Shots were fired on the west front of the U.S. Capitol building Saturday afternoon, Capitol police spokeswoman Kimberly Schneider said

The suspected shooter was "neutralized" but the building was locked down as a precautionary measure, Schneider said.

No one will be allowed to enter or exit the Capitol building or the Capitol Visitors Center during the lockdown.

U.S. Capitol Police officers also are investigating a suspicious package on the lower west terrace of the Capitol, Schneider said.

Several streets in the area have been closed.

I don't like euphemisms, or euphemistic language. And American English is loaded with euphemisms. Cause Americans have a lot of trouble dealing with reality. Americans have trouble facing the truth, so they invent the kind of a soft language to protest themselves from it, and it gets worse with every generation.

I believe they say that because the suspect is immobile and not necessary dead during a siege. But ofcourse when you know the outcome they should've stated dead. It's not really all that weird to use formal language.
