Trying to remember an old arcade game...

When I was about 10 or 11 years old, I remember playing a game where you played as a knight (or something similar to a knight), and you went from the left side of the screen to the right (it may have been forced scrolled -- I can't remember). Unlike something like Ghosts and Goblins, the knight took up a good portion of the screen.

I remember that if something hit the knight, a piece of his armor would fall off, and you could somehow create a forcefield by moving the joystick up and down rapidly for about two seconds.

Anybody have any idea of what this game was called? My memory of it is very vague, I know, but I know I played something like this in the arcade a long time ago.

Crossed Swords? Hmm. I just looked at a screenshot, and it doesn't really look like what I remember. But I guess it's a possibility. Maybe I'll try emulating it.

Yeah, it's probably Crossed Swords, since you could do "super moves" like how you mentioned (he had a sword wave and a forcefield, if I remember correctly.) I don't remember there being armor (you could buy health though.)

probably a simple way of nailing it down:

Gladiator was a mid 1980s Taito game (1986) whereas Crossed Swords was an early 1990s NeoGeo game (1991)

Yeah...this is the game where you move your shield up and down quickly to produce a temporary magic shield. The dudes looked kinda scary when they lost their armor...
