Two Great Flavors...

That Taste Great Together!

I'm talking about the GB Micro and Final Fantasy I&II: Dawn of Souls!

YEAH!!

I stopped playing DoS I when I realized, after my second play-through of the new Earth dungeon (the first of four increasingly complicated new dungeons), that it would be almost impossible to redo all of these new dungeons enough to get all of the loot and fight all of the new bosses. That, and only about 1/4 through the game, I already had more money than I'd ever need, and had stacked up to level 39 (before evolving my classes!)

Well, I plugged in FF DoS into the Micro, to see how the game would look and how the text would display on the screen. Ran through that first of four new dungeons for a third time (did it twice before back when I was still playing it), and got hooked again. Awesome stuff. Even if it is pathetically easy.

And yes. FF4 will rock. Hard.

I can't wait to play FF4 on my Micro. Hopefully we get that faceplate to complete it.

Currently, I am going through Metroid Fusion again on my Micro. It just plays so damn well on the system, and it looks grogeous. I couldn't resist. I've already played DoS extensively and I don't feel like going through it again but I do think that I will play through both Golden Suns again. On my Micro of course.

"Gameboy Micro and Final Fantasy IV will taste even better.

PS3and FF7 RMX will taste even better."

arrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh SHUT THE FUCK UP FOR FUCK SAKE JUST FUCK OFF.
Just one fucking thread with out fucking mentioning the fucking PS3.

yes they go hand in hand. Square and Nintendo love the money.

Except the first rehash was on a home console, and the second one was on a portable .0009% of the gaming populaiton owned.

As a portable final fantasy, it's practically new to the other 99% of the people who might be interested in the games.

You are overreacting.

This is a thread mainly about a FF title. It's pretty hard to find a new FF title on a non-Sony console, you know.

At least I didn't mention MGS4, right?

Would you kill yourself if FF 7 Remix shows up on Xbox360 instead?

Nope, did I mention it anywhere?

I want a FF7-2 or FF7 remix, no matter the hardware (but not on handhelds, please), however there is a pretty fat chance it will end up on a Sony console.

That's better?

Anyway it wasn't my intention to derail this discussion this far, it's only that I've finished all main FF games and I'm hurting for more. Especially FF7 or FF8.

Is there a way to forget one of the learned spells in FF1, such that I can learn a different spell instead?

The WonderSwan is really a weird system. The Crystal one feels pretty awkward in my hands, although its battery life is commendable. Crappy screen, though.

You guys talk about FF1, FF2 and FF4 but not FF3. Was the game bad or is it not being released or?

A polygon remake is coming to DS, but this is a micro thread.

It's also a FFI&II thread. Now someone please answer my question.

Which was the first rehash you are talking about? MSX? FF1+2 Famicom cart? Because the Wonderswan Color version came out before the PSX one.

Meji, yeah you can forget spells. Just go to Magic, then choose the option next to 'use' up at the top. Confirm that you want to forget it, and the spell is gone. If you want it again, you gotta go buy it at the store again.

One of the rarest monsters to find in the game is in that new Earth Cave place, the Abyss Worm. AFAIK they are only findable on that 'open desert maze' floor of that cave, and they are really tough, so watch out.

Thanks thanks.

Is there any benefit to Class Changing as early as possible in FF1?

I just realized that my guys are level 40 and still in their first forms. Does that mean that I've just robbed them of a ton of stat increases going forward?

Depends on your party. In the other versions of the game, Knights and Ninja can start getting spell charges at level 15, so the later in those you class changed could be a detriment to their max MP. If you have either of those character types in your party, they may still get less max MP from being level 40 when you class changed, but it probably won't matter much.

I don't know if some stats were altered in that version or not, like in the earlier versions a Monk gains more magic defense than a Super Monk, so for that character it was actually better to class change later or not at all. HP, Hit%, and spellcaster MP shouldn't matter as they should gain a constant rate (HP is random every level in the remakes, IIRC).

Yeah, you would be surprised how great the screen looks. Text is surprisingly easy to read on the screen. Hell, I had no trouble reading the smallest map text in Metroid Fusion. The screen is amazingly sharp and clear.

Bebpo said:
How do you read the text in an rpg on that screen? >_<

It's really not illegible at all. I think it's a psychological thing if you haven't seen the micro. I mean, it's kinda like reading the text on an iPod nano (except a bt wider).

