This is on the local news. Happened about a couple of miles from my apartment on my street. Old man flipped his lid. What a crazy story.
Family members are in shock after a murder suicide in Fresno Thursday night. Two men are dead following a fight between neighbors over a dog.
Franko's In Full Bloom flower shop in northwest Fresno is closed. It comes as after the death of the owner, 59-year-old Franko Cardoza. Police says he was shot by 74-year-old Dan Anderson.
Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer says, "This situation has left two widows behind. Two widows live next to each other."
Dyer says for years Cardoza and Anderson argued about theirs dogs. On Thursday night that argument escalated. Police says it happened after Anderson's dog Buddy walked into the Cardoza's back yard.
Investigators say Anderson saw Cardoza kick the dog and that's when police say Anderson started banging on their front door with a gun.
Cardoza's wife called 9-1-1 and the entire thing was caught on tape.
Dyer says, "She was extremely hysterical while she was on the phone the call to 9-1-1 dispatch. A few moments later she yelled, he just shot my husband!"
Police say Anderson fired at least 8 shots. Cardoza was hit seven times and the last three bullets hit him in the back of the head.
Chuck Weaver says, "This doesn't happen. This is like the old west. I'm shocked."
Chuck weaver has known Cardoza for 15 years. He says he was great guy and a beautiful florist. "He and his wife are wonderful people and it's a total shock. That this was to happen and the reason it happened."
No one may ever know why Anderson open fire. Police say he shot himself in the parking lot of the Macaroni Grill when officers approached his car. Before he took his life, police say Anderson left a two messages for his wife saying he was sorry and he loved her.
