, and I'm literally 3 more cars away from getting on, and it starts to pour :( I still haven't ridden it.

Though I did get to go on the Dragster and the Twister... the Twister is really underappriciated, it's so much fun, and since it's out of the way the line is really short. Try to go on the front or back, depending on where you are on the car the ride is quite different.

Yeah, the Twister is a lot of fun, and I love it's location. Just a few feet from the lake :D I think I got somewhere in the middle though. Oh well, it was still fun.

Yeah, the middle is okay, cause all 5 'turns' on it are about equal. If you get the front though, you go the highest and get the most spins, but when you go backwards you barely get high. If you're in the back, you realize how high you really get, but don't get as many spins.

Yeah, I wish I would have went for an end, but it's too late now.

Would you believe that out of all the bad ass coasters they have and that my friends and I rode, the ride that scared them the most was... Power Tower. We went on the side that shot you up first, and I'm just sitting there laughing while they're freaking out. Then we went on the side that shoots you down, and again I was just enjoying the ride and they're freaking out even more than they did on the other side.

I went to Cedar Point two summers ago and loved it all. Millenium Force really kicked ass. That was such a rush of adrenaline, it was unbelievable. I really want to go back there for Top Thrill Dragster, but I'm not sure when I'll get the chance. Maybe next summer.

The Power Tower freaked out my friend too. Just because you go so high with nothing in front of you, you REALLY get a feeling of how high you are (which you might not get in roller coasters because there's usually someone in front of you, and a cart under you). I remember placing my hat on the little platform they have for you on the power tower, and while waiting for it to drop me, I leaned over to see my hat, and it was a dot. That was an awsome view.

Ill usually ride anything but the Millenium Force and Top Thrill will probably make me think twice. Looks like scary fun though. I will put this on my places to visit list before I die. I wish there were rides like that here at Astroworld.

definetly the best park in america for coasters... haven't been on the dragster yet, but I love mill force... Holding yer hands up while on that thing is pure bliss :)
