Trump may reverse decision on climate accord, France's Macron says: JDD

PARIS (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macron said he was hopeful that U.S. President Donald Trump would reverse his decision to pull the United States out of the Paris climate accord, according to weekly newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche (JDD) on Sunday.

"(Trump) told me that he would try to find a solution in the coming months," Macron told the paper, referring to meetings the two leaders had this week in Paris.

"We spoke in detail about the things that could make him come back to the Paris accord," he added.

Trump has said the Paris accord is soft on leading polluters like China and India, putting U.S. industry at risk.

Trump on Friday appeared to hold the door open to a change of position on the 2015 Paris climate change agreement which he pulled the United States out of earlier this year.

The accord, reached by nearly 200 countries in 2015, was meant to limit global warming to 2 degrees or less by 2100, mainly through pledges to cut carbon dioxide and other emissions from the burning of fossil fuels.

Trump has repeatedly said he would be open to a better deal for the United States.

Not holding my breath but hope he does.

Even if it'll be mistakenly hailed as a great deal victory or whatever he spins it if he comes back, the safety of the world is too important for me to get mad at his ego and spin.

No he won't. He always does this. He says something in front of you, then do the opposite of that.

You got played Macron, and for what? That cringe worthy handshake and patting you gave him.

He agrees with the last person he talked to. I'm sure Macron put the moves on him and Trump was like "yeah, sure we'll see that makes sense, I'll reconsider it", to only drop everything and forget literally everything Macron told him when he comes back state side.

This would mean that once again, Trump will say anything to look good to whomever he is in the room with. Then when out of that person's presence, continue to be a self absorbed fuck.

Yep. Trump likes to butter up people he is currently around, it's nothing new.

Though I suppose Macron brought this into light in hopes that he's forced to consider it else be a liar.

Macron won the handshake battle and now Trump must do whatever he commands.

Trump: "Macaroni says we need to come back to Accords."
GOP: "What's this?"
*hands check from fossil fuel company*
Trump: "Nevermind."

It's frankly much better for the US to be out of the Paris and the rest of the world to use our opposition as a rallying point for climate action, than for us to stay in and give Trump the opportunity to actively fuck it up from inside.

What played? He didn't do anything or give anything up.

He won't.

Donald hyped up the announcement of the withdrawal and had a Rose Garden celebration. It represents a victory for the 'America First' doctrine.

And also because Scott Pruitt is a cunt.

Played is what Trump was when he promised to set up a joint cyber defense thingy with Russia.

How did he get played? Macron invited Trump to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the american entry into WWI. He would have invited any sitting president. He's trying to sway Trump in a good direction because he knows he has nothing to lose. If he's successful then everyone wins. If he's not then at least he tried?

The ties between France and the USA are old as fuck. It's not a punk ass like Trump who's about to destroy the friendship between our two countries.

He is trying.

Yeah, not holding my breath, thank you very much. Nothing is impossible with this administration, but I highly doubt it.