Thanks. I think I'll be needing to start over then. :/

What's your party? You should be fine, Knights and Ninja aren't very well-tuned for spellcasting anyway (and there's plenty of new items that cast spells that are most likely better than what they can cast anyway).

Looking at my file where I found all the monsters in 1 go, here's what my party's stats were at the end:

I was probably around the same level at class change (I think I beat all the FF3 badguys in the new Earth Cave before doing so):

Knight
Lv99
999HP/651MP
Power: 86
Speed: 56
Int: 31
Stamina: 50
Luck: 43
Attack Power: 98
Hit%: 255
Def. Power: 67
Evade: 169

Ninja
Lv99
999HP/769MP
Power: 46
Speed: 62
Int: 33
Stamina: 39
Luck: 71
Attack Power: 123
Hit%: 255
Def. Power: 57
Evade: 200

Red Wizard
Lv99
999HP/999MP
Power: 46
Speed: 46
Int: 55
Stamina: 54
Luck: 38
Attack Power: 71
Hit%: 255
Def. Power: 52
Evade: 173

White Wizard
Lv99
999HP/999MP
Power: 37
Speed: 47
Int: 68
Stamina: 40
Luck: 48
Attack Power: 74
Hit%: 255
Def. Power: 47
Evade: 128

I doubt you'd need to start over. I almost never used many spells after awhile; and the spells that I did tend to use didn't matter for Intelligence (Haste/Curaga); items take their place.

Warrior, Thief, White Mage, Black Mage.

The classic group.

Hmmm - Well, I've beaten the Lich and lit that crystal, and have the ship, obviously. Am I far enough along to skip ahead and do the class change quest right away? I just barely remember the game, from my youth.

You still have to wait until you get the Airship to do the class change; you could get the canoe then go and get the Rat Tail with that and the regular ship, or just go through the Ice Cave and get what you need. Due to Intelligence making spellcasting items stronger, if you go through the Castle of Trials (or whatever) and get the Gauntlet and Heal Staff now, just have your mages use those items and the Ice Cave will be cake for you to go and get class changed soon after (just skip the Volcano until after the airship).

You really probably won't use neither your Knight nor Ninja for much spellcasting; a Mage using a Heal Staff in that game heals like 50+HP per use.

If you don't know where to get the canoe, go to Crescent Lake (lower-right part of map north of that small desert), then sail your ship to the north part of the world where the little 'you are here' thingy on the map is:
ordeals1.png

then park your ship next to the river there and walk off using the canoe to get to the Castle of Trials place.

I get the Canoe from Crescent Lake, right? Considering that I have so my Mythril Equipment on my Warrior, I must have been there already, and I probably have the Canoe already.

I'm getting a little sick of all the constant game boy micro circle jerk threads.

At least warn me in your fucking thread titles.

It looks fantastic but it's too small for my eyes ^^;

I thought the same until I tried it. It's such a beautiful little rip-off. It makes the already good gba library absolutely crack like because of the screen and portability.

I can feel your pain even though I love my Micro. It would help things out a lot if the micro got its own appreciation thread. I had suggested renaming this one.

or we can rename Drinky's Gay for Micro thread.

Gain rates, for both MP & HP, are randomized... Sometimes you'll get 20~ MP, other times you'll get lucky and get a whopping 1. Thanks, Square Enix, that's very helpful.

There's a map in FFI? I can't believe I didn't know about his. How do you open it? Is it the same for FFII?
Yeah, you just hold Select and press B (or was it vice versa? my memory sucks...). Apparently you never spoke to Matoya's broomsticks, as they're the ones that tell you (albeit in backwards speak). :P

And yes, there's a map feature in Final Fantasy II, as well; even via the same controls, I believe.

That was a good post... but have you seen MGS4?

Corrections from Ms. Scarlet:

I did have it backwards, as you need to hold B and press Select. Sorry about that.

And for the map ability in Final Fantasy II, you need to have Scott's Ring to use it, which you get when you first head to Fynn in the storyline.

I'm bad with details... :\

EDIT: Also worth mentioning that all of the versions of these games (save maybe the mobile releases) have had the map feature in them, so I think the lesson here is "Always talk to broomsticks."
