Ok... fuck GAF hype. I've watched upto ep 6 of this series now, and I'm about ready to throw in the towel.
Lets start of with the obvious... the animation is fucking suck. And the show is only from 1999... the standard of animation in Gundam Wing was better if I recall...
for example in this show; you've got a couple of girls in a plane trying to rescue a dangling lauren from an airship; they say, we've got to turn around, we've gone too far past him!
cuts from that directly to after the turn around, where they're commenting on how great a turning angle the plane has.
Next up, you've got the initial beams of fire from when the white doll gets up... and the initial beams of fire in general.
They fucking carve up the landscape, and rip up stuff in a huge cone shaped radius... now I'm not sure how powerful these suits are meant to be... maybe they are that powerful, but it seems pretty damn ridiculous and a generally inconsistent over exaggeration of power to me.
That's followed by the gun melting down; they don't actually show it melting down in much detail... maybe a few frames of animation of the gun breaking up as a black silhouette while a bunch of other stuff happens on screen. The characters/show doesn't acknowledge this for a while either... they just come to it later and say, the gun's been damaged. At that point, you're not even sure anymore; it looks like a funky stylized weapon, with the black and all... the character is still gripping it like a gun, and when he does finally acknowledge that it is shit in the next episode, he acts like he's been holding it the whole time in order to throw the damn thing.
That's fucking shit house directing. And the rest of the directing doesn't seem any better. That was a lot of nit picking... but it's these inconsistencies in the show that's starting to grate at me very heavily already.
Next up... we have the very confusing situation where Lauren reports back to the moon people as if nothing is wrong... then a few scenes later, shows him piloting the gundam against one of the people he was so cordial with before... WITH THE FUCKING COCKPIT UP NO LESS... the animation even makes a point to close the cockpit AFTER they've had a visual sighting of each other...
yet no recognition is given to the fact of WTF is going on.
Then you've got lauren himself; wanting to not wage war on earth... but not realising that he and the white doll are the only reason that earth can even think about waging war; instead of just handing over some of the land to the moon people and been fucking peaceful neighbours.
They probably change later in the series... but at this point in time; Moon People want to resettle back on earth on unused area of earth... earth people, bitching and whining about what the fuck I don't know.
The only minor saving grace is that the music at the end is kinda nice...
I don't know about you guys... but I think good anime is a bit more consistent... a bit less about making you want to break stuff and saying wtf.
As for GSD, for someone that hasn't seen Gundam Seed before, it's actually working out as a pretty decent anime... sure it's filled with teen angst and repetitive plot sequences... but at least it doesn't make you think to yourself... what the hell is happening...
