TOTK is easily a 10/10 with the Switch 2 upgrade

Revisiting this game with the Switch 2 upgrade and I'm hooked all over again

I forgot how incredible this game is

My only criticism of this game initially was that it would be even better if it ran at 60 fps

Now that it is running at 60 fps, this game is pretty much perfect

The game also visually looks even more stunning now and load times are pretty much gone

Can't wait to see what the next Zelda is going to look like

Tears of the Kingdom will be the first game from my old Switch library I revisit when I get my hands on a S2. Put in over 100 hours. Loved it. But performance wasn't great, especially using Ultra hand, and load times were quite annoying due to using fast travel so much. But with S2 I reckon it will become my favorite Zelda game of all time.

Nah,. They should have improved lod and draw distances. You still have vegetation popin 5m in front of you. Its just higher res and runs better, but it still has visual flaws. Its kinda funny because I gave my friend to try it handheld and she said " i thought it would look better"

I played it on Yuzu, so I got a far superior experience than most people. I am glad I played it, but I simply don't consider these Zelda games to be truly all time greats. They are fun, but weapon degredation is and will always be the big sticking point with me.

Game's fun but quite far from what I'd consider a good Zelda game, not to say a 10/10.

I don't know man, the thing with TotK is, if you love Zelda but dislike building or getting creative you're quite out of luck. Most of the puzzle require a bit of effort and the rewards are too often very poor.

My main problem with the game is the effort/reward ratio is very disappointing.

Seeing as how the first time I played it was on Ryujinx at 4k 60 fps, the game is dog shit totally overrated trash even worse than BotW. At least that game was an entirely new piece of content, unlike TotK which should have been a fucking DLC.

Large portions of the depths are pointless and I was one of the sensible people only really going down there after finding each treasure map. But the ending is so much better than BOTW.

The rebuilding of the land is so much shitter than BOTW though.

I still haven't played my Switch 1 copy. My Switch backlog is massive and depressing. Not getting a Switch 2 any time soon though so I got plenty of Switch games to play in the meantime.

This is just emotional venting, not criticism

Why is it "dogshit"? What exactly failed in the gameplay, design, systems, or narrative?

This is not critique, it's just a tired, uninformed hot take pretending to be insight

No DLC in history. not Blood and Wine, not The Shivering Isles, not The Old Hunters has had this scope, complexity, and systemic ambition. And those were masterpiece DLCs. TotK dwarfs them

It was 10/10 on Yuzu with an item durability mod 2 years ago, but yea - it deserves better than Switch 1 hardware, for sure.

Hinox hunting with Zelda Notes is a pleasure. Made it a breeze upgrading the Soldier Armor. I also like the added lore from Zelda, Rauru, and others when visiting locations.

I havent got the upgrade yet but I LOVED TotK on original Switch, I guess on Switch 2 I'm gonna love it even more.

8/10 until weapons stop breaking.
There are mods on Cemu and Yuzu allowing weapons to last forever. The game becomes worse as a result.

I do think the weapons don't last long enough. I used a mod that increases their durability by 10x. It makes the game so much more fun to play. You don't have to worry about damaging the weapon just because you took a swing at a tree to chop it down.

6/10 because Weapon Durability is lame, Plot points repeated 4 multiple times for each Sage, Tears/memories, Ultrahand/Autobuilder while fun breaks any sense of threat or progression, Shrine collectathon.

Much prefer the OoT/TP format over LoZ: Fallout Edition.

To be fair I realy like comments like that, its how I base my opinions on games, Im not one to read some long hype, I like a quick sharp take.

When a new game comes out, lets say GTA6, I will look for a short few min review on youtube and if they come at me like "yo whats good my big dawgs hope yo staying lit out there on road. Heres my review on GTA6: My Gs this is some dawg shit because it is, thanks for watching ring that bell, subscribe and pour 1 out for all the fallen fellons out there", im 100% staying away from that trash and coming straight over here, X and Reddit to spread that shit.

I played so much BOTW that when TOTK came out I felt fatigued by it. Literally the only Zelda game I couldn't get myself to finish.

Agreed. I never finished it on the original Switch so grabbed the Switch 2 version and started from scratch. It's a great game, I just wish I had more time to sink into it.

You and me both my man, I miss those games a lot.

I don't even care about weapon durability, and even think it can be cool since it forces you to use different weapons instead of always the same one. For me the problem with TOTK is more about the Nuts & Bolts mechanics and how dumb all the fused weapons look, that shit really takes me out of the medieval-fantasy setting. But yeah, the disjointed story being told via flashbacks isn't doing the game any favors either, just like the repetitive challenges like the stranded koroks or that dude that's incapable of setting up a sign.

I kinda liked BOTW tho, specially at the beggining where the game's actually challenging. Thing is the game becomes piss easy very fast and there's barely anything to do it in besides walking around finding koroks. Imo all they had to do was add a "stomach meter" to limit the amount of food you can eat in a set period of time, limiting your healing capabilities would have done wonders to that game. Also remove the witch time, this isn't Bayonetta.

I bought it used and started playing it again and the upgrades are great but didn't make the game any more fun. I really don't like the crafting, etc. at all, which is why I stopped playing it about halfway through the first time.

I'm still on Botw, but these patched versions just make the game so much more enjoyable. Makes me smile when I think back to all the posts trying to dictate opinions that 60fps is a waste.

smug top gear GIF

Don't forget the terrible UI.

I think there is a lot to love about BOTW formula Zelda but for me it's a mixed bag and not my preference for the Zelda series. I only got half way through TOTK but I am interested in finishing it on the Switch 2 whenever I get one. Glad to hear the upgraded experience is compelling.

It's a game where its strength is also its weakness. The freedom is nice, but it can lead to a lot of time being wasted.

I don't doubt it, I already loved it on Switch (1).

I'm burned out on that version of Hyrule by now though.. Can't be bothered to play through it again after already doing BotW x2 and TotK x1.

I really hope they make a new map and, well, new everything, for the next installment.
