...If it's second, what's the best?

Of the people that don't rank it first, it's been my experience that a lot of people will say G1, but really my top series is Transformers Animated. I think if people hadn't been so turned off by the weird facial designs, it'd have been much more popular.

Two choices in my book: G1 or Animated. Maaaaybe Prime.

Animated I can see! G1... I tried to rewatch it a few years back. Some things are better left behind the haze of nostalgia.

Yeah, I do confess this. Comparing G1 to the others will always be impossible for me because the nostalgia is impossible to see through. But that's kind of true of Beast Wars, too.

Yeah. I love (love) G1, but it has objectively not aged well on most fronts, be they toys or media.

My personal ranking is as follows:

Animated
Beast Wars
Prime
Robots in Disguise
Beast Machines
G1
Cybertron
Energon
Herpes
Gonorrhea
Armada

Armada was so amazingly bad. There were some germs of good ideas in the show, but it was all buried under shitloads of terrible animation and translation errors. A lot of cool toys though, but also some terrible ones.

Animated's episodic nature ended up really hurting it in my book. They would come up with great ideas and characters only to drop all that the next episode. It got kind of boring "monster of the week" style after a while. When they would do extended plot lines, it was great though. I did appreciate all the love that went into that show. You can tell everyone on board really enjoyed working on it. Gave it a lot of heart.

As for Prime, Season 2 really salvaged itself in the second half. It was getting really boring for a while. Season 3 looks to have some great ideas. Predaking looks like a really credible threat, which will be awesome. If they can keep the good pacing of season 1 and second half of season 2, Beast Hunters could turn out great.

Is Prime as good as Beast Wars?

Sadly, not quite. It's good, but not Beast Wars good. It lacks a lot of the continuity of story and real threat Beast Wars had. Beast Wars just had a great story. TF:Prime's story and characters are really good and any TF fan should check it out, but nothing has reached Beast Wars level yet. Also, Prime has human characters you have to look passed to enjoy it. One in particular is quite annoying. She's gotten better, but still she takes a bit away from the show.

My order is pretty much :

1. Beast Wars
2. Animated
3. Prime

Prime's first two seasons were really decent, but I'm not getting my hopes up for this season. Animated is incredible. If you're holding out because of the animation style, don't. Awesome show!

I'm (re)watching the G1 eps now and most of the time it's a chore. As a TF fan I feel obliged to watch this entire series, so I'm soldiering on! Currently on s2's Dinobot Island, which is actually one of the better episodes so far. It has dino's, dinobots and cavemen on mammoths, so what's not to like. I'm looking forward to combiners/Omega Supreme and more to spice things up a little. There's some geeky stuff I enjoy, like Soundwave's ongoing battle with Brawn, and the various animation/voice acting errors. This for example is pure gold and the reason I keep watching. The next episode Prime calls him Pike XD
So far I'd say the movie is by far the best thing of the G1 era.

I wish they would have introduced the Dinobots before they went on this beast war story.

I mean, they already had the Insecticon(s)-kind of.

I think all three from the Unicron trilogy are utterly horrendous. And RiD sucks, too.

Here's my ranking:

G1- sacred nostalgia that cannot be judged against the others. My head knows it's not the best, but my heart vetoes it.

So really, the rankings begin here:

Animated - Probably the true best the series has ever been.

BW/M - I guess I'm giving BM a pass by counting it as the inferior final two seasons of BW.

Prime - I dig it. Include the novels and WFC/FOC and it surpasses Beast Wars to me, and nearly overtakes Animated.

RiD/Cybertron/Energon/Armada/Live Action Movies - Fuck 'em all.

(I guess that ranking is almost the same, actually)

The more I think about my rankings for RiD/BM/G1, the more I think I might alter them around, maybe G1/BM/RiD. Robots in Disguise I think I just remember fondly for being a return to form after years and years of Beast Wars/Beast Machines. I mean, I *liked* Beast Wars as a series, Beast Machines actually had some very cool toys (The show was a colossal step down from Beast Wars in practically every way save quality of the animation and maybe the soundtrack), but RiD was a return to form as I remembered it most fondly, a mix of new figures with redecos of older ones. Plus Skybyte was a moderately amusing character in the show.

But yeah, in retrospect, I'd probably rate it the least terrible show of the anime set.

OK, new list:

BEST SHOWS:
1.) Animated
2.) Beast Wars
3.) Prime
4.) G1
5.) Beast Machines
6.) RiD
7.) Cybertron
8.) Energon
9.) Go-Bots
10.) Armada

I'd do a list of best toylines, but I've been out of the collection scene since the conclusion of TF:Animated and the first movie. I still don't have TF:A Wing Comander Optimus, Arcee, Hot Rod, or Blackout, and likely never will : /

Wait, was Transformers: Animated, the one that had the human indian side kick?

People liked that show?

Yes? It was the best characterizations Transformers ever got, plus it was a really unique take on the mythos where Optimus wasn't supreme commander of the Autobots. It was constantly jam packed with references to other facets of the franchise, a lot of love went into that show. Everyone just got turned off by the unconventional character design.

Yep, Sari Sumdac. She's by far the least shitty "human sidekick" out of all the TF continuities.

Also, everything about Animated makes it the best version. People don't like the character design at first, I guess. But get past it and it's by far the best written.

In fact, once you get used to it, even the art style is great.
