Twitch Plays Pokemon Thread 3: Return of Red... Aussies win again!

For what its worth, Togepi evolves by happiness and would be ready to evolve in 51,200 steps from hatching*. So if the mob goes back to Route 29 for some reason it'll be ready in a couple of hours.

* +1 happiness for every 512 steps, hatched Pokemon start at 120

Doesn't make the pokemon any better, we must cast it whence it came.
AKA PC trench, the deepest point in Johto with a depth of 95% chance of losing a pokemon

Did it take this long to progress in Red Version?

I didn't start watching until after Mt. Moon.

Well it took around 9 hours for the first badge then, and about 8 hours for the first badge here. And I think they didn't beat Misty until well into the second day. We definitely have the ability to go and beat up on Bugsy now or fairly soon, we just have to get to Azaela...which is proving to be rather difficult. Definitely possible to beat him and the rival and enter Ilex Forest before the end of the day though.

It took them 16.5 consecutive days to beat the game. That's 396 hours. In 9 hours of playing Pokemon Platinum--a more complex game--I am at 3 badges, and all my pokemon are mid 20's or higher. I imagine at this pace with some grinding and exploration I could beat the game in 35 or so hours. So, I imagine with a more complex Pokemon Crystal, it will take them quite a bit longer to progress than it did in Pokemon Red.

Probably because people are trying to force it as the next Helix and because it poses a Fly risk when it levels up.

It's sounding a lot more like forcing the next flareon right now... I guess I am not watching the chat that closely and don't go to reddit tho.

What do these styles even do?

What styles? Set vs switch? It's different upon KO of a pokemon.

Switch: "Opposing Dudebro Chad is about to send out a Machamp. Do you want to change pokemon?" and then you have the chance for a free switch.

Set: The Machamp just flies out. You have to spend your turn switching if you want to change pokemon. This is how it always is in multiplayer.

Have we ever been this bad at navigating? Usually we can at least go in the direction we need to go.

It's about as bad as when we were stuck in Pallet Town for so long by the end. I think it's also that a lot of people don't really remember where to go.

We came from the east. There's nothing to the north. We went west, dead end. We went south, there was a path. I wonder where we're supposed to go, hmm...
