A Tory politician has been labelled a ”homophobe" and ”bully" after comments regarding gay Jews.

Anthony Spencer wrote a letter to the Jewish News in December 2016, in which he described himself as a traditional Jew and gay people as having ”unorthodox practices".

He subsequently compared opponents to Stasi, the German secret police.

The letter:

Two councillors have now lodged official complaints with the council and the Conservative Party.

He should be 'forced' from his job.

If "go forth and multiply" were purely about sexual reproduction then the Israelites are reduced purely to their genealogy, and not, say, other cultural practices that seem to be equally as valuable or important. I mean, I don't know shit about the torah, but it seems like a somewhat common-sense reading that the phrase would be about the propagation of a tribe or cultural identity in general, which gay people certainly can (and have) contributed to. At least something would seem to be missing from the idea of Jews that are so by lineage, but not by socialization or cultural learning.

"fashionable social pressures to accept the unacceptable".

Well he's not concealing that he himself is a bigot.

Quite right. Bigotry may have been accepted a little too readily in recent months, but despite such pressures, we should not accept it.

That's the 'unacceptable' he's referring to, right? Right?
