I want something upbeat, unpretentious, and most of all *good.* I'll listen to just about anything, I just want some suggestions.

"Unpretentious?" Good luck finding music that's 100% unpretentious :D
He asks for something upbeat and you post an album called "Let's Get Killed." LMFAO

Tre: Try...

"You Forgot It in People" by Broken Social Scene. Standouts: Almost Crimes, Looks Just Like the Sun, Pacific Theme.

"De Stijl" by The White Stripes. Back when they were good. Standouts: Little Bird, Hello Operator, Death Letter.

"The Richard D. James Album" / Aphex Twin. Standouts: Cornish Acid, Fingerbib, To Cure a Weakling Child. Note: These songs have, how should I say it, "phat beats."

Eminem

goddamit, Griese!
Alexisonfire - Get Fighted
Atreyu - The Crimson
My Chemical Romance - This Is The Best Day Ever, Headfirst for Halos, Hang 'Em High
Scatter The Ashes - White Actress

Dillinger Escape Plan
Rush
Pain of Salvation - Entropia(They're pretencious, but this album has some wicked bass lines)

Get this song: "Hermann Loves Pauline" by Super Furry Animals. If you like it, ask me for more recommendations.

And get some stuff by The Thrills, because they're upbeat and I feel like suggesting them.

He said unpretentious.

For that stuff, you need to investigate Beatle-esque pop. I won't suggest any bands, but do your own research at allmusic.com - you might find something.

The New Amsterdams - Spoils of the Spoiled
The Notwist - One With the Freaks
Camera Obscura - Happy New Year
Camera Obscura - Let Me Go Home
Badly Drawn Boy - Once Around the Block
Badly Drawn Boy - You Were Right
Badly Drawn Boy - Another Pearl

Newish stuff from my playlist now...

I'll second the Broken Social Scene recommendation, if you haven't heard them already. Upbeat tracks? Check out Almost Crimes, Stars and Sons, and KC Accidental.

well, im gonna go out on a limb and make an interesting selection here tre. I'm gonna say The Who - Quadrophenia. If you haven't heard it, I'm sure you can at least dig the bass lines :)

I've been listening to some 93-95 old skool rave mixes and it definately fits the bill for the first 2 qualities. It's not bad music at all, it's great, but the production quality is Amiga-esque...so most people don't consider it that good. :p

Spluh, the thrills aren't very good. You could probably lay that down to my hatered of the lead singer though.

I HATE YOU AND I HATE THE BAND YOU LIKE

Tre` needs to go buy Medulla.

Ick, no. My girlfriend just picked it up yesterday and at most there are PARTS of some tracks I like. I don't dislike it, but I don't really like any of it. It's unique and ambitious, but that's about it.

I don't think they're great or anything, but they're enjoyable and upbeat. I don't like that new single, however.

+1 for The Thrills from me, damn the haters :p

I'll also add Snow Patrol, both "Run" and "Spitting Games" are a good start.

If you feel like something just downright funny, get some "Goldie Lookin' Chain" - they'll not be around long as their act is fairly one dimensional, but "Guns don't kill people..." and recent songs show some great humour.

Guns don't kill people - A taste of their lyrics :)
Guns don't kill people, rappers do
I seen it in a documentary on BBC 2
Shot to death outside Hyper Value
Guns blazing like Michael Caine in Zulu
Gunners statistics are sometimes misleading
The type of criminal rap is breeding
Shot in the chest no one here stopped the bleeding
2-4 to base over, are you receiving?
Remember rap tracks in '87
scott the rock's up in hip-hop heaven
Biggie and Tupac R.I.P.
Even Jam Master Jay's in the cemetery

Whether I'm replying or not, I am actually taking the suggestions and trying them :p.

Alexisonfire has left the best impression so far. Another suggestion, anything in the vein of Weezer.

Cool. You hear anything from the Richard D. James album yet? Get the song "Corn Mouth" too. It's great.

As for Weezer... get the song Paperface. It rocks :D

Also, he sounds sort of like Grandaddy's frontman.
