Regardless of what they run they can't make people vote or vote a certain way. They could run the perfect campaign...lose...and people would still talk down about the effort.

I know people always tell us to never blame the electorate, but fuck me, I really don't know what they were thinking. The pussy tape, the rhetoric, the complete lack of decorum, the debates (Nasty woman, wrong!) and yet people woke up on Nov. 8 and thought, "Well, he's better than the woman who's spent her life in politics."

Maybe we should run Anthony Weiner in 2020, since that appeals to the American electorate. He's just like them!

Really. Blaming Dems for the way people vote...especially after all the stuff you mentioned....is beyond wild. Clearly a good message isn't guaranteeing anything at this point. They're going to be held to an impossible standard.

I know an incredibly successful couple in Mass. that voted for Trump. One is a doctor, the other is a lawyer, and their daughter is lesbian, yet they vote straight-ticket Republican year after year. I mean sure, vote for lower taxes, but this guy? You're supposed to know better.

Plus, I don't fucking understand it, the party hates your own fucking kid. I would be furious if they were my parents.

Not surprised, I fully expect 8 years of Trump.
My cynicism has reached the point that it wouldn't even surprise me. People already let four years of him happen, and when enough of them insist that the Democratic choice isn't good enough for them yet again, we'll be stuck with him for another four.

I don't get why he's running in 2020, he won, got his revenge on Obama, and he seems to fucking hate his job.
I bet the popular vote count thing is bugging him.

Much of Trump's fundraising comes from small donations, suggesting that his grassroots base could play a bigger role than wealthy benefactors in his quest to stay in the White House for eight years.
Kinda disturbing tbh.

We have just finished a period where three presidents served eight years in office consecutively. That hasn't happened since the beginning of the 19th Century with Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe. Regardless of who was going to be elected last November, be it Donald or Hilary, I had my strong doubts that they would serve two terms in office. It just rarely happens according to history.

And years from now, historians will look back at this time period and wonder how America elected a know-nothing doofus :p History is made to be broken! Or something I can't remember the saying

And let's hope that the fucking progressives actually get off their motherfucking arses and GO VOTE!!!!

The large majority of them did though; we just need to get the non-voters out.

He will die in jail before that happens.

Now 8 years of Pence or Ryan? That's another story.

Ryan is an insufferable douche and Pence is so fucking boring. Neither of them have charm.

Besides, God forbid there's a female moderator during a debate, Pence's wife better be there on stage to ensure he doesn't assault her then and there. Men, they just can't control themselves!

The incumbent typically wins, so not a bad expectation.

Since Trump is now a ((((Globalist)))) cuck cuck cuck his nutso base is slowly fading and hopefully stays the fuck out of politics. Hopefully the Democrats can pick someone better than the Butcher of Benghazi to run - probably stupid but I think Biden would make a strong candidate; he's from the midwest and so would probably help appeal to the rust belt and he's already icnredibly popular in the easy blue states.

Obama changed the game with the never ending campaign. I believe Obama had something like 500 fund raisers while in office. This will be par for the course from now on.

you mean the guy that didn't file for re-election and therefore couldn't legally campaign or fundraise until the 2012 elections started gearing up?

Trump filed within hours of being inaugurated.

The fact is that the Democrats by all rights should walk into the Presidency, the house, and the senate with all of the fucking ammunition they have.

If they can't take the Presidency in 2020 at the very least, it would be the most incompetent campaign in civilized history. As embarrassing as HRC's loss was, this would be that times 100.

Let's see who is actually eligible to vote in 2020.

The former Prime Minister of my country, Stephen Harper, was a banal, charmless void of a cretin. He was in power for almost a full decade. Never mistake charisma for being unelectable, though the former certainly helps to ensure one won't be a one-term leader.

Oh I live in Canada (until next week ;-;) and I was lucky enough to witness that glorious Liberal sweep in 2015 to knock him out of power, but I thought the left vote being split in 2011 was what gave Harper that second term no? I don't remember ever meeting a person that actually *liked* him as a person, while I've met plenty that drool over Trubeau's charm (and other things); it'll definitely serve Trudeau well in 2019.

That Netflix moment though, *shudder*

Fair point (although "terms" is bit of a misnomer since Canada doesn't quite have those like the United States does given the ways an election can be called), though there were other factors that played into the previous elections, not the least of which being the utilization of robocalls during the 2011 election that mislead voters when it came to where they could go to vote in their appropriate riding. The left/centrist voter split was the main contribution and could potentially lead to a 2019 loss for the Liberal Party depending on how the next few years turn out for the Trudeau government.

That sounds blatantly illegal. I assume nothing happened to those responsible :/

That's just golf cart rentals. Imagine all of the taxpayer, campaign donation, and outside money he's making elsewhere.
