Trying to clean a Thompson drive? Is it worth it.

Just wondering how successful people have been cleaning the lens and if so how long it was until it had to be cleaned again. I do not want to buy a new Xbox or drive this close to the release of the 360. =\

Probably not worth the bother, since it is most likely not just a cleaning issuing. You can get a new drive for $20, just swap them out.

Don't bother, those Thompson drives are pieces of shit and MS should be ashamed. Swap in the Samsung like me. :(

you can swap em out for a different model drive? i did not know that.

makes more sense then getting another Thompson.

ebay.

well that explains the $20 =\ I dont think I want to spend the time or money putting in a drive that will just go bad in a year or so.

Has anyone cleaned their T-drive with any success?

It depends on the drive. Sometimes it helps, other times it doesn't. Just buy a new laser lens though. I got one for 10 bucks on ebay and it's doing fine, and it'll definitely last for a long time.

Well after 45 minutes, a can of compressed air, anti-static screen cleaner and 2 q-tips I now have a working X-BOX. =) Taking the thing apart is so freaking easy. I was happy to have all the tools needed. All the info is at this site.

I just dont know how long its going to last =P
