Boy I'm glad I decided to go birding near the Rio Grande valley last week instead of this week. Looks like Key West is going to catch the breeze though. :(

meh, I'm not worried unless it reaches high category 2 strength.

I really really hate putting shutters up.

...

This could either be a slow grinder like Ophelia or yet another zombie hurricane. The powers that be aren't done with the US yet!

I'm so sure that The Weather Channel tries to hide their excitement for more viewers and higher ratings because another deadly storm is about to hit.

You can hear the hidden joy in their voices. It's kind of disturbing.

Well, they live for weather (and live BY it...pun intended :)) and I'm sure it excites them. :) ...but prolly not to see people dying and such.

It's probably a double-edged sword for them: they love to see the awesome power of nature, but that awesomeness is usually very deadly.

Not only is it included int he cone of uncertainty, but take a look at what I just received from my weather friend:

Early Computer Model Generated Projected Path (LIKELY INACCURATE, BUT STILL)

Lord. Edit: You have to hit FWD to see it move.
Well, at least the hurricane force stuff goes south of me.

But that thing is showing Cat 4 force winds at times. Ouch.

And is this going to be the "Q" storm? I don't even remember a time when there was a Q named storm.

EDIT: Ah, no wonder. Apparently they skip over Q.

It is strange. There are also 4 named storms in the pacific and other interesting developments in global climate over the past 2 years. Let us not jump the gun...

Remaining names for this season:

Philippe (now taken by a tropical storm)
Rita (now taken by Tropical Depression 18)
Stan
Tammy
Vince
Wilma

If this list is exhausted before the end of the season, subsequent storms would be named by Greek letters, starting with Alpha. Maybe we'll see one this season...

I used to always say I hated snow.
Now that I've seen all the hurricane damage this year...
I'll take the snow. :)

(doesn't change the fact that cold weather and snow SUCKS, though).

I think they should start naming hurricanes after rappers.

Hurricane Fitty. Hurricane Ja. Hurricane Mathers. Hurricane Dre. Hurricane Snoop.
Fo shizzle.

Bah. My birthday.

What's the furthest [farthest?] we've gotten in the named storm list?
I went looking to find out, and it seems the farthest they've ever gotten before is T.

Hurricane Philippe (now taken by a tropical storm)
Hurricane Rita (Tropical Depression 18?)
Hurricane Stan
Hurricane Tammy
Hurricane Vince
Hurricane Wilma
Hurricane Alphasnake
Hurricane Marsomega

Assuming you're not kidding about those names up to "W"

I think the only reasonable names for X, Y, and Z are "Xavier", Yvette", and "Zachary." It's in keeping with the gender alternation.

I'll have to see what the updated models say about this. There is a Canadian model that does something totally different with this storm, so who knows.

After this year, they may need to add X Y and Z names to the list.

the track is shifting more south, good news I guess
Yeah. I'm not in the cone anymore, which makes me happy. Hope it stay that way.

That said, if it tracks straight into the gulf like that without hitting land to weaken it, it could possibly turn monstrously powerful, which is not exactly the best case scenario for the gulf coast.

I always get concerned when storms take similar paths to each other, because generally a similar starting path, in the scheme of the earth, can lead to a similar end path. History does repeat itself in weather, although in an inexact manner. Thus, all in the gulf coast should watch this.

Ouch. Look at that yellow "God hates Mardi Gras" path. Not good.

At least most of the other models are still trending towards Texas. At this point, though, I'm more interested in just how strong this storm might become over where exactly it's going to strike. A few of those models have it spending several days in the gulf. Considering how strong Katrina got in just a day or two out there, this could be another real bad news kind of storm.

Well, my place of work is already taking measures against this storm (moving some of our operations to Austin). I can tell you right now that the wayt his thing is looking I'm getting the heck out of dodge. I live in Houston and it's projecting to come right up our ass. If my place of work is closed Wednesday, I'm renting a hotel up near Austin somewhere and leaving. I ain't taking no chances. Mother Nature has put the fear in me.

As for me, I'm going to lock the door to my apartment, crank up my audio system, play a little 480p Gamecube and scream "yeeeehawww" or possible "toookourjerrrrbbbb" as the inevitable tidal wave engulfs me.

Houston we have a problem...?

I would like to see New Orleans hit again, so God can really make his point clear. Mother nature my scientologist! Fear God.... its rape time

If there was a joke here I must've missed it ;)

I have a ton of stuff I need to look through to make sure I have any important papers I may need. :/

Time to clean up!

WTF? Mig! You're gonna bail and not take me to El Paso with you?! :(

We need Cadillac to break a hole through the Hurricane and tear it apart before it reaches Houston.

I'd say we could put up the Texans offensive line but well, they'd somehow allow 3 hurricanes to come through and sack Houston all at once.
