Twitch Plays Pokemon Thread 3: Return of Red... Aussies win again!

I'm back.
What happened in the last 2 days
And what the fuck is up with this weird new system. How does it work, etc.

According to the creator it takes the top 20 voted commands then picks one by random.

Which seems a bit ... stupid. It's just a random number generator playing Pokemon as the 20 commands covers basically everything.

It would be weighted by people's choice so calling it completely random would be a stretch.

Not to mention lag makes for good times.

I'm a bit out of the loop. Why does the stream keep saying that Reddit killed it?

Because they refuse to get rid of Gator and use Democracy every time things get even a little difficult. A lot of the fun in gen 1 came from the chaos and randomness. Would we have ever developed the Helix lore if we just used democracy to breeze through everything? Would we have had the awesomely tense Bird Jesus vs Giovanni fight if we just one shot everyone in our way?

Sometimes I wish the trolls would win and we could have some chaos in this stream again. Unless the streamer takes out Democracy mode entirely in gen 3 then I'm not even going to bother with it. At this point it's just watching a normal playthrough of a Pokemon game.

Oh no I get it. Basically it takes 20 commands, and then picks one of those 20 commands at random. So if 10 people choose "A" then you have a 50/50 chance that "A" is chosen.

I mean....
it's decent, I guess weighted lottery is cool but does this mean if we had an Erika situation with 99% A one down could be in 2nd and screw everything?

Definitely conflicted on this one

EDIT: Holy shit exp. share on dratini. We might get a dragonite by the end of this

While those factors may work for you, putting in perma-anarchy or docking Gator has absolutely nothing to do with the decline in popularity. The novelty is gone, the "experiment" was proven to be possible, the streamer didn't let things cool off quickly enough, and the nostalgia factor won't be nearly as strong as we progress further and further. Gen 3 could be all anarchy and its view count still won't be nearly as high as the first stream (especially when considering that the games became more idiot-proof as the series went on).

This is all true.

The same was true with the old anarchy. Think about how many times just a single down screwed folks up on the ledge.

I think the idea here is to make it like anarchy, but with less chance of a spoiler effect?

I would totally hop back on to watch them try to use Dive, especially if democracy wasn't an option.

Looks like the streamer cut the threshold to 10 votes instead of 20 to speed things up?

How is Shuckle nowadays? He's a Pokémon I've always been interested in but never really used.

He always got passed over for Skarmory. But he and Durant seemed like interesting walls, and I'm curious if they're worth using.

Katie replaced Wrap with Dragon Rage. Good trade!

Are there any good TMs for Espeon on the horizon? We got him up to a good level, but his moveset sucks because we didn't teach him Psybeam.

Shuckle is good for some basic utility like setting hazards/spreading status but he also has some wacky stuff you can do with him due to his stat distribution.

My favourite being:

Shuckle@Leftovers
Impish/Gluttony
252HP/252Def/4SpDef
-Acupressure
-Rock Slide
-Rest
-Power Trick

Mash Acupressure and rest in between, once you have +6 attack and defence changing them doesn't make you frail and with +6 evasion it wouldn't matter anyway.

Reminds me of hackmons and balanced hackmons
Shuckle stalling in those tiers is a sight to see

Really? I assumed from his type and name he had good defense.

Stat
HP: 58
Attack: 109
Defense: 112
Sp.Atk: 48
Sp.Def: 48
Speed: 109

Here are its base stats
Take into account its ability, hustle

In battle
Hustle increases the user's Attack stat by 50%, but lowers the accuracy of the user's physical moves by 20%. Special moves and status moves are unaffected by Hustle.

ad the fact that it mainly has a more offensive movepool, without many support options. n top of it all, its ridiculously weak when it comes to special defense and its hp holds back its awesome defense

We are close to finish this, so a Twitch Play Pokémon Emerald can be a thing or is too hard to put the hack in a GBA game?

Haven't really been following this for a while, but just popped in. I like the new input system, it's what a lot of people have wanted since the beginning. Good party also. And this game is probably the best looking game on the GBC, and I think my favorite Pokemon game visually. Great music too.

My Platinum Nuzlocke has so far been a disaster. I lost F-22 (Staravia) and Trusty (Ponyta) to Jupiter's Skuntank and its fucking crits, and I had to rebuild my team from scraps. I also was lucky enough to catch a Jolly Gible. Dragon Rage is a nuke at this level. Current team is Fionion (Meditite), M. Freeman (Prinplup), Lucky (Bronzor), and Eva 01 (Gible). Meditite sucks right now and Bronzor isn't great for in-game.

I can only imagine how bad a Nuzlocke run of Twitch Plays Pokemon would go.

Would never happen. No chance

Although people said that before, and look what happened. In fact, just because much of the Kantp popularity was for the "will the do it" mindset, this could bring it back

Technically, anarchy was always a weighted lottery, in that the most common input always had the best chance of being 'read' by the game ( as only very very few inputs actually counts ) or else we would never have made it anywhere. This new system simply makes anarchy seem less raw and intensive. I imagine there will still be a lot of fumbling about, simply because of latency, which was always an issue even in democracy.

New voting system at least makes evolution easier while not forcing us to use democracy for it.

I dreamed a dream of failed Nuzlockes... Of course, I don't think Twitch would even manage to deposit and release fainted Pokemon correctly.
