Two things killed Ridge Racer 6 sales

The only thing RR6 lacks is live support in comparison to PGR3. PGR3 is a great game but RR6 is an extremely fun game. PGR3 has the best live support I have seen yet but that is no reason for RR6 to not even make the top 10 in sales in the US. Can't wait to see RR6 as the #1 Jap launch title.

what about the complete lack of advertisement and the backlash from the mention of having pay download content available at launch?

or maybe they just wanted it to fail like the conspiracy theorists say...

Yeah they were probably too busy looking at pics of FFXII and masturbating to play the game, you've got it all figured out champ.

Or maybe all the reviewers were just faggots. Simply faggots.

Also Namco seemed to have messed up on their Downloadable trailers, as they run at 30fps and the movies simply make the game look rather pale, when in reality it's extremely sleek and sexy. Maybe they can't do 60fps videos, or maybe they thought it would be too large of a download for users.

They've added more movies, perhaps an attempt to help boost sales, but it's just not sexy enough.

I really think they should offer a demo that is playable over Live. People will see it for what it is. Oh, and they should put one of the nicer looking tracks and slightly higher class cars.

Despite the reviews, I think a demo could get some attention from gamers. Perhaps I'm over-estimating the importance of trailers and demos available on MarketPlace, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who downloaded every single demo available and gave them all a decent shot.

It is, its sold 24k units in Japan. That's with a goal of 500k for Japan alone.

Wow. That's a tie ratio of 1 game sold for every 2 360's? That's pretty good! If only it was like that here! :)

Or maybe its cause the game isnt very good?

The game is excellent.

Nothing to do with PGR3 looking extremely hot and folks wanting something that looks graphically mindblowing to show of their new hi-def gamebox.

I'm sure once the dust settles RR6 will sell in numbers. Maybe a sleeper hit.

I dunno the game is ok.. great tracks, great cars, looks amazing, runs at 60fps ...

...but then its got that anoying ass anouncer, for some odd ass reason it feals slower than it should ( yeah im talking the best class cars using triple boosts ..its not slow...just seems slower than it should ), all the differant courses go to waste because the drifting makes you feal like the whole thing might as well be strait ( i didnt have this fealing on the PSP or even my DS )....

its a good game sure, and im sure big RR fans will like it more than i did...but as a general racing fan, i found it lacking, and not as top notch as it looked like it was gonna be.

but maybe im just a faggot as per what the OP said :P

How many copies did Ridge Racer PSP sell in the US?

LOL. Something like 8 or 9 thousand.

edit: Whoops, sorry. Thought you meant for the Xboxen360.

I wasn't gay until I reviewed RR6. I mean, as I typed up the final impressions, and gave it the score, I suddenly felt a dick in my ass. It felt right. And so did the score.

Ridge Racer felt outdated when it was conceived some 8 years ago. Maybe people are starting to realize that now.

Maybe the Ridge Racer fans are waiting for the PS3 Ridge Racer game. ;)

Japan seems to love it, if the 360 sold like the PS2 in Japan at launch then many many copies of RR6 would have been sold, but that is just a pipe dream.

Does anyone know how many copies of RR5 sold on the PS2? :)

no no no, you've got it all wrong, here's two things that killed RR6 sales:

1) XBox

2) 360

there you go, now your thread's unbroken

Well there is another thread that those of us who actually llike this game have posted in. I'm just curious, exactly how far did you get into the game? I guarantee you things speed up and get way more intense and competitive when you get to Class 3 racing. Also you can turn the annoying anoucer off, or wait until later when you unlock some 'other' announcers voices. Like I said in the other thread I HATE the Ridge Racer franchise but I do enjoy this game. I've just jumped off a good 3 hour session playing online and unlocking stuff. Again, like I said in the other thread this game reminds me of a Daytona/Outrun hybrib with lots of Namco branding. I haven't a clue why it's getting average reviews, the game is fun as hell to play, and the online racers are competitive as hell thanks to the influx of Japanese gamers. But hey, to each his own.

