Trap | Official Trailer

The new trailer definitely makes the dad seem guilty. It shows him deliberately setting traps/distractions that hurt people and interfereing with police. So either he is protecting his psycho daughter or he is the target.

That would be a decent twist if his daughter is the actual killer and that trailer is a huge misdirection :)

what would be an even bigger twist is if this was a stealth sequel to

I'm pretty intrigued by the trailer, but shamalamalan has burned me before, so gonna wait for reviews. If he can deliver a solid thriller with a nice ending, I'm in. The premise of this film is pretty dope.

As soon as the Black dude said "there's a killer and he's going to be here" I was like "oh the twist will be it's the dad"

And then they just showed it in the trailer lol, what's the fucking point. So it's going to be the daughter and the dads covering.

Watch how it's The daughter is the killer and the dad is just covering for her.

There’s also a rare chance that there is no twist, and M Night just wanted to create a cool story about a serial killer protagonist who has to somehow survive and escape an elaborate trap set at a concert arena.
Looking at reviews, this seems to be the case. Alas it seems like it isn't that clever a script. Bummer, I was hoping for a cool villain escape like Usual Suspects or just a horrifying creeper like Seven.

“It’s been a while since I’ve seen a performance (Josh Hartnett) this good in something this bad!”

Oof, this hurts to hear. I may not always agree with Brad, but he always feels legit in his takes and knows how to take personal bias out of the equation when he gives his opinion. Like, he gives it a D but says he would say it could be worth a rental for Hartnett’s performance (and the first third is apparently good, it just gets more convoluted and ridiculous as it goes on). So, I might still enjoy Trap, but I highly doubt even if I do that it’ll be ranked higher than the middle section of tier rankings of Shyamalan’s films.

Ugh, I kinda don't wanna listen to him, because I still kinda wanna see this...the setup just sounds fun...but sadly he's probably right about it being bad

I finally got around to seeing this today.

I can sorta see the complaints in the third acts, cuz it kinda jumps around a lot and doesn't seem like it knows how to end. At least from what I saw....

Sadly I missed the very last part of the movie. I only made it until
he's in the house confronting his wife
...I had an emergency and had to leave the theater :(

For most of the movie though, I was pretty engaged, and I enjoyed watching it. Josh Hartnett is great, he's got that "it" factor that an actor needs, where you always want to keep your eyes on him, and I hope to see him in more. Not the best movie, but not the worst movie. Plenty watchable to me. Yeah, it's a total nepotism project with his daughter in it, but at least she's a good singer from what I can tell. It's not bad. Worth a watch I think.

Should have called it A Series of Unlikely Events.

Or he could have just made a video promoting his daughter's career becaue that what this basically is.

Holy shit that was his daughter... her acting was the worst of all and she had that fish face going on too. So her carreer is pretty much dead.

It's possible I might finish the film. The soundtrack is pleasant to listen to. She makes better music than he makes movies. Possibly the younger gen are going to like it for that and carry it forward.

There are a few things in the film that can be valuable to think about, like how superficial charm operates.

The film, however, has those contradictions that are in his movies. Like water toxic aliens going naked to a planet with concentrated water vapour in the air. Maybe could rationalize some wild theory that wasn't part of the movie.

This time the contradiction opened the finale in opposition to a character trait that was given significant presence to establish modus operendi, and I turned it off.

He’s just not a very competent film maker. His story outlines are ok but the actual dialog is always weird and jilted. The actors never quite seem to click with the material, and there’s a lot of awkward boring scenes even in the middle of what should be the climax of the film.

His daughter is just a terrible actress. And the movie truly is about 50% just a concert film for her fake pop star she’s playing (with a real album she’s singing.) She’s an Ok pop singer as far as that goes but it really gets old lol
