Actually I'm surprised Japan doesn't understand from their own perspective. Super Sentai was at risk of cancellation, then Zyuranger was released to huge acclaim in Japan, ratings boosted and saved the series.

For as much shit I give Turbo, I must admit I was very invested in The Phantom Ranger arc, even if the characters potential was never truly met.

I googled that because I kept seeing that repeated and the blog I read said your right.
Sentai was never in danger according to producers and the actors, but Jetman defiantly brought the ratings back up, not carmanger or whatever turbo was called

Back in the day there were a lot of bullshit myths perpetrated in Western communities about what did what in Japan and this sorta continues to this day, but Zyuranger being unsuccessful is some ass whack I'll tell you that.
Even if we just look at what Japanese wikipedia has to say about it, it was a huge hit with children, and while it didn't have a whole lot of fan appeal, it coined a good number of trends that would become the norm for the franchise for years to come.

It varies from season to season, but on the whole, I'd say Sentai has a better hit to miss ratio than PR. If you're looking for something to start on, something like GoGoV, Abaranger, or the current Kyuranger is a good starting point.

Much like Power Rangers, the Sentai series is hit and miss, depending on your preferences.
While Sentai goes more serious at times, Sentai is known to be more goofier than Power Rangers at times as well.

Tamers was my favorite season even as a kid. I always thought the concept of Digimon in our world and it's effect fascinated me. Because Tamers is legit about as realistic scenario would be in real world terms IMO
That and the Digi Modify was a more involving feature compared to the other two seasons.

Digi-Modify was such a fascinating/great addition to that particular season. Really helped make it stand out from its previous two predecessors.
Plus Tamers was also extremely dark, and there were several outright disturbing moments. Not to mention the fantastic climax. Also all of the main characters were extremely well-developed, which is always good.
