I am neither clueless nor very young. I'm pretty serious that I hate capitalism. I have a lot of good reasons why. But apparently, because I've shoplifted a few times before and don't think it's a big deal I'm fucking scum of the earth, lowest of the low filth idiot crazy person.
Stealing is pretty shitty. If you hate capitalism just don't support those stores, simple. Don't see why you should get this stuff for free when you don't deserve it.

Just now learning about this. The kind of twisted logic people will induce to justify their desire to steal is just, wow. All i can say.

The good news is there is a growing backlash against the shoplifting community on tumblr. If you read through the shoplifting tag you will see.

My sister was a shoplifter for a long time. We'd go to the mall and when we left she'd show me the things she would steal. 90% of the time it was clothing.

She never got caught. But thankfully did grow out of it. Or maybe she's just hiding it much better now.

Unless you needed to steal for survival, it's a shitty thing to do and you're scum to me.

You're not an awful, scum of the earth because you stole a few times.

You are, however, an unrepentant asshole that hides behind some bogus "fuck capitalism" sthick, when you're really just hurting the ability of retail workers to do their jobs and go through their lives so that you can have a free whatever.

It's really not that hard to understand, but for some people it is, I guess. You can convince yourself of anything, it seems.

lololololol,

Honestly, if you keep it to larger places like Walmart, I don't think it's morally the worst thing ever. Like, anything that involves harassing or assaulting other individuals is significantly worse to me, but this is far from any kind of behavior that's worth encouraging or taking pride in. Also, lol at the fuck capitalism image, hoping that's a joke.

Honestly, I think it's unhealthy to actively engage in risky behavior like that if it can be avoided, and it does seem like most of the people doing it only do so because they get a thrill of the activity, not because of any actual need for the items lifted. Even without any of the moral implications of stealing, it's an activity that focuses on procuring and consuming things just for the sake of having them. It's basically the things I find unhealthy about consumerism combined with an even more impulsive and selfish behavior.

I'm assuming this is a pretty small community of people, though. Also, you know at least some of them aren't serious, so I don't think this is some kind of epidemic.

This. 100% this. If you don't like it your protest is to not engage with them. You going and stealing is not protesting them, it's you stealing, end of discussion. You can try to justify it how you want, but it's stealing. You hate Walmart, don't go there. You stealing isn't going to bring them down financially, it's just you getting something for free.

I just like it when security guards size up to anyone smaller than them, but don't say shit to anyone who acts suspicious but is bigger than them.

Also can you be prosecuted for a crime with no evidence?

Like, say someone trolls and posts a picture of some random goods on the internet and said they stole it. Can the cops prosecute them just on their words alone, no paper trail or evidence even if they said they where just trolling when they "got caught"?

They couldn't charge based on that alone, but they could begin an investigation.

wow, reddit sure is full of crazy people.

whew boy, those reddit users.

this kinda shit is why I can never take anyone who says they "go on reddit" seriously.

reddit, man

Reddit has some amazing subreddits for medicine and science. Your generalizations are unfounded.

That #Resist Capitalism iPhone is uproarious. At least she could settle for a less well-known brand. I'm sure that there are more socially conscious phone makers than Apple.

'Cause like, I ain't gonna fault someone for "resisting capitalism" while owning a smart phone, because smart phones are pretty much essential for people in this day and age. It's practically like owning a microwave or a refrigerator (obviously not to that great an extent). But an Apple phone? Nah, you can do better than that.

And this is why I don't get these sorts of threads that go "man Tumblr is a cesspool." No doubt a lot of it is, but I don't think it's any better or worse than the rest of the internet, just like you don't have to go far to find some pretty repulsive subreddits. Hell you could make the same argument about some of the gaming and off-topic communities here.

As for the topic, this has been something that's been A Thing that's gotten coverage for years now: http://www.dailydot.com/lifestyle/tumblr-shoplifting-subculture/

Although I think the most interesting part of it is the magic wand of "this is a role-play" that some bloggers use as if that will protect them from prosecution, the same way that people upload whole movies to Youtube and think "I did not make this, no copyright infringement intended" it's somehow fine.

I think the post you're responding to is being sarcastic, heh. At least, I hope it is.

To be honest crazies on Tumblr (or Reddit) don't surprise me anymore, but if you're a user of those sites you have the choice of what content you follow and what you don't. Shoplifting will not be a part of your Tumblr experience if you don't want it to be, so mostly I just laugh at this sort of stuff. (Disclaimer: I don't use Tumblr, but I have a Reddit account for subscribing to subreddits).

You're not sticking it to the man by stealing some clothes and markers from a store. All you're doing is hurting employees making minimum wage who take the fallout from such theft.

I mean I don't think there's anything wrong with shoplifting (I do it occasionally) cause capitalism is terrible, but it is not an effective means of protest.
Dude get over yourself.

General rule of life: Don't do something to someone that you wouldn't want to happen to you.

General rule of life 2: The Girlfriend/Boyfriend Test. Before posting something like "stealing is ok" think about whether or not you'd say that to your gf/bf. If you don't feel confident enough to share this idea with the person you care about most, maybe you should reevaluate what you want to say.

For some reason I read the title as:

"Trump has a shoplifting fandom"

I would have liked that topic. But still, this was interesting to read.

I have a feeling this thread's fate is written in the stars.

I've been lurking this thread but I have to respond to this as I once espoused this same belief when I knew or understood little about Reddit.

Each subreddit is a self contained community onto itself. Much like the internet, it is full of different forums catering to just about every topic imaginable (for better or worse). Most people from your more 'regular' subreddits are not even aware of/don't interact with/or are just as disgusted with some of the ones center around more incendiary/bigoted topics.

Saying this is much like saying, whew boy, those internet users. I mean, what does that even mean? Painting with such a broad brush like that. You have, in this very thread, someone advocating for shoplifting. I wouldn't condemn this entire forum from this one interaction or anything similar that I have witnessed over the years.

Rule 1: I would never own Wal-Mart, not applicable.

Rule 2: I do feel confident sharing this idea with my girlfriend.
