Trying to improve my DS collection.

StoOgE

First tragedy, then farce.
The problem of the early adopter is you get a new toy and are so starved for games you wind up buying alot of initially mediocre games, but still have fun with them because the system is new. Ive run into that problem.

My current DS lineup: Super Mario 64, Feel the Magic, Kirby, Wario Ware: Touched, Yoshi Touch and go, meteos and polarium...

and my GBA lineup: Advance Wars 2, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Yoshi's island, Phantasy Star collection, Golden Sun and Castlevania Circle of the Moon. Most of those I dont care for.

Im going on a couple of business trips over the next two weeks and need something to do while Im stuck on a plane, and the DS seems to be the way to go. I havent really touched my DS in a while (you can tell by the game collection). Im going to sell Polarium and one of the two mini-games (Wario Ware or FTM) but the rest are keepers. On the GBA side, I never play Golden Sun or Phantasy Star. So those are gone.

Games Im interested in:

Mario Kart DS (would sell the GBA one if I got it)
Castlevania DS (would sell the GBA one if I got it)
Advance Wars DS (would sell the GBA one if I got it)
Sonic
Viewtifull Joe.
Mario and Luigi Partners in time

Games I might want:
Age of Empires (not sure I would devote enough time to this game plus adance wars is sorta similar)
Pac N Roll (maybe not, I have marble blast ultra for the 360)
Pac Pix (not sure how long lasting this game would be)
Animal Crossing (Never played one, mildly interested in trying it out)
Nanostray: I like shooters

Games I have zero interest in:
Resident Evil (I hate the RE games with a passion, outside of RE4)
Nintendogs (Not at all interested)

Any other suggestions you have would be appreciated. Im also looking at picking up a couple of GBA games, mostly older SNES classics though. Perhaps a Metroid, Zelda and Mario games.

also not interested in Phoenix Wright. Unless someone makes a harvey birdman game I dont care for a lawyer simulation.

Everything else is optional

Pretty much nailed it, if you aren't interested in phoenix, just leave it off and bingo, there is +100 hours of gaming right there (If you wanted to complete advance wars 100% it would take you over 90 hours I think, I stopped regularly playing at 62ish though)

Telling people to get that is cruel. It is not on sale anymore.

Europeans can feel the love at www.dimplus.nl

I got mine from there, you have to navigate a dutch site, but thats not very hard with babelfish.

I've gotten more from Animal Crossing than Mario Kart, but that may be because I never played AC on GCN.

Even if you don't think you'll like Phoenix, try it anyway. I didn't expect it to be anything special, but it turned out to be my personal game of the year.

I also was personally disappointed by sonic (good music though).

I would suggest Phoenix Wright. :D

Here's the skinny on the games you listed.

Ones you're interested in...
Mario Kart DS: An absolute blast! If you have Wi-Fi, even better.
Castlevania DS: Fantastic game. A worthy successor to Aria.
Advance Wars DS: A lot of fun from what I hear. Challenging, too.
Sonic: A refreshing throwback to what made Sonic fun to begin with.
Viewtifull Joe: Try before you buy... This is really a hit or miss.
Mario and Luigi Partners in time: If you liked Superstar Saga, you'll like this.

Maybes...
Age of Empires: I'd say pass if you're getting Dual Strike.
Pac N Roll: Not worth the cost of admission. Worth it when it hits $10-$15.
Pac Pix: Don't know much about replay value, but it's a clever DS-centric title. It has my nod.
Animal Crossing: Pay no attention to the AC hate. This is a fun, simple game.
Nanostray: If you aren't afraid of brutal difficulty, you'll be right at home.

Don't Want at All...
Resident Evil: If you don't like RE, there's no changing your mind.
Nintendogs: Surprisingly clever and intriguing, but the devotion it requires gets old.

I noticed there are some games you didn't even list at all, which are must-owns in my opinion. Kirby Canvas Curse, Metroid Prime Pinball, Phoenix Wright, and Trauma Center.

My perfect DS list:

Meteos - Still the best thing to happen to the DS by far.
Sonic - the first "true" Sonic game to come in a loooong time. Really awesome.
Mario Kart - Would have been perfect if it had a friedns list more like LIVE. Still classic tho.
Castlevania - Probably my second favorite DS game thus far.
Viewtiful Joe - Bumpkin hit it on the head - some will hate it, some will love. I'm in the latter category.

Optional:
Yoshi T&G is a nice, fun "Mini game" - something you can play for 15 minutes at a time.

See, this pisses me off.

You make a post asking for suggestions, then you shoot the first one down because you're not interested in it.

That's why it's a suggestion. It's a great game, really.

Why am I not surprised that all the people asking for DS recommendations don't own Ouendan?

it's the language basically.

I know you are going to say it's not a barrier for this game, but where do I get it? Who will send this to europe for me?

It is difficult to get hold of. The language is a barrier as much as a Japanese version of, say DDR - unless you must know the lyrics, or can't stand the song, teh game is still a blast, and without looking like a complete dolt while playing.

First game I properly imported, and no regrets.

Strangely, though, my collection of DS games has probably 5-7 games from not-Aus/NZ. I love portable gaming.

You mean "not difficult" right? XP

Last time I checked, most game importers (ncsx.com, videogamedepot.com, yesasia.com, and those are just US sites... I'm sure there are European sites...) shipped to Europe. Some people said they got Ouendan off of ebay too.

Yes, sure, but I meant in a non-online mail way, I guess.

i did it through Lik-Sang.

Mario and Luigi : Partners In Time is an incredibly fun game, and while it doesn't use the stylus pen, it does take full effect of the dual screens. I didn't play Superstar Saga so I can't compare, but on its own it is one of my favorite DS games.

Castlevania is a shoe-in. Like I said in a similar thread yesterday, it's nearly as good as Symphony of the Night so use that as a comparison.

Actually, PiT used the stylus - when you're wiping off the map. You could have put the stylus to good use, like minigames, puzzles and special outside powers, but you made this game on the DS so that we can clean a map? What the fuck, Nintendo?

Edit: Buy Phoenix Wright.

and I declined his suggestion :lol

Im sure its a great game, but generally speaking I prefer action oriented games, and dont like paying 50 bucks for a game that reatails at 35. Games that get into that "ultra rate premium ebay price" category are a turn off for me. If I found it in a store, I would jump all over it.

My DS collection:
Super Mario 64 (If you liked the 64 mario get this)
WarioWare Touched (Wouldn't recommend if you're getting the other games listed)
Meteos (Very fun puzzle game, very good deal if you get it cheap)
Kirby: Canvas Curse (Also fun but only pick up now if you can get it budget)
Advance wars DS (Very good, worth it at full price)
Castlevania DS (Ditto)
Polarium (Piece of crap*)
Mario kart DS (Fun racer, will keep you occupied)

* This game is not a part of my collection anymore because I sold it. Yes it is that bad, Do not even bu it budget

Ouendan. There's no question here, just get it. Doesn't matter what sort of games you like, its just pure fun. Also its not difficult to get imported to Europe.

Telling people to get that is cruel. It is not on sale anymore.

There's still units out there. Gamestop and EB still have them in various locations. None of the other major retailers do. Check 'smaller" retailers and you'll find it.

Or Ebay.

Play-Asia.

the games i have played, i would rank so

good+: meteos, polarium, advance wars ds
good: metroid pinball, ridge racer
avg: castlevania, super mario ds (both also not finished), mario kart ds, wario ware touched, feel the magic/project rub (but worth mentioning for the design)
not so good: nanostray

but i can't clearly recommend any of them as a must have..

(and at the moment i am waiting for getting kirby, pac pix and viewtiful joe)
