Oh god, we’ve been jingoed… Self-loathing aside, ***** has watched the Internet games community with interest and amusement over the past few days. We have read ongoing speculation talking of a major announcement about to rock the world, originally slated for today, the fifth anniversary of the Game Boy Advance and GameCube showings of SpaceWorld 2000.

It even came to be known as “WednesdayTon!!11one!!11!”. Really. In some circles, it’s being changed to “ThursdayTon!!11!one1!!”

Here is what is actually happening. We contacted Nintendo today. There is no major hardware or software announcement going to made. There is, however, a party being held in London tomorrow. “We are inviting everyone along to have a drink and a mingle and learn all about our plans over the Christmas period. There will be a speech by NOE president Satoru Shibata but there will be no significant hardware or software announcements.”

So there you have it. Or don’t. Nintendo’s party will be Christmas-themed and sounds like a great deal of fun – We might even take photographs while we’re there and post them on Friday. But you won’t be finding out anything worthy of slapping Ton on the end of a word.

Shame really.