Mods, you are going to ban this guy right? Was this childish commentary even necessary?!

O.K. I'm only being quaisi-facetious............

Hmmmm, let's see.....

-it's cheap to produce, as it's an upgraded version or the psp game, not built from the ground up.

-advertising was completely free(there was none, apparently)

-they most likely got a money hat from microsoft, probably nearly paying for all development costs.

to wrap things up: they "expect" 500k sales from a game that probably cost them little to nothing to make, that's an update to a game a ton of people already own, on a system that only shipped 150k units for it's launch and only sold about 500k systems last gen, with no advertising.

It's pretty obvious what's going on here with Namco japan.

PGR3's live isn't that incredible. I'd go as far as to say it's a regression in quite a few areas compared to PGR2 (can't go back to lobby during race for example).

the xbox brand is pretty much an isolationist console

Japense hate it
American buyers diss the japanese games

It is weird

I felt the same way, to an extent (that is, Gotham TV aside). I haven't really delved into the online play yet, but it seemed to me like they just gave you a bunch of optimatch settings and called it an online mode.

The correct answer is NFS:MW. Superior in every way by most accounts, and infinitely more popular brand.
To me, RR6 is superior in every way.

DOA and Ninja Gaiden both sold quite well. And these were really the only 2 really high profile games from a big name company developed in Japan exclusively for Xbox.
Unless you count Breakdown as a high profile game...

Well with so many (arcadey) racers out for the 360, they were bound to cannibalize each others sales. PGR3 and maybe NFS:MW are the reasons why RR is doing so badly, its highly unlikely most people will buy 2 racers at launch and ... well we know which racer had the most hype at launch. (it wasn't RR).

I agree.

1) PGR3. High profile, high quality competition with better distribution never helps.
2) isamu. He scares me.

i dunno -- i think xbots are deliberately killing franchises i love. panzer, jsr, and now ridge. :x

no. it shares no content with the psp version. the style of the menus and such is similar, but that's the extent of it.

High profile exclusives from big publishers should sell on any console. DoA would've sold more worldwide on PS2...Ninja Gaiden is debatable. Certainly they did well on Xbox, though.

It's the bombing of niche titles, mid-range franchises like Ridge, Panzer and Dino Crisis, and ports of big titles like MGS that are keeping Japanese publishers away.

I'm not so sure DOA3 would have sold more on PS2. There was (and still is) ZERO competition for a good exclusive fighter on Xbox systems. On PS2 DOA would have to compete with both Tekken and VF.

You're the first one i've heard say that, but I wouldn't know as I have yet to play either.

The problem with Ridge Racer 6 poor sales is that in Japan the saga is the most popular Namco saga in Japan and after this failure I doubt that we will see things like a Tekken, Tales of, Ace Combat... and others.

Launching at the same time as PGR3 and Need For Speed killed sales, it should have been held back until the new year like in Europe.

First of all RR isnt that big anyway. The other thing is MS have failed to attract anyone other than the original xbox users who dont buy these games anyway. Makes it a pointless exclusive.

.

Japanese servers dominate US servers online. That's not conclusive evidence to say it sold better in Japan than in the US, but Japanese players sure are playing it a lot more :)

It's a fun game that seems a lot like busywork sometimes, but I loved the PSP RR so naturally I felt right at home with RR6.

It's going to put up pretty respectable numbers worldwide, imo, by next holiday season. It's a popular franchise and a launch title, so it'll be on shelves for quite some time.

Well here's the thing, EVERYBODY who has played the game for more than 1 hour absolutely loves it and sings the game's praises. The game was almost universally panned by reviewers. Conclusion: Reviewers didn't play the game for more than an hour.

You know, with Xbox Live and the achievements and everything, reviewers should be putting their gamercards along side their review so that everybody reading the review can see just how far they got into the game.
